Turn any text you see on screen into usable text—images, videos, PDFs, slides, and apps that don’t allow selection. Copy, translate, summarize, open links, and more in one drag.
Privacy-first, fast, and lightweight. TextScoop runs OCR and AI features locally on your Mac.
1. Copy from anywhere—fast
• Drag to select. Release to copy.
• Real text on your clipboard in one motion—no app switching.
2. Capture precisely (add/subtract while dragging)
• Hold ⇧ (or ⌥ in Settings) to add or subtract regions in one pass—fewer retries than rectangle-only tools.
• Get exactly the text you want—nothing extra.
3. Optional after-copy mini editor, with built-in cleanup
• Review & edit before you paste—changes auto-copy to your clipboard.
• One-step fixes: Remove Line Breaks & De-hyphenate, Trim, Remove Blank Lines.
• Find & Replace + Undo/Redo.
4. Copy tables and QR/barcodes
• Copy tables as CSV, TSV, Markdown, or HTML (paste into Excel/Numbers/Notion, etc.)
• Scan QR and barcodes; contents copy automatically.
5. Instant actions—not just copying
• Open detected links · Search the web
• Look Up (Dictionary/Wikipedia/Siri Knowledge)
• Translate · Summarize · Key Points
• Read Aloud · Share · Send to Services
6. Combine captures, paste once
• Turn on Keep adding to last copy to build one block from snippets—perfect for a collect-as-you-go workflow.
• Can auto-clear after ⌘V so your next copy starts fresh. (Auto-clear requires Accessibility permission.)
7. Always ready—menu bar or shortcuts
• Lives in the menu bar; click to run actions anywhere.
• Assign hotkeys for everything—make it truly one-step.
How it works
1. Choose an action from the menu bar or a shortcut
2. Drag to select on screen
3. Release to copy, translate, summarize, etc.
(Tip: Hold Shift or Option—configurable—to add/subtract regions. Press Esc to cancel.)

Best OCR capture tool I have used
BeardedBuilder
I’ve only been using this tool for a short time, but so far this is the best OCR capture tool I have used. It very reliably captures on-screen text without some of the odd substitutions that plague other OCR tools. The AI enhancements are a nice bonus. (BTW, I’ve also used both Copy 'Em: Ultimate Clipboard and Paste Queue for many years on a daily basis and would barely know how to function without them at work (especially Copy ‘Em). This developer really makes some excellent productivity tools!)The one oddity I’ve found is that, when invoking TextScoop, the cursor does not reliably change to the + symbol on my multi-monitor setup. Note that this does not affect the functionality - i.e. I can still capture text with no issues. However, it is the only indication that you’ve successfully invoked the tool and are, therefore, ready to copy some text. So the fact that the cursor doesn’t change correctly means that you’re left wondering if you’ve done something wrong. For me, if I invoke TextScoop on external monitor 1, it only shows the “+” cursor on external monitor 2. If I invoke TextScoop on external monitor 2, it only shows the “+” cursor on the built-in Mac monitor. And if I invoke TextScoop on the built-in Mac monitor, it only shows the “+” cursor on external monitor 1. If that can be updated, this is definitely a 5 star app.
Developer Response
Thank you very much for the detailed report. The multi-monitor cursor issue has been fixed in version 1.1.4. It should now show the “+” cursor on the correct display when invoked. I really appreciate you taking the time to write this up!
Love the copy text feature…
mrstee
I love that as I am doing my family history research and I come across text I want to put in my genealogy program and not have to type it, I can use TextScoop. I can edit it before pasting if I want to but also after pasting it where I want it. A real big time saver for me. I’m sure that the other features are great also, just haven’t had a situation come up that I need to use the other features. Yet. Also, I have the Copy ‘em paste app which I have used for a very long time as my clipboard manager and it works great also. The text support is wonderful and very prompt at getting back to me when I have a question. Keep up the great work!

I could not ever go without this app ever again in my life. It has saved me so many headaches from copy and pasting PDFs
Fixed an issue where the app's menu wouldn’t appear in fullscreen Spaces on macOS 27.
