Philosophy and ethics for grades 5 to 10: worksheets for lessons on paper, digital classrooms for lessons on screen — both matched to your school type.
With the PhiloWelt app you prepare a philosophy lesson in a minute — and
teach it with the whole class on their devices.
Whether ethics, philosophy or values education: the app suits students
from year 5 to year 10 at every type of school. Learning texts, tasks and
worksheets are generated on the spot — matched to topic, school type and
year group.
It also works for international preparatory classes: all content is
written in language-sensitive form and is available in German and English.
TWO WAYS THROUGH A LESSON
• PAPER MODE — finished worksheets for lessons with pen and paper
• CLASSROOM MODE — the whole class philosophises together on their devices
SIX TOPIC AREAS FROM THE CURRICULUM
The focus areas follow the North Rhine-Westphalian curriculum for
Practical Philosophy and change with the year group:
• Cognition — Perception and illusion · Reality and virtuality
• The Self — Person and personality · Concepts of the self
• Responsibility — Humans and nature · Freedom and responsibility
• Relationships — Relationships and togetherness · Community as a
challenge
• Justice — Justice · Participation and responsibility
• Present and Future — Sustainable living and learning · Sustainable
development
PAPER MODE — A WORKSHEET IN A MINUTE
You pick a topic and a focus area, the app produces a complete A4
worksheet:
• Learning text with line numbers and three tasks at three levels
• The same lesson again in simplified language — differentiation without
preparing twice
• A board plan with answers, likely student responses and pointers to the
place in the text
Year group and school type come from the settings. Every sheet can be
read, shared, printed or saved to a USB stick — and goes into the archive
automatically, sorted by year and topic.
CLASSROOM MODE — PHILOSOPHISING TOGETHER
The teacher opens a digital classroom, students join with a four-digit
room code. A lesson in four phases:
OPENING — A picture and an audio piece tune the class into the topic.
First thoughts are brought together in real time into one shared question.
LEARNING TEXT — The text introduces the question, shows what it meant
then and means now, and presents two opposing positions — matched to
school type and year group.
TASKS — Three tasks at three levels: recall, explain, judge.
RESULTS — Every answer is assessed, with concrete pointers for
improvement. The best answers are shown, all others stay anonymous.
If a device loses its connection, one tap picks the lesson up where it
left off.
DIGITAL LESSON FOLDER
Learning texts, answers and feedback are saved automatically. Nothing is
lost.
TRY IT WITHOUT A CODE
You need no licence code to start. The first 30 requests are free, with
no time limit — enough for several worksheets or a full lesson.
FEATURES AT A GLANCE

An archive of ready-made worksheets
Paper Mode now keeps every prepared worksheet for your school type and grade
in the archive, arranged by the content fields of the NRW curriculum. Browse
first, create second – no waiting.
No duplicate worksheets
Create a second sheet on the same question and you now get a different one
instead of the same.
Classroom Mode: no more tied rankings
When two students reach the same percentage, the total time across the three
tasks decides. A clock icon marks whoever was faster.
Classroom Mode: match first impressions to the thinkers
As the second task is revealed, the class's first impressions are set
against the two thinkers – with portrait, name and the students' initials.
Impressions that fit neither appear under "Own paths". Tap to move a
student.
Also: revised help texts and a corrected display in the trial account.
9.6.2 6d ago
This version focuses on classroom mode – on what shows up in a lesson: the
learning texts, the tasks and the marking.
Learning texts
• No specialist terms in years 5 and 6 any more, not even explained ones.
• Texts stay with the curriculum focus instead of drifting into a related
topic.
• The first section introduces the topic philosophically; the third picks up
the case from the audio story instead of inventing a new one.
• New checks before release: does each thinker answer the question, and do
they really lead to different decisions in the case described?
Tasks and model answers
• Markedly shorter, at the level students actually write at.
• The first task asks for exactly one thing; the second only presents the two
positions.
• More variety in the operators, graded by year group.
Marking
• Short answers no longer fail over a single typo.
• "ae", "oe", "ue" and "ss" no longer count as spelling mistakes – many
keyboards have no umlauts.
• No more suggestions asking for something the answer already contains. And
full marks now come with praise, not a to-do.
• In the third task the decision counts as soon as the thinker is named and
the case is taken up.
Lesson question
• Shorter, without subordinate clauses, and always one question instead of two.
Fixed
• A dialogue for removing the licence appeared after entering a licence code.
• A network error could appear on the first AI request despite a working
connection.
9.5.0 Oct 6
Audio introduction
In classroom mode, the audio story sometimes stopped after a few seconds and
could not be restarted. This is fixed. It also loads much faster now, even on
a crowded school network.
First impressions
Contributions from the class now scroll along like a chat. No more scrolling
down by hand.
Layout
In landscape, the title "Present and Future" was cut off.
Language
On devices that had once been set to English, tapping a word in classroom mode
showed the translation instead of the explanation. Classroom mode now always
uses the language the teacher chose for the room.
9.4.0 Oct 3
New topic area: Present and Future
• The sixth topic area of the curriculum has arrived — "Present and
Future", covering sustainability, utopias and concepts of peace.
With its own artwork for both curriculum stages and twelve focus
areas to choose from, in Paper Mode as well as Classroom Mode.
Classroom Mode
• Back into a running lesson: if a tablet drops out of the room, the
student returns with a single tap — same identity, same progress
they already had.
• The audio piece is shorter and calmer now, noticeably briefer for
years 5 and 6 than for older classes.
• The learning texts are shorter too, graded by year and school type.
• The first task now asks about the story rather than the picture,
and the question is part of the task itself — nobody has to guess
what it was.
• The results view shows the learning text, the task, the student's
answer and the model answer side by side.
Paper Mode
• More variety: the focus areas of a topic now share one pool, so the
same debate no longer comes up twice.
• The debates are phrased more openly — they no longer give away a
side before the class has discussed it.
Smaller things
• The request balance shows the same figures everywhere and can be
opened in landscape too.
• In the student role, year and school type can no longer be changed.
• Several display issues with long headings and long questions fixed.
9.3 Sep 28
New topic images for years 7 to 10
Every topic now has its own image for the upper stage, matching the focus
set out in the curriculum. Three images for years 5 and 6 have been
replaced as well.
Subtitles follow the curriculum
Each topic card now shows the official focus for the selected year group
— a different one in year 6 than in year 10.
The opening feature now matches the picture
The audio piece begins in what the class can see and returns to it at the
end. The discussion topics behind it have been rewritten and are drawn
from the images themselves.
Reading without page turns
Learning texts now run as one continuous text, with two buttons for the
font size. No more line breaks in the middle of a sentence.
Smaller fixes
In task 3 the text was cut off at the bottom when the page opened. The
word explanation panel can now be closed by swiping down.
9.2 Sep 21
Weekly balance
Tap the counter in the bottom bar. You now see what this week's requests
were spent on — worksheet, class lesson or self-study, each with its
date, and how many are left.
Worksheet mode comes first
With a teacher code, the app opens on worksheet mode. Lesson preparation
is where you need it when you start.
Visible progress
While a worksheet is being created, the app now names the step it is
working on. On a slow connection it tells you that generation continues
and the sheet will be saved to the archive.
Worksheets are fact-checked
Every sheet is checked after generation and revised at once if something
is off. If the two thinkers do not genuinely disagree on the question,
the app swaps the pair — task 3 asks for a decision, and that needs two
real positions.
Checked texts in class mode
The same check now applies to the texts used in a class lesson.
Dependable marking
The same answer yields the same score. Hints refer only to what the task
actually asked for.
Reading on the student device
The text now scrolls continuously instead of paging, and starts out
complete on a single card. The font size can be adjusted.
9.1 Sep 13
This version makes the generated texts more reliable in substance – and puts you in control of what your class gets to see.
CLASSROOM MODE
Review the lesson before it starts
Once the three learning texts and the three tasks are ready, you see them in full on a single page: the question, both thinkers, all the texts in one piece and the tasks below them. Only your tap releases them to the class. If something isn't right, you end the session without a single student having seen any of it.
Learning texts that hold up
Every text that introduces two thinkers is now additionally checked for how it presents them, before the tasks are built from it. If a condition is missing under which a position only holds, it gets added. And if it turns out the two thinkers aren't actually opposed at all, but merely describe different sides of the same matter, the app picks a different pair. That way the final task – deciding who is right – can genuinely be answered.
Easier to read
The learning text sits in one piece on a single card instead of breaking onto a second page mid-sentence. The type size adjusts so the whole passage is visible at a glance – and anyone who wants it larger enlarges it with two taps.
Language matched more precisely to grade and school type
The texts now follow the same concrete specifications as in Worksheet mode: sentence length, share of subordinate clauses, handling of technical terms. For a fifth-grade class this reads noticeably different than for a tenth.
Fairer feedback
A second attempt can no longer lower the score – improving your answer always pays off. The improvement hints now ask only for what the task actually requires, instead of additionally demanding content from the learning text that was never asked about. And students who couldn't act on a hint get no reproach, but the same path once more, explained differently.
WORKSHEET MODE
Worksheets checked for substance
The same check as in Classroom mode. If it finds a false opposition, the sheet is rewritten with a different pair of thinkers – completely, so that the everyday example in the third section fits the new positions too.
More variety in the positions
Which two thinkers a sheet places side by side is now decided while the text is written, not already with the question. This yields more varied juxtapositions on the same topic.
More reliable
Worksheets abort with an error less often. Responses that take longer are given more time, and incomplete responses are recognised and retried instead of ending as a connection error.
9.0.3 Sep 6
NEW: PAPER MODE
Pick a topic and a focus — the app creates a complete A4 worksheet from it: a learning text with line numbers, three tasks at three levels, and board notes with solutions and line references into the text.
Every sheet is also produced in a linguistically simpler version — differentiation without doubling your prep. Read, share, print or save to a USB stick; everything is filed in the archive, sorted by grade and topic.
START WITHOUT A LICENSE CODE
On first launch you choose whether you are a teacher or a student. As a teacher you can try Classroom and Paper Mode right away: 30 AI requests are free, no code needed.
FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS
• Fully reworked for iPad — portrait and landscape
• A stored license code can be removed again, and the role switched at any time
• The digital lesson folder is always reachable, even before the first lesson

PhiloWelt 8.1.0 – What's New
This version improves Classroom Mode:
Stable discussion question: Once the collection phase ends – either via "Answer" or when time runs out – the last displayed question stays fixed. It no longer changes afterward in the background.
Clear input times: After time runs out, students can no longer submit any entries. Only contributions sent in time are counted.
Corrected info text on the Classroom Mode card for teachers.

8.0.0 Jun 23
**Version 7.0.0 — Classroom Mode in English & Improved Audio Player**
**Multilingual Classroom Mode**
Classroom Mode is now fully available in English. When the teacher uses the app in English, all students automatically switch to the same language when they join — including the audio story, learning text, cluster synthesis, and AI assessment.
**Improved Audio Player**
- New replay button in the teacher's player: restart the audio story from the beginning with a single tap.
- The player now stays open after playback ends — the teacher decides when to dismiss the image.
**Show or Hide Initials**
In the teacher monitor, initials from rank 6 onward can now be hidden or revealed with a single tap — perfect for a suspenseful reveal in class. Available in both portrait and landscape.
**Chat-Style Contributions**
Your own contributions appear on the right like in a messenger app, others' on the left — easier to read through long discussions.
**Synchronized Timers**
- Live countdown in the submit button with a fair 30-second warning.
- When the teacher adds time, the warning markers reset cleanly.
**Tablet Layout**
On tablets, cluster cards now appear in two columns — better readability on larger screens.
**Stability & Polish**
- Fixed: "Permission denied" error when leaving the room.
- Consistent button heights and uniform font sizes in the teacher's button bar.
- Header text and timer scale gracefully for long translations instead of overlapping.
- Dialogs and assessment feedback now appear in the selected language.

6.3.0 Apr 26
**Version 6.2.0 — What's New:**
** Classroom Mode: Redesigned Learning Texts**
The three learning texts are now encyclopedia-style expository texts, language-adapted to class level and school type. They introduce the problem, present two contrasting scientific positions from philosophy, social science, or psychology, and prepare students to form their own reasoned judgment.
** Fairer, More Stable Grading**
Identical answers now always receive the same score — no more random variation between runs. The controversial "independent phrasing" criterion has been removed from the first two tasks. Grading now focuses clearly on content and comprehensible language. Tasks reference the actual thinker names directly.
** More Reliable iPad Editor**
Fixed the occasional editor freeze when using Apple Pencil with an external keyboard. Copy & paste is now disabled in Classroom Mode for fair classwork.
**Additional improvements:** better edge-case handling, cleaner UI alignment in the join screen, and background stability work.
6.2.0 Apr 20
