Authorcise is an intentionally simple macOS writing app designed and built by one person (a full-time author) to help you start and maintain a daily writing ritual.
It was built to remove friction so you can sit down and write without overthinking it. Select a time limit, get your prompt, and start writing. No bloated settings, totally private, and absolutely free. Save your writing in a plain, universal text file directly on your device.
Features:
• Distraction-Free Focus: Open to a warm, paper-like canvas that simply asks, "Ready to write?"
• Four Writing Modes: Choose your flow. Use Freewriting, spark ideas with Prompts, lock in with Typewriter, or practice letting go with Mandala (a temporary mode where saving is not allowed).
• Strictly Local Storage: Save your work as plain, universal text (.txt) files directly to your device. No cloud syncs, no tracking, and no accounts required.
• Fully Accessible: Built to strict macOS accessibility standards. Includes complete VoiceOver support, accessible touch targets, and visual indicators so everyone can write without friction.

Version 1.0.7 is a substantial refinement focused on making Authorcise feel more native to your Mac and accessible to every kind of writer. A huge thank you to everyone who has emailed me about the app, with recommendations and kind words :)
What's New:
• Global Menu Bar Access: You can now toggle writing modes directly from the native macOS Menu Bar for rapid access.
• Accessibility Overhaul: I've redone the toolbar so every button is easier to click, and VoiceOver support is significantly improved. Screen readers now announce status alerts gently without interrupting your typing flow.
• Smarter Shortcuts: Accidentally hitting Cmd+Shift+M mid-sentence no longer silently swallows your keystrokes. The app now politely asks you to finish your current session before switching modes (and I've added some clarity messages for moments in which keyboard shortcuts are used to try to change modes mid-writing, at a moment in which they can't).
• Cleaner Interface: Standardized the icons using native macOS symbols, added a warm empty state ("Ready to write?") to welcome you, and polished the hover-tooltips so everything feels right at home.
As always, Authorcise remains completely free, private, and optimized for developing a daily writing ritual. Happy scrivening!
