IdenticalCheck is a small menu bar app for macOS that tells you if two files are exactly the same. Drag files onto the menu bar icon and get a clear answer in a moment.
The app calculates SHA256 checksums for each file and compares them, so you know the result is accurate. You can drop two files at once, or drop one file and then the second later. The icon changes to show if the files match or differ, so there are no popups or windows to manage.

• Menu bar panel: click the icon to open a panel with a drop area. It stays open while you work in Finder, so you can drag files in without aiming for the menu bar. Handy on macOS 27, where dragging to the top of the screen opens Mission Control.
• Right-click in Finder: select two or more files and choose Check if Identical.
• Compare more than two files at once. Files with the same contents share a letter, so duplicates stand out.
• See each file's SHA-256 hash, and select it to copy.
• Choose Files… lets you pick files without dragging.
• Errors now appear in the panel instead of a separate alert.
