Your reading life, delightfully organized.
BookOwl is a free reading companion for people who love books. Build your personal library, track what you're reading, and make your profile your own — all without ads, clutter, or data harvesting. Available on iOS and at bookowlapp.com.
YOUR PROFILE, YOUR WAY
BookOwl 2.0 introduces a completely redesigned profile with five tabbed sections — Overview, Collections, Reviews, Stats, and Personal. Choose which reading stats sit front and center with drag-to-reorder hero stats. Pick your aurora colors. Arrange your sections. Your profile should look the way you want it to, and now it does.
PRIVACY THAT MAKES SENSE
One toggle. Three options: Public, Friends Only, or Private. Visitors see a clear, friendly banner explaining what's shared — no confusing settings buried three screens deep. You're always in control.
IMPORT FROM ANYWHERE
Switching from another app? Import your full reading history from Goodreads, StoryGraph, Audible (via OCR), or Libby (timeline import). Your ratings, shelves, reading dates — everything comes with you. You can also export your library to CSV or JSON anytime. Your data belongs to you.
SCAN BOOKS IN SECONDS
Point your camera at any barcode. BookOwl identifies it instantly and adds it to your library. Stack of books at a used bookstore? Scan them all in one session.
RATE WITH PRECISION
Half-star and quarter-star ratings. No more agonizing over whether a book is a 3 or a 4.

Whether you read 5 books a year or 50, BookOwl helps you remember every one. Whooo's ready to get started?
I am a working mom who hasn’t read as much as I’d like since my son was born several years ago. I’ve felt like a “wannabe reader” for a while now, someone who loves books but barely has time to finish them. BookOwl has completely changed how I see myself. The personalized insights are what really set this apart. It doesn’t just track what you read, it helps you learn about yourself as a reader. I feel like I’m actively discovering my tastes and patterns instead of just passively consuming books. That alone makes me feel more motivated and excited about reading than I have in years. I also love that even browsing in a bookstore feels purposeful now. I can scan a book I’m curious about, add it to my library, and let the app help me figure out what to pick up next. The camera feature for adding books is such a thoughtful, practical use of AI, no tedious searching or typing. The app is also gorgeous. ✨ The animations are fluid, the design is elegant, and every interaction feels intentional. It’s clear that a lot of care went into this. Whether you’re a voracious reader or a slow one like me, BookOwl makes you feel like a reader, and that’s everything. This is the app I’ve been waiting for.
Finally, a high quality book app
StoatGiraffe
I just appreciate the design of this, the thoughtfulness and, the app experience. The easiness to be able to scan, track, and also discover, which is so cool. This is in comparison to using traditional apps like Goodreads etc. I finally feel like this is the app that books deserve, that encourages you to read (especially for those who struggle with it) and gets you excited!Love the app experience. Feels modern! Plus I found a book I definitely would not have read!
Getting back into reading
Grolet
I’m getting back into reading more after grad school and I loved the ability to move my Goodreads books over to keep that history while also being able to better rate books with more distinction between them!!! So excited about the reader journey and the way reading will be more gamified to help me hit my reading goals this year!
Beautiful reading tracker
Reading Sloth
I’ve tried a lot of apps for tracking my library, and I’ve always ended up back on Goodreads which I can’t stand. This finally seems like one that might stick! The app is really well designed and I love the reading stats and reader journey. Nice touch.
New in v2.0.4:
Improved
Faster imports: Importing your Goodreads or StoryGraph library is now faster, especially for libraries under a few hundred books. Larger imports also handle slow conditions more
gracefully — no more "stuck" progress bars.
Smarter search: Searches now handle small differences in punctuation and minor typos — looking up "Mrs Dalloway" finds the same books as "Mrs. Dalloway".
Fixed
Profile sync across devices: Fixed an issue where changes to your display name, photo, or favorites on one device did not always appear on your other devices. They now sync
reliably.
*NEW in v2.0*: Redesigned profile with customizable stats, aurora colors, and privacy controls. Import from Libby, Goodreads, StoryGraph, or Audible. Free, no ads.
