Capncap: Screen Recorder
Terminal, camera & demo videos
Only for Mac
Free
Mac
Record your Mac and get a link. Screen, camera and microphone are recorded as separate files on one clock, and nothing is baked together while you record, so the person watching picks the layout: picture in picture, side by side, stacked, or screen only.
Made for demos. When you record a terminal, every command you run comes with the video as text: the folder it ran in, how long it took and the code it exited with. Anyone watching can copy it, or jump to the moment it ran.
Agents can record too. The command line is the app itself, and App Intents, AppleScript, a URL scheme and an MCP server on your machine all run the same commands. Claude Code can record a demo of what it just built and hand back the link.
Stop, and the link is ready. The upload runs while you finish and retries until it lands.
You do not need an account to record. Ask capncap to keep everything on your Mac and it writes the video files, a timeline and a readable README into one folder.
- Record any window or display, with the cameras and microphones you choose
- Viewers pick the layout, because every source is still its own file
- Terminal commands as copyable text, with the folder, the duration and the exit code
- Every terminal works: Ghostty, iTerm2, Warp, Terminal.app, kitty and WezTerm
- Click rings and zoom, applied after the recording rather than burned into it
- Chapters from window switches and from the markers you drop while recording
- Captions produced on your Mac, with an SRT file to download
- Vertical exports for TikTok, Reels, Shorts, X, LinkedIn, square and portrait
- Drive it from the command line, Shortcuts, Siri, AppleScript, a URL, or an agent
- Native macOS app, macOS 27 or later
Free.

capncap 2.1.
Record more at once: a second microphone in its own file, a camera on its own with no screen, and an iPhone's screen over a cable, with its sound. Several windows go in one take from the command line, MCP and Shortcuts.
Turn on Keep the Last 15 Seconds and ⌘⌃L saves the moment you just saw, screen and camera, as a recording with a link.
Show Keys is back as a setting, off until you turn it on.
Record from Control Center, find recordings in Spotlight and ask Siri for them. A recording an agent started says so.
Cameras come and go without breaking a take. The picker names an iPhone as an iPhone, Desk View opens, and a camera that sends no picture says so on its tile, with Try Again.
Making a recording public from an agent, a script or a shortcut waits for your click on the Mac. Recordings play through capncap.com links that expire.
Also: terminal commands come only from the terminal you record, Presenter Overlay no longer shows your face twice, the timeline stays in step after a pause, Center Stage is yours to set, and every control has a name for VoiceOver. capncap now sends usage data that is not linked to you; turn it off in Settings › General.
