Pantr
Your Smart Shopping Assistant
Free
Pantr connects your recipes, your shopping list and your pantry into one loop: plan a recipe, its ingredients land on your shopping list, whatever you tick off moves into your pantry – and the next time you cook you can see at a glance what you already have. Everything syncs via iCloud, shared with your household, in a minimalist, native design.
Pantry

• Items ticked off your shopping list move into the pantry automatically

• Cooking updates your pantry automatically – across units, too (500 g from a 1 kg stock)
• Add an expiry date and get reminded in time
• Scan a barcode to fill in the product name
• Get a recipe suggestion based on what's in stock
• Entirely optional: pantry integration can be switched off per household

AI features – you choose the provider
• Apple Intelligence on-device (experimental), your own OpenAI key, or no AI at all
• Import recipes directly from the web – just paste a URL
• Take a photo of a recipe from a cookbook or magazine
• Generate a recipe by name using AI
• Get a recipe suggestion from your pantry
• Nutritional overview for recipes based on the USDA FoodData database
An OpenAI API key is stored securely on your device and never shared. Every other feature – shopping list, pantry, recipe management, cooking mode, sharing and sync – works fully without AI.
more New
• Highlight in the step editor: select a word (or type it) and tap "Highlight" – it becomes an italic placeholder, e.g. for intermediate products like "Bulgogi-Hack" or things you always have at home. Pantr offers highlights already used in the recipe again
• The recipe AI now marks intermediate products in the steps as highlights itself – never with a quantity and never instead of an ingredient from the list
Improved
• If an ingredient already appears as a placeholder in the steps, its other mentions in the text (e.g. after a photo import) are now linked as well
• When you delete an ingredient, its placeholders in the steps turn back into plain text – no italic placeholder points at nothing any more
• Items Pantr puts on the shopping list by itself (items with regular consumption) now show “Pantr” instead of your name
• Apple Watch: checking off an item no longer covers the next entries with a notice
Fixed
• In the step editor, tapping a placeholder always put it at the end of the text instead of replacing your selection or sitting at the cursor
• If you delete an automatically restocked item from the shopping list, Pantr no longer puts it straight back – only after your next purchase, or after a week at the latest
1.19.0 4d ago
New
• Automatic consumption plan: buy an item at least three times at an even pace (say, milk every week) and Pantr sets up the plan itself at the last purchase – your stock then ticks down on its own and the item goes back on your shopping list in time
• This now works when you tick items off on Apple Watch, too
• If you remove an automatically created plan, Pantr won't create it again for that item
Improved
• Sheets follow Apple's design: Cancel or Close (X) on the left, Done (checkmark) on the right – Done is only active when there is something to save
• Ingredients and steps in the recipe editor, and the recipe view, open in the same window with a Back arrow instead of stacking more sheets
• With unsaved changes, Pantr stops an accidental swipe-away and asks "Are you sure you want to discard your changes?" when you cancel
• Household configuration and Settings are now drafts: changes only apply with Done, Cancel discards them – the API key is only saved then, too
Fixed
• After joining a shared household, your own unshared household could stay invisible on that device
1.18.0 Oct 3
Fixed
• When two devices in the same household automatically restock an item at the same time, it no longer appears twice on the shopping list
• Some automatically added shopping list items were missing the name of who added them – it is now filled in afterwards
1.17.1 Sep 30
New
• New "History" view: sort your pantry by when each item was last bought – now also the default view
• New "Recurring consumption" view: shows items with a consumption schedule, sorted by how soon they'll run out
• The app now recognizes on its own when an item is bought regularly and automatically sets up a consumption schedule for it, refining itself with every further purchase – marked with a small icon, always correctable in the edit sheet, and can be turned off entirely in settings
• A subtle indicator appears on items that haven't been bought in unusually long
Improved
• Removed the "In stock / Out of stock" filter – items that have run out are already easy to spot from the greyed-out name and the "Out of stock" tag
1.17.0 Sep 29
New
• Pantry integration on checkoff can now be tuned more finely: "Automatically add new items" and "Automatically replenish existing items" are two independent switches instead of one – and a third now separately controls whether pantry stock is deducted automatically when you cook
• Apple Watch: checking off an item now shows the same short confirmation as on iPhone when it's automatically transferred into your pantry
Fixed
• "Schoko Chunks" and similar products landed in Other instead of Sweets
• "Käsekrainer" and similar sausage products landed under Dairy instead of Meat
• The automatic restock of nearly-empty pantry items sometimes only kicked in on your next visit to the Pantry tab, not right after app launch
• On Apple Watch, checking off a count-based item (e.g. "1 piece = 1 l milk") could create a duplicate pantry entry instead of replenishing the existing one
• The thumbnail shown when sharing a household still displayed the old app icon
1.16.0 Sep 26
Fixed
• Apple Watch: if the first sync after install took unusually long, the watch could get stuck permanently showing "not synced" – even after the data had actually arrived in the background. The watch now recognizes a delayed sync after the fact too, and shows the shopping list as soon as it's there
1.15.1 Sep 21
New
• Pantry notifications: expiry reminders now show the exact date and remaining amount, and tapping one opens the affected pantry item directly
• New Settings toggle: the automatic transfer of checked-off shopping list items into your pantry can now be switched off separately – the rest of pantry integration (availability badges, cooking-mode deduction, "already in stock" filter) stays on
• New app icon for iPhone and Apple Watch
Improved
• Pantry: a short toast now appears when a running-low item gets added back to your shopping list automatically
• Apple Watch: the shopping list now runs noticeably smoother when opened
• Pantry: removed an unclear "X weeks ago" hint
1.15.0 Sep 20
New
• Alongside OpenAI, you can now choose Perplexity, Mistral, Anthropic or Google as your recipe AI provider – each with its own API key in Settings
1.14.0 Sep 19
New
• Checking off a shopping-list item confirms with a short message how much of it is now in your pantry
• Pantry items untouched for over a month now show a subtle hint
Improved
• Adding an ingredient to the shopping list despite an "already in stock" warning now automatically marks it as no longer in stock in your pantry
Fixed
• Checking off a recipe ingredient (e.g. "15 ml tomato paste") overwrote the pantry with the small recipe amount instead of using the recorded shopping amount
• Ingredients with a preparation note like "chopped basil" created a second, separate pantry entry instead of merging with "basil"
1.13.0 Sep 13
New
• Cooking mode: say "Finish" to complete a recipe – alongside "Next", "Back" and "Cancel"
• The final page now tells you up front that "Finish" removes the ingredients from your pantry
Improved
• Cooking-mode voice commands are recognised more reliably over kitchen noise
• The pantry editor no longer opens the keyboard straight away – the amount stays visible when you only want to check it
• Apple Watch: "Connecting…" is much shorter on a first launch, and a watch that hasn't synced yet is no longer shown as an empty list
• A shared list is now called "Pantr Household" in the iCloud share – shopping list, recipes and pantry are shared together
• More items land in the right category automatically (including paté, gyoza and baking ingredients)
Fixed
• Items with English names landed in the wrong category on German devices – "Peanut butter" under dairy, "Wild rice" under meat, "Granola bar" under breakfast
• Household staples written in capitals ("WEISSWEINESSIG") weren't recognised and ended up on the shopping list unnecessarily
• Pantry items with recurring use that run out faster than the warning period (e.g. "rolls every 2 days") always reached the shopping list too late
• Ingredient references in recipe steps are now filled in when simply viewing a recipe, not only when editing it
• "All done" and the empty shopping list are now centred instead of sitting at the left edge
• The "Enjoy your meal!" final page briefly jumped upward on the last swipe
• Checking off a shopping-list item with no typed amount sometimes didn't restock the pantry, even though the item was already in stock
• Leaving a shared household could freeze the app for several seconds and crash
1.12.0 Sep 6
New: Purchase amount for pantry items
• Set how much a full purchase of an item is – e.g. "12 eggs" or "1 kg flour" – and the fill bar reliably shows how much is left
• The fill level now only changes when you actually change the amount yourself
• Items you count in pieces (e.g. eggs or coffee capsules) now show a fill level too, and warn you when they're running low
• The recurring-use interval ("every X days") can now be adjusted conveniently with +/-
1.11.0 Aug 15
New: Shopping list, recipes and pantry as equal tabs
• All three areas are now their own tabs with their own title – pantry used to be reachable only via the "…" menu
• Sharing, households and settings are now reachable from all three tabs, not just the shopping list
• Recipes and pantry have a floating search with its own compose button
Improved: Recurring use
• Items with a recurring use now land on your shopping list in time – before they run out, not after
• The fill bar now shows an estimated level for piece counts too (e.g. coffee capsules)
• The pantry row now separates "expiring soon" (date) from "running low" (amount) into two distinct hints
• The fill bar now turns amber for any item running low, not only ones with a recurring use
• "Out of stock" is now a clearly coloured pill instead of grey text
Fixed
• A freshly set-up Apple Watch wrongly notified the paired iPhone about the entire shopping list
• The wording of the automatic restock hint was unclear, in both German and English
1.10.0 Aug 14
New: Recurring use
• Record what gets used up on its own – "Milk: 200 ml per day" or "Toothpaste: 1 tube every 2 months"
• Your pantry goes down over time, with nothing to tick off
• Every pantry row shows how many days are left
New: Recipe notes
• Room for everything that isn't a preparation step – "chill the dough overnight" or "we make it without chilli"
• Included in import and export
Improved
• Ingredients left off the shopping list because they're in your pantry are now named – with the option to add them anyway
• A recipe can be added again as soon as its items are ticked off
• Clearer headings: every screen tells you where you are and which household you're in
• Tidier unit picker – recipe measures like pinch or dash no longer appear in the pantry or shopping list
• A newly created household is no longer switched to immediately
• Calmer shopping list without card frames
Fixed
• The category could no longer be changed in the item editor
• "Dash" turned into "pinches" in the plural
1.9.0 Aug 13

• Keep track of what's at home – with quantity, package size and expiry date
• Items you tick off your shopping list move into the pantry automatically
• Recipes show how many ingredients you already have
• Your pantry is updated automatically after cooking
• Get a recipe suggestion from whatever is in stock right now
• A reminder before something expires
