Talky's full Swift code is public on GitHub, source-available under the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 license. Talky enables direct connection between devices without the need for internet, thanks to a secure and encrypted peer-to-peer technology. It transforms your iPhone into a true portable radio station, combining the simplicity of traditional walkie-talkies with the power of modern technology. Perfect for hiking, teamwork, events, or simply staying in touch when there’s no network, Talky works both online and offline, delivering clear, stable, real-time voice communication.
With a sleek and intuitive interface, Talky integrates Push-to-Talk communication, global FM radio, and direct connection between nearby devices using Apple’s native Multipeer Connectivity technology. It’s ideal for situations with no coverage or where instant communication is essential.
1. Advanced Walkie-Talkie Communication
Talky offers advanced walkie-talkie communication with a responsive Push-to-Talk system, complete with customizable haptic feedback and crystal-clear low-latency audio. It is compatible with AirPods, Bluetooth devices, and speakerphones, and features a one-handed optimized interface. It also works in the background and supports voice notifications even when the screen is off, ensuring continuous, uninterrupted communication.
2. Integrated Global FM Radio
Talky includes a global FM radio that lets you listen to thousands of stations from around the world with preconfigured frequencies and realistic audio. It supports M3U streaming, works in the background, and allows for fast station switching with intelligent interruption management.
3. Direct Connection Without Internet
Talky enables direct device-to-device connection without internet, using secure and encrypted peer-to-peer technology. Nearby devices are automatically discovered, with support for up to eight simultaneous connections. The interface features an interactive radar with estimated distance and sonar-style animations, while the system autonomously handles reconnections and continuously monitors stability via a heartbeat mechanism.
4. Smart Notifications and Localization
Talky handles notifications intelligently, alerting users in real time about new messages and connections, even when the screen is locked. The app is fully localized in 14 languages, with native translations and automatic adaptation to the system language. It includes an effective anti-spam system and advanced permission management to ensure a smooth, secure, and personalized experience in every use case.

Talky Pro subscription auto-renews at the end of each period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. You can manage and cancel your subscription in your Apple ID Settings.
Downloaded this when it first came out and now the addition of ads and subscription ruined it me 👎🏾
Developer Response
That's fair, and I won't argue with it — you were here before the ads. Talky is written by one person, and the ads and Pro are what pay the Apple developer account and the servers so the app itself can stay free. That doesn't make it pleasant for someone who had it clean from day one. Two things I can offer rather than excuses: ads no longer interrupt radio playback, and there's a rewarded video that gives you an ad-free hour whenever you want one, without paying. A one-time purchase instead of a subscription is the request I've now heard from several people, and it's the direction I'm looking at next. Thanks for having been there at the start.
Issue on smaller screens
Beatsprout
Seems like a cool app and will continue testing. Issue on iPhone 8, there appears to be no way to access the Talk/Explore/Connections/Settings buttons seen on the bottom of larger screen devices.
Developer Response
Fixed — you and another iPhone 8 owner reported the same thing, and it's sorted in the version now on the App Store. On short screens the bottom bar hides the promo row above it and tightens its spacing, so all four buttons stay reachable. Thanks for testing it properly and writing it down instead of just uninstalling.
Broken
DrOtterz
constantly spammed with connection requests after recent update and can’t find anyone nearby
Developer Response
Both of those are fixed in the version now on the App Store. The app used to re-send invitations automatically every few seconds, which is exactly what produced the flood of prompts — that retry loop is gone, and on a private channel peers now connect without asking you every time. Discovery also had a race: a valid invite from someone standing next to you could be rejected silently, which is why nobody showed up nearby. Also fixed. If it still misbehaves after updating, please write again and I'll dig into it — it's a one-person app and reports like yours are what I work from.
• Radio stations that refused to start now play: nine dead streams were replaced, and stations broadcasting over plain HTTP are no longer blocked. All 343 stations are now identical on iPhone and Mac.
• The Pro screen now says plainly who is behind Talky: one independent developer, with the code public on GitHub.
