Listening Cubby: Kids Audio

Screen-Free Music & Podcasts

Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

A calm, low-stimulation music and podcast player for kids. New: grown-ups choose exactly which playlists show, and parent settings now sit behind a grown-up hold. You cannot pre-vet every album cover your child sees. Listening Cubby lets you turn them down, or off. It plays the Apple Music playlists and podcasts you have already chosen, in a player calm enough for a four-year-old to run on their own. You decide what appears on screen: full artwork, softened to grey, or a plain icon and nothing else. Music plays through the Apple Music subscription you already have. Podcasts need no subscription at all. THIS IS NOT A SCREEN TO HAND OVER There is nothing to browse, search or discover because there is nothing in the app except what you put there. One large button starts what you chose. The artwork can be greyed out or switched off entirely, and the phone can be locked while the audio keeps playing. The most common way to use it is as a player, face down or in a pocket. WHAT YOU CONTROL - Which playlists and podcasts exist. No catalogue, no search, no recommendations, no autoplay into something you did not pick. - What the screen shows. Three artwork modes: Bright, Soft and Icons. - What competes for attention. No ads, no algorithm, no tracking. WHY PARENTS USE IT - Bedtime and wind-down, without a bright, busy interface. - Car trips and waiting rooms, without handing over a screen. - Children who find busy interfaces overwhelming, including those with autism or ADHD. - Independence. The controls are large, few and obvious, so a young child can start and stop without asking. PRICING Free to download and keep: one playlist and one podcast, with no time limit and no ads. A single $4.99 purchase unlocks unlimited playlists and podcasts, once and permanently. There is no subscription, and the unlock is shared through Family Sharing. REQUIREMENTS iPhone or iPad. An Apple Music subscription is required to play music. Podcasts play without one. Built by a parent who wanted this for his own children and could not find it.

Visible playlists in Grown-ups now switches each playlist on or off. The Grown-ups tab opens with a 3-second hold. Fixes for buttons that didn't always respond.
