more Ask Hisab, now on your home screen
Ask Hisab could only be reached from the personal quick-action row or a
paywalled button inside Insights, so most people had no route to it at all. It
now has its own card on the dashboard, right under the figures it can answer
questions about, in both the default and groups layouts.
Tap it and ask about your own money — what you spent where, how a budget is
doing, which subscriptions renew this month, who owes whom in a group — and the
answer comes from your ledger, not a guess. Ask Hisab is part of Hisab Plus.
Bengali, rewritten
The Bengali app had been machine-translated into words that were plausible but
wrong: "category" rendered as a month and a given name, "expense", "budget" and
"transactions" each turned into an unrelated term, and around twenty save
confirmations read "successfully save!". Every screen still displayed, so none
of it showed up as missing — it just read as nonsense to a Bengali speaker.
Three hundred and seventy-four strings are rewritten.
Three of those were not wording but safety: a delete-account confirmation that
never said the data would be deleted, two validation messages that said amounts
must be negative when the rule is the opposite, and an archive confirmation that
said "edit". The Ask Hisab screen, which had existed in English and Hindi only,
now reads in Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam too.
Recent Activity, made honest
Recent Activity paged twenty rows at a time and filtered personal from group
spending over only the page on screen, while the header showed a wider total
that counted rows you could not see. The figures above the list now describe the
list underneath them.
1.2.12 Oct 8
Ask Hisab, corrected
Ask Hisab could give a confident wrong answer about your groups. Someone in
seven groups asking how many they had was told there were none, and questions
about a group by name failed while that group sat there with sixteen expenses
in it. That is fixed: you can now ask about a group by name, the counts are
what you actually have, and a lookup that fails says which group it failed on
instead of implying you have none.
Expense answers also carry a real total now, added up over every matching
expense rather than over the few that fit on screen — and that total is shown
on the card, so you can see the figure the answer is quoting.
The mic is a tap toggle
Tap once to start, tap again to stop. A tap used to do nothing at all — it was
press-and-hold, with nothing on screen to say whether it had heard you. A panel
above the box now shows a waveform and the words as they are recognised.
Smaller things
The question box no longer sits underneath the keyboard on Android.
Ask Hisab is drawn in the app's own colours rather than a retired palette, which
also fixes contrast on several elements in the light theme.
Ask Hisab is part of Hisab Plus.
Also fixed
• Profile pictures, group photos and payment-proof screenshots are resized
before they are uploaded. A picture straight off a modern camera was sent at
full size to fill a space a hundred pixels across; it now sends in a fraction
of the data.
1.2.11 Sep 17
Ask Hisab
You can now ask questions about your own money and get an answer back.
"How much did I spend on food last month?" "Am I over budget?" "What do I owe
Rahul?" "Which subscriptions renew this week?"
Ask in English, Hindi or Hinglish, typed or spoken — hold the mic and the
question fills itself in.
Every answer arrives with a card: a summary, a category breakdown, the actual
list of expenses, your budget status, a trend, a settlement plan. The figures on
those cards are read straight out of your own records rather than written by the
assistant, so what you see cannot disagree with your ledger. It only ever reads
— nothing you ask can change or delete an expense.
Ask Hisab is part of Hisab Plus.
Smaller things
Mark all as read now exists in the notification centre, and it clears every
unread notification rather than the first fifty.
Friends is reachable from the groups dashboard. If you use Hisab for groups
only, nothing on that screen linked to it before.
Fixed
• A rejected save, settle-up, sign-in or upload could close the app outright
instead of telling you what was wrong. Reported on 1.2.9; it affected every
screen that reports an error.
• When the server turns down a form, the message is now in your language and
names the field. It used to arrive as raw English validation text.
• Friend search and group member search showed "[object Object]" on failure.
• A receipt total no longer picks up a UPI reference number instead of the
amount — a twelve-digit reference printed near the bottom of a bill was
exactly what the total scanner looked hardest at.
1.2.10 Sep 16
Your phone does more of the work this time.
Voice entry no longer needs a connection. Speech recognition runs on the device
where the device supports it, so you can add an expense on the metro or in a
basement. On Android you can download the language pack for your language the
first time you need it.
Receipt scanning runs on the device too. Point the camera at a receipt and the
merchant, date and total are read on the phone — the photograph itself never
leaves it. Fields we are unsure about are marked so you know what to check, and
if the amounts on a receipt do not add up we say so rather than quietly saving
the total.
We now warn you before saving the same thing twice. Scan a receipt you already
saved, or repeat a spoken expense, and you get a heads-up instead of a duplicate
in your ledger. It is a warning, never a block — sometimes you really did buy
the same coffee twice.
The names and shops you use most are recognised more reliably when you speak.
Fixed
• Receipt amounts of ₹1000 and up were being cut to their first three digits
• A group receipt that needed checking lost what had been read from it
• Notifications now arrive for friend requests, accepted requests and settle-ups
• Notification amounts show the right currency and grouping
• Tapping a notification opens the screen it is about
• Editing a group no longer loses a custom group type
• Sign-in retries a failed Google handshake instead of giving up
• The category picker opens as a sheet instead of taking over the screen
1.2.9 Aug 27
Voice entry got a serious accuracy pass.
Amounts are now recorded exactly as you say them. If you said one thousand and
thirty rupees, that is what gets saved.
Expenses are named after what you actually bought. "Bought petrol for ₹1030 paid
in cash" is now saved as Petrol, not as the payment method.
Say how you paid — "paid by UPI", "cash diya", "by card" — and we'll record it
instead of assuming.
Group expenses hold on to the people you name. Say "dinner with Rahul and Priya"
and the split stays between the three of you, even if we ask you to confirm
first. When we're not sure we heard a name right, we now ask instead of quietly
splitting with everyone.
Expenses land in the right category far more often, whether you speak them or
type them.
New in Settings: choose your default payment method. Group expenses can record
how they were paid, too — and UPI only appears where it applies.
1.2.8 Aug 21
Say it, and it's logged
Press and hold the add button and just talk. HisabAI now understands income as
well as expenses, so "got salary 50000" files itself as income instead of
landing as an expense you have to go back and fix.
• Speech is now transcribed on our servers, which copes better with Hinglish
and a noisy room than the phone's own recogniser
• Recording stops on its own after 30 seconds, and stops if you switch away
• A recording that picks up nothing no longer uses one of your voice credits
• Voice uploads are around a quarter of their old size
• SIPs, school fees and pet costs now land in the right category
Maths in the amount field
The amount box on a personal expense now does arithmetic. Splitting a bill
three ways, adding up a receipt, taking off a discount — type it with +, −, ×
or ÷ and HisabAI works out the total.
1.2.7 Aug 19
Corrections that stick
Change a category once and HisabAI remembers it. The next transaction from that merchant is filed the same way without asking again — and it keeps working when the merchant's name shifts slightly from month to month, the way electricity bills and card swipes usually do. A short confirmation now tells you the correction was remembered, so you can see it landed.
Subscriptions, spotted properly
• Recurring charges that were being missed — streaming and similar services — are detected again
• SIPs, EMIs and other investments are no longer mistaken for subscriptions, so they stop setting off "new subscription spotted" alerts
• The same subscription no longer alerts you twice
• The Subscriptions screen opens faster and does far less work in the background
Privacy and data use
• Turning analytics off in Settings now switches it off completely. The app stops collecting and stops contacting the analytics service at all.
• When analytics is on, your account is identified by a one-way scrambled ID — never your real account details
• Analytics is sent in batches instead of one message at a time, which means noticeably less mobile data and battery use
Also
• Saving an expense is lighter, especially on accounts with a long history
1.2.6 Aug 12
Choose what you track
Tell HisabAI whether you're here for your own spending, for shared bills, or for both — and your home screen is built around that choice. Personal and Groups each get their own dashboard. You can change it any time in Settings.
Light theme, done properly
The app now follows your phone's appearance setting, and light mode has been reworked end to end so every screen, chip and label is readable in it.
Voice and capture
• Add expenses and income by voice from the personal dashboard
• Receipt scans are applied to the form instead of being discarded
• "Enter Manually" now opens the add-expense form
SMS import that keeps up
Import resumes from exactly where it stopped, so being away from the app for a few days no longer leaves gaps in your transactions.
Clearer names
Hisab Score is now Money Health, and Money Profile is now Payment Methods.
More of your language
Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi coverage is more complete — and text that previously showed internal labels instead of real words is fixed throughout the app.
Your free plan
Free accounts include 50 expenses a month. Voice input and receipt scanning are part of Plus and Pro.
Also fixed
• Google sign-in on Android
• Family group expenses are editable again
• Groups with nothing left to settle can be archived
• Group totals are correct on groups with many expenses
• The back button returns to the screen you came from
• The notification bell works on the new dashboards
• Budget categories no longer double-count subcategories
• Account deletion is blocked until your balances are settled
