Walk the path of literature's greatest journeys!
As an avid book reader, I was always looking for ways to really put myself in the world of the protagonists of my favorite novels. Footnotes Character Journeys is my attempt to really put myself in the hiking boots of my heroes! In Footnotes, every step you take in the real world is reflected in Odysseus's journey home, Elizabeth's ride to Pemberley, or a Poe character's haunted walks. Footnotes uses your actual walking and cycling in the real world (as tracked in Apple Health) and maps that onto the journeys of literature's most legendary figures. Your actual GPS data is never used, only your raw distance traveled.
Install Footnotes, and start your own epic journey!
I always get bored with tracking my steps. I’ve tried several apps similar to this but this one has by far been the most engaging!

Getting my steps is so fun with this app! It’s so motivating.
Footnotes is ready for iPhone Duo. Open the phone and your journey map and Field Journal share the inner display, with the map actions in a vertical bar along the edge, the way the Duo lays things out. Close it and the cover display keeps the phone layout you know.
We also fixed the story distances. The Storybook and story pages used to quote a rough figure from the story notes, which could disagree wildly with the route once you set out. Overview distances now come from the waypoints themselves, so what you see before you start is what you'll walk.
Plus a few smaller fixes:
• The Coming of Grendel is back on the Zealand coast, after an inland detour had it routing 300 miles over Danish bridges. If you're mid-quest there, your route refreshes and your walked distance is kept.
• Distances round properly instead of cutting off, so a 9.9-mile story no longer reads as 9.
