GitTrace helps you understand local Git repositories on your Mac.
Import one or more repositories and GitTrace builds a private local SQLite index of commit metadata and changed file paths. Search stays scoped to the repositories you choose, with macOS sandboxing and security-scoped bookmarks keeping access explicit.
Find commits by branch, author, date range, message text, hash prefix, changed file path, or cached AI labels. The redesigned floating search controls keep the main window focused, while the condition builder lets you add only the filters you need. File path and author suggestions help narrow large histories quickly.
Open rich diff review windows with a file tree, per-file loading, whitespace and compact-line options, text search inside diffs, viewed and collapsed states, commit navigation, and patch export.
Use Code Timeline to trace matching changes across indexed commits by file or directory scope, keyword, author, and date range. Timeline results show matched snippets and can open focused diff windows for deeper review.
Commit Intelligence can summarize commits, classify changes, and label risk using a local MLX model or DeepSeek API with your own key. AI tasks run through one shared FIFO queue, continue when you switch pages, and can be stopped explicitly. DeepSeek users can view balance information and local monthly token usage history.
GitTrace also includes guarded commit actions such as saving patches, reverting a commit, and editing the HEAD commit message, with checks for branch state, clean working tree, and Git identity.
