Need to break a large text file into smaller pieces? TextSplits makes it easy. How it works: Load your text file by dragging it into the app or using the file picker. Choose how you want to split it: -By number of lines -By number of characters -By number of words -By file size in KB or MB -By a custom delimiter See a preview of all chunks before you export. Each preview shows how many lines, characters, and words it contains. Click any chunk to view and edit its full text. Working with spreadsheets: Split a CSV and every piece keeps its column names. TextSplits repeats the header row at the top of each chunk automatically, so every file opens as a proper spreadsheet on its own. Preparing text for AI tools: Set an overlap and each chunk repeats a few lines, words, or characters from the one before it. That stops sentences and ideas being cut in half where chunks meet, which matters when you're feeding a long document into a context window. Customize your files: Pick how you want your files named. Use simple numbers, add a custom prefix, or combine numbers with your original filename. Set your own file extension and separator. Numbering widens automatically, so a thousand chunks still sort correctly. Export the way you want: Save every chunk as a separate file in a folder, or package them all into a single .zip archive. TextSplits asks first before replacing any files that already exist. Putting files back together: Splitting has an inverse. Open the Merge window, drop the pieces in, check the order and save them as one file. Files are ordered the way Finder orders them, so 2 comes before 10 and a document never reassembles in the wrong order. If you split a CSV with repeated headers, merging takes the extra header rows back out. Splitting on your own marker: Choose any delimiter and TextSplits cuts wherever it appears. Keep the marker at the start or the end of each piece and the files join back into the original exactly, or drop it and keep only the text between. What you get: -Five ways to split: lines, characters, words, file size, or a custom delimiter -Merge files back into one, in the right order -Overlapping chunks for AI context windows -Automatic CSV header handling -Preview and edit chunks before exporting -See statistics for each chunk -Customize file names -Export to a folder or a single .zip archive -Keep your delimiter in the pieces, or remove it -Opens files that aren't UTF-8, including Latin-1 and UTF-16 -Drag and drop files -Keyboard shortcuts for opening, splitting, and exporting TextSplits is for anyone who needs to split text files. Whether you're working with logs, data exports, source code, or any large text document, it helps you organize and manage your files.

Version 1.2 is a big update. NEW: MERGE FILES BACK TOGETHER Splitting now has an inverse. Open the Merge window, drop the pieces in, check the order and save them as one file. Files are ordered the way Finder orders them, so 2 comes before 10 and a document never reassembles in the wrong order. Split a CSV with repeated headers and merging takes the extra header rows back out. NEW: SPLIT BY FILE SIZE Ask for pieces of at most 64 KB or 5 MB and every file lands under the limit, without ever cutting a character in half. NEW: OVERLAP BETWEEN CHUNKS Repeat a few lines, words or characters at the start of each piece, so a sentence is not cut in half where two chunks meet. Useful when you are feeding a long document into an AI context window. NEW: CSV AND TSV HEADER ROWS Split a spreadsheet and every piece keeps its column names, so each file opens as a proper spreadsheet on its own. NEW: KEEP YOUR DELIMITER Splitting on your own marker can now keep it at the start or the end of each piece, so the files join back into the original exactly. NEW: EXPORT AS A SINGLE ZIP Plus keyboard shortcuts for opening, splitting and exporting, and a warning before anything existing is replaced. FIXED: YOUR TEXT IS NO LONGER CHANGED BY SPLITTING These were real problems and they are all gone: - Files written on Windows are no longer double spaced - Blank lines are kept instead of being dropped - Splitting by words keeps your line breaks and indentation - Large files split quickly instead of slowing down as they grow - Files that are not UTF-8 open correctly, and pieces of a UTF-16 file can be reopened ALSO IN THIS VERSION New artwork throughout, a tidier options panel with the split rules in one menu, and a warning before opening a file large enough to be slow.
