I’ve been using Kindred since it was in beta, and it’s been amazing to see how much it’s grown. The app keeps improving, there are no ads, and the coffee system is such a nice touch that lets you enjoy it without feeling forced to pay, which I love.The roleplay and storytelling feel really immersive. Whether you’re writing fanfiction or writing your own stories, it feels like your choices actually matter and they flow naturally. On top of that, the developers are incredibly kind and open to feedback, which makes the app feel like a real community. I highly recommend if you love fanfiction, roleplay, or storytelling, this app is definitely worth trying.

I was an OG c.ai user, back when they only had a website, no subscriptions, and several bugs—back when it was GOOD. Most people don’t remember when c.ai was an absolute revolutionary site, but that’s because it’s only gone downhill. I’ve recently cut down dramatically on the time I spend on c.ai because of all the money-hungry updates, and Kindred is actually SO good. They do have some memory issues, but all the ai apps I’ve tried do. You can really tell the creators love the app, and you don’t have to purchase any of the cool chat backgrounds like you do on c.ai, and the chats are surprisingly faithful to the characters. A few bugs and memory issues, but they’ve yet to sell out like c.ai did. If you grew up reading/writing fanfics/spent at least some of the past few years experimenting with c.ai and chai, this is the absolute best variant I’ve come across. Keep it up!

I tried this app while it was in the beta stage and I’m so happy that it finally released! I think that this app is so creative for having coffee as a currency system for the app but also having the fanfics and the multi character role plays as a group chat layout and it makes it feel more real rather than having several characters on the same bot on c.ai. I’m so proud of the developer for making this a reality and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter is!

Overall, it’s a great app, but I noticed some really weird things randomly happening.1. Sometimes it will randomly add an unrelated character, or a weird version of an existing character. Like, if a character is named Bob, a character named Bœb could randomly appear.2. Sometimes, for example, if you say something as Character A, Character B will say “Good idea, Character C” when Character C never said anything.3. Sometimes, if you say or do something slightly unhinged or crazy, the mood randomly shifts to “Existential Dread” and all the characters freak out over small things.
