jack maguire island is a radio-inspired messenger for iphone and ipad. talk to people nearby without an internet connection, or keep your crew together in a private online fleet.
choose a vessel name, pick a channel, and transmit. no jmgi account is needed for nearby use.
three channels. different ways to connect.
16 · hail one vessel for a direct conversation. send text or hold to record a short audio message. if a vessel you have connected with before is away, jmgi can hold a text for up to 24 hours and try to pass it along when a route becomes available.
68 · broadcast text and audio to every linked vessel nearby. say hello, make a plan, or check who is around.
72 · leave a public text message that nearby and passing vessels can read and carry onward.
your crew, wherever you are.
private online fleets bring up to 20 vessels together through icloud. share photos, animated gifs, short videos, files, links, and audio alongside your messages. reply to a specific message, and open attachments when you choose. nothing autoplays.
invite a vessel you have linked with nearby, or share an invitation link. the fleet admiral approves each request. new members see messages sent after they join. fleet messages and attachments are encrypted on your device before upload.
gather around.
put your phones down together in radio silence, or host a round of nearby trivia. play the built-in harbor mix, or use apple intelligence on a supported host device to create questions on a chosen topic.
take the helm.
passage is a sailing game set in 1849. outfit a vessel in mystic, then sail toward san francisco by way of cape horn. manage sail, supplies, repairs, and crew one watch at a time. your voyage saves on your device and works offline.
captain's log gives you a private place for your own notes.
no ads. no analytics. no in-app tracking.
nearby channels use bluetooth or a local network. online fleets require internet and an icloud account. all nearby devices must use the current jmgi version. range, background operation, and queued delivery depend on participating devices and conditions; delivery is not guaranteed.
jmgi is not an emergency service or a replacement for marine vhf.
v1.3 brings more ways to talk and share.

• queue a direct text for a previously connected vessel for up to 24 hours, with delivery attempted when a route becomes available.

• reply to fleet messages and review attachments before sending.
• rebuilt nearby connections, optional nearby alerts, and improvements to console controls and keyboard behavior.
• support for ios and ipados 17 and later, with a built-in trivia round when apple intelligence is unavailable.
update every nearby device to v1.3. nearby messaging does not connect across v1.2 and v1.3.
