Sifter
Connect With People Nearby
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
What if the location you're in had its own chat — only the people actually there? Sifter turns any place into a live conversation. If you are there, you're in.
Sifter is a location-based group chat app where users create and join conversation rooms tied to real-world locations.
Every chat room is created by a registered user with a name, description, and geographic boundary. Only people physically within that boundary can see and join the room. There is no random matching, no one-to-one pairing, and no anonymous strangers — every user has a verified account and visible username.
HOW IT WORKS
• Registered users create named chat rooms at specific locations with a set range
• Other verified users within that geographic area can browse rooms and choose to join
• Room creators control their space — set passwords, allow or restrict guest access, moderate conversations
• Rooms automatically close when the creator leaves, after inactivity, or by manual closing
BUILT FOR REAL LIFE
• Concerts & Events — Create a room for the crowd around you
• Neighborhoods — Discuss local news, lost pets, or organize meetups
• Travel — Start conversations at hotels, airports, or landmarks
• Business — Engage nearby customers with location-based promotions
• Campus — Study groups, dorm chats, campus alerts
EARN & COMPETE
• Earn points for creating rooms, sending messages, and exploring
• Unlock 30+ achievements with custom badges
• Climb the leaderboard and earn titles like World Champion
SAFE & PRIVATE
• Phone verification required to create an account
• Content moderation, reporting, and blocking built in
• Room creators can mute, ban, and remove users
• Profanity filtering and age-appropriate content controls
• Location used only for geofencing — never shared with other users
