Meet SwiftStrip: the modern dock launcher for macOS. Floating docks, tabs, spring-loaded folders. All Pro features free for 30 days.
After years of searching for the perfect dock launcher - one that could replace that almost perfect app many of us loved before it was discontinued - I decided to build it myself.
SwiftStrip is a modern dock launcher for macOS that brings back the joy of organizing your apps, files, and folders exactly the way you want. No rigid grids. No forced workflows. Just flexible, floating docks that stay out of your way until you need them.
What makes SwiftStrip different?
It's simple when you want it simple, and powerful when you need more. Create as many docks as you like, organize them with tabs, customize every visual detail, and place them anywhere on your screen. SwiftStrip remembers everything - positions, sizes, contents - so your workspace is always ready.
Core Features
• Multiple floating docks that stay on top of your windows
• Tabs for organizing apps, files, and folders into categories
• Drag and drop from Finder - just drop what you need
• Click to launch, ⌘-click to reveal in Finder, ⌥-click to hide running apps
• Resizable grid that snaps intelligently
• Running app indicators so you always know what's open
• Spring-loaded folders - hover or hold to peek inside
Make It Yours
Every dock can look different. Adjust icon sizes from tiny to large. Position labels above, below, left, right - or hide them completely. Choose colors for each tab. Set opacity levels. Configure spacing and padding. Pick from horizontal or vertical layouts. The status bar shows your item count and current tab, and yes, you can customize that too.
Auto-Hide Options
Three ways to keep your docks out of the way:
• Slide off-screen and reveal on hover
• Fade to near-invisible until you need them
• Hide completely and reappear when your mouse approaches
Configure delays, choose slide directions, even keep just the tabs visible while the content hides.
Watch Folder:
Turn any tab into a live view of a folder's contents.
Keyboard-Friendly
⌘1 through ⌘9 switches tabs instantly. ⌘T creates a new tab. Everything feels native because it is.
Smart Details
Network volumes that get disconnected? SwiftStrip shows them dimmed with a badge, and you can remount directly from the spring-loaded menu. Moved a file? SwiftStrip helps you find it again. The app respects your Mac, using minimal resources and saving your configuration automatically.

Give it a try. Your desktop will thank you.

Well thought-out…
ChuckLMonkey
This is a really nice and well thought-out app launcher. The app has plenty of configuration options to make it your own. Much of the navigating around is simple and done via hovering. The free trial gives you the chance to go head-to-head with other similar apps. I believe the app is fairly new and so there are likely to be little hiccups here and there. The developer has been very responsive emails and has so far been quick to release an updated app. See for yourself by taking advantage of that fee trial.
Developer Response
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this thoughtful review. I’m really glad to hear that SwiftStrip’s customization options and hover-based navigation are working well for you, and that the trial helped you compare it with other launchers. You’re right that SwiftStrip is still fairly new, and feedback like yours is exactly what helps me smooth out the remaining hiccups and keep improving quickly. I truly appreciate your kind words about my responsiveness and update pace. Thanks again for giving SwiftStrip a try and for recommending others to test it out with the free trial.
DragThing replacement
Quest*1984
I’ve been missing DragThing. This comes very close to finally having a replacement.

Thanks for your rating! What could I do to make SwiftStrip even better for you and get 5 stars? Send me an email if you like: marc@asv.pt
- Menu bar icon: SwiftStrip now has an icon in the menu bar. It lists all your docks with their tabs and preferences, and gives you New Dock, Preferences and Quit.
- Hide the Dock icon: you can now run SwiftStrip from the menu bar only, without an icon in the macOS Dock.
- New "App Icon" section in Preferences with "Show in Dock" and "Show in Menu Bar". Both are on by default, and SwiftStrip always stays in at least one of the two.
- Icon reflections: a new "Icon reflections" option in Dock Preferences shows a mirrored, fading reflection under every icon. Set per dock, off by default. Labels below the icons sit on top of the reflection, so docks stay compact.
- Labels on hover: a new "Only show labels on mouse hover" option in Dock Preferences hides item labels until the pointer is over an item. Set per dock, off by default.
- Deeper folder menus: folder popup menus now go up to 20 levels deep instead of 5, including folders on network shares.
- Fixed: browsing folder menus slowly used more memory over time. Memory is now released each time a folder menu closes.
- Fixed: with labels switched off, Dock Preferences still showed the label font and font size settings. They are now hidden together with the spacing slider.
