RetroWeather: Weather Like It's 1995
Remember flipping to the weather channel and just... watching? That smooth jazz, those scrolling forecasts, the way everything cycled through scenes? RetroWeather brings that experience to your iPhone.
It's not a simulation - it's a fully functional weather app with the soul of a '90s broadcast. Current conditions, hourly forecasts, 7-day extended outlook, live radar, weather alerts, and regional observations. All presented in that unmistakable beveled-box aesthetic with authentic scrolling text and scene transitions.
WHY RETROWEATHER?
- Always-On Weather Display: Put it on a stand, connect to external display, let it cycle. It's a weather channel for your desk.

- Nostalgic Aesthetic: Beveled blue boxes, smooth jazz, scrolling tickers, angled headers - faithful to the '90s broadcast look.

So pumped to replace the stock weather app on my phone with this beauty. It provides all the same info as others, but packaged in a beautifully nostalgic layout with the most soothing jazz in the background. Really helps me to slow down and be in the moment throughout the day rather than endlessly swiping through apps for the next dopamine hit. Can’t recommend enough for all ages!!
Aesthetic vs. Functionality

I truly want to like this app but in its current state, it’s just not reliable for checking the weather. I mostly check the widget for quick info and then open the app for more detail on upcoming forecasts but as of now, I experience freezing and incorrect locations nearly 90% of the time I try to use it. I’m keeping my subscription for the time being in the hopes that the funds for this solo developer help to make this app what I hope it can be. Love the idea and will look forward to a time where it functions more than as a fun trip down memory lane.
Developer Response
This review means a lot to me, thank you for supporting a solo developer even through the frustration. The freezing and location issues you described have been my sole focus for the past few weeks. I've shipped a series of updates addressing the root causes and the latest version is significantly more stable. I hope I can earn your confidence that this app will be everything you hoped for.
Takes me back to the 90s

Someone mentioned this on Reddit, I never went to go find an app so fast in my life. It reminds me of being in high school when my mom would just leave The Weather Channel on in the background. The weather info is also really great too, the satellite feed and detail are fabulous. I love this app!
Really rooting for this app, but it needs work
DEADby10
Pro subscriber here. At night, it shows the sun icon instead of the moon. At first I thought the app was just taking a moment to get the right icons but it never changed. Second, and the biggest issue, the weather isn’t accurate (maybe it’s just my area). It shows the temperature for a city that is near me instead of my city’s weather. If that was fixed, this app would be 10/10.
Developer Response
Thank you for going Pro and for the detailed report. Both issues you flagged are addressed in the update I have in review right now. The night icon will switch to the moon at sunset, and Pro will turn on Hyper-Local Weather automatically so you get your exact location instead of the nearest reporting station. Please update when it lands and if anything still feels off, drop a note at retroweather.app/#feedback.
