New in 1.5: the Stream window, podcasts with transcripts, custom menus with live values from your smart home, and sync with channelBar Feeds for iPhone.
channelBar brings everything that matters into the macOS menu bar: news, podcasts and video channels, live values from your smart home and messages from your own scripts. One glance up is enough – no window switching.
EVERY CHANNEL HAS ITS PLACE
• Channels for news, podcasts, builds or your home – each with its own menu, history and templates
• Unread items stay marked, with a colored counter in the menu bar if you like
• Messages as a list or as cards with an image
• Compact mode: all channels in one menu – handy on small screens
• Arrange the order by ⌘-dragging right in the menu bar
THE STREAM
• One window shows every channel as a continuous list with image, title and text – with an unread area and details in the same window
• Snaps to the screen edge; links open in the built-in browser docked to the Stream if you like
PODCASTS WITH ALL THE TRIMMINGS
• Playback starts right away, without waiting for a download
• Chapters from the feed, the audio file or the show notes
• Transcripts to read along and search – from the podcast or from your own VTT or SRT file
• Skip silence, speed from 0.5× to 3×, playback history and downloads
NEWS AND VIDEO CHANNELS
• RSS and Atom feeds, podcasts and YouTube channels – with or without Shorts, per feed
• Guided setup with matching feeds from a curated selection
• Add your own feeds by search, podcast directory or web address, password-protected ones too; OPML import and export
• Consume Later keeps whatever doesn't fit right now
• Search across all channels finds passages in transcripts too
LIVE VALUES AND SWITCHES FROM YOUR SMART HOME
• Static channels build their own menus from Home Assistant and MQTT values
• Control lights, switches, target temperature or blinds right from the menu
• Optionally as a floating window on your desktop
• An assistant builds complete menus from your connections
MESSAGES FROM YOUR OWN SOURCES
• Webhooks, MQTT, Shortcuts, URL scheme and file watching for log files
• The command-line tool sends messages from scripts and build pipelines
• channelBar Cloud: buffers on the web that outside services fill
• Templates, custom icons, filters, sounds and notifications per channel
YOUR MAC, IPHONE, APPLE TV AND VISION PRO ON THE SAME PAGE
Pair channelBar with channelBar Feeds for iPhone, another Mac, channelBar TV or channelBar Vision using a QR code or a code – up to three devices. Feed and message channels, read state, Consume Later and your listening position come along, and a playing podcast moves seamlessly between Mac and iPhone. channelBar TV is free and shows your channels as a mosaic on your TV; channelBar Vision places them as windows in your space. Pairing is optional.
PRIVACY
No tracking, no ads, no analytics; App Sandbox and passwords in the Keychain. Your data stays on your Mac – only when you pair devices or use channelBar Cloud does it go to the channelBar Cloud Service.
TRY AND BUY
The download is free, and you can try every feature free for 14 days. After that, a one-time in-app purchase unlocks channelBar for good – no subscription needed. Family Sharing and the basic allowance of channelBar Cloud are included. Without the trial or the purchase, the app is locked; your channels and messages stay untouched. channelBar Feeds for iPhone and channelBar Vision are separate apps, each with its own purchase.
For macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple silicon and Intel.
