Learning Japanese in Disasters

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

This app provides essential Japanese language lessons and basic knowledge to help users prepare for and respond to earthquakes and tsunamis. Japan experiences various natural disasters, including earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, landslides, and floods. Every year, these disasters occur, and unfortunately, many people are affected, sometimes losing their lives. In the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, ALTs from the United States lost their lives to the tsunami. To avoid disaster, it is crucial to quickly understand where, what, and how something is happening, and what to do when disaster strikes. However, much of this information in Japan is provided in Japanese. During a disaster, you may also need to ensure the safety of students in your classroom. This app provides drills to learn essential terminology needed at actual disaster sites and fundamental disaster knowledge you should know. App Features: ・Learn essential Japanese for earthquakes and tsunamis by repeatedly listening to audio. ・Carefully selected words and sentences actually used during disasters. ・Includes audio and video from real disaster drills, enabling practical learning of Japanese for emergencies. ・Learn about the types of natural disasters occurring in Japan. ・Acquire fundamental knowledge about earthquakes and tsunamis. This app was created in collaboration with Japanese language professors at the University of Alaska and other U. S. institutions, and faculty at Iwate University in Japan.
