CoPace: Pacing & Fatigue
HRV Energy & Symptom Tracker
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
No armband. No sign-up. No cloud AI inside. No catch.
Your energy doesn't come with a gauge. CoPace turns the watch or ring you own into one you can read.
What today holds. What you have spent. What is left, right now.
The hard part is that the bill arrives a day or two late. By the time you feel it, the spending already happened. So CoPace counts as you go.
A day with CoPace
Morning. You open it once, and you know.
Overnight, CoPace looks at how you slept and how your heart settled. That becomes one line: a good day, a careful day, or an honest "not enough data yet". Under it is the number of minutes you have to spend.
Through the day. It counts while you get on with things.
CoPace works out the heart rate that counts as pushing it, for you. Every minute above that number comes out of your day. With an Apple Watch your wrist buzzes when you cross it, so you can ease off before you spend more than you meant to.
Evening. Ten seconds before bed.
One slider for how your body feels. One optional note. Somewhere to write down symptoms. Skip it and nothing scolds you.
Tomorrow. And it remembers.
If the last two days may be catching up with you, tomorrow morning can say so and show you why in plain words.
It knows standing up is not a workout
I wanted the Watch to know the difference between moving and standing still, because a buzz every time you stand up is noise. CoPace also looks at whether your wrist is moving, so walking to the kitchen and standing at the sink are treated differently. You are told when it matters and left alone when it is not.
Free
• Wrist alerts on Apple Watch when you go above your number
• Telling the difference between moving and standing still
• Your energy for the day, from how you slept and recovered
• Your minutes counting down as you use them
• A morning heads-up when the last two days may be catching up, with the reasons
• Morning and evening check-ins, and somewhere to note symptoms
• A different starting number if you take medication that slows your heart rate
• All of your data back out, whenever you want it
Pacing your day is free. Pro is for looking back, to see how your days add up.
Pro, if you want the longer view
• Suggested daily minutes from your own days, yours to accept or not
• Your number learns from your own history instead of staying fixed
• Symptoms tracked over months, so patterns have a chance to show
• How steady your pacing has been, week to week
• Your full history, not only the recent days
• A summary you can save or send to your doctor
Works with what you already own
Wrist alerts need an Apple Watch Series 4 or newer (watchOS 10.6+).
Daily energy works with an Oura Ring, Garmin, or anything that sends health data to your iPhone.
Nothing extra to buy.
Your data stays on your phone
There is no account to make. Your heart rate, sleep and steps are read from Apple Health on your phone, and the working out happens there. The part that learns your patterns never sends anything anywhere.
Two things are your choice and do leave your phone: connecting Oura or Garmin, and anonymous reports that tell me when the app crashes. You can say no to both.
Nothing hidden
The number CoPace watches is built from your own resting heart rate, and how it is worked out is published for anyone to read. Every heads-up tells you what it is based on. No AI writes you advice.
General wellness notice
CoPace is a general wellness app, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition, and is not medical advice. Consult your healthcare provider before changing your activity routine.

more I’ve been looking everywhere for a pacing app that is affordable, doesn’t require additional hardware than what I already own, and doesn’t over-promise. I’m still in early days of having this app, but the information it gives has been incredibly helpful. I appreciate the gentle framing of the information and frequent reminders that you’re not doing anything wrong. However, I do wish that the graphs provided more of a comparable breakdown of the numbers with more specificity. I’m hoping to see that in the future, as this app so far seems fairly comprehensive.
Developer Response Thank you for this generous, thoughtful review. It means a lot to hear the gentle framing and reminders are coming through the way we intended. We're happy for your feedback on the graphs as well, more specific, comparable breakdowns is a great idea and we'll be building toward that.

I’ve installed this app now 3 times with hopes that’s it’s been fixed. Nope. It starts writing things in the health app it has zero access to. It doubles exercise, calories, burned calories and those are just some that I track who knows that else it writes that I don’t see. I know it’s this app that causes this as it’s the only thing I downloaded at the time. As soon as I delete it, no more problems. It’s supposed to only read only - not write.
Developer Response Thank you for the honest feedback, and we're sorry this soured the app for you twice over.CoPace doesn't have permission to write steps or Active Energy, so it cannot change to those numbers. But we don't want to just leave it there. If you email support@copace.app or submit feedback from within the app then we'd be glad to look into what you're seeing with you.

- The Shield now buzzes only for its alerts, about 30 seconds after you go over your threshold and again at 2 minutes, not every time you cross it. If it loses your heart rate, it gives one gentle buzz so you know.
- If the Shield gets no heart rate reading, the Watch now says so and what to check, instead of showing In Zone. It also asks for Health access on the Watch when it needs to.
- Removed a likely cause of the Shield stopping on its own during the day: the Watch no longer runs a motion sensor it didn't use. If the Shield does stop, today's minutes are now kept.
- Home no longer briefly shows your day as it looked that morning, with nothing spent. Your evening check-in now always works from your latest numbers.
- Delete All Data & Reset now resets every setting too, not only your history.
- Saving a backup or downloading your data no longer opens an empty share sheet.
- Answering the morning check-in from its reminder no longer briefly shows the question again, and your answer is kept even if the app is updating your morning at the same time.
- Changing your threshold in Settings now reaches your Watch right away, including with VoiceOver or Switch Control.
- The data download, the feedback form and the personalization note in Settings now describe what they do.
- Less detail in the optional usage data.

New: an optional morning check-in. One tap on Home for how rested you woke up, plus a flare-day label for your own records. Want symptoms in the morning too? Turn it on in Settings → Symptoms. Add or change the past week from History. It doesn't change your numbers.
On a morning you mark as a rough start, or after a hard evening, Home no longer suggests doing a little more.
A check-in made just after midnight now counts for the evening it describes, and a quick check-in from Siri, the widget or a notification no longer clears the factors and notes you added in the journal.
Patterns now say how many times each one happened, and appear only when there's enough to go on.
If you use a wheelchair, the Shield now alerts on any time over your threshold, since it can't tell moving from still.
The evening widget uses the same plain words as the app and follows your text size.
The Shield now explains itself: your Watch runs it as a workout session, which is what keeps heart rate flowing when your wrist is down. Apple Health will count Shield time as Exercise and active calories. CoPace discards the workout itself and never saves calories or steps.
Turning the crown up on the Watch now raises your threshold, and VoiceOver can adjust it too.
Shield alerts now show as a banner on the Watch even while CoPace is the open app, and the active Shield screen scrolls so End is always within reach.
A threshold set from the crown is now worked out the same way as on the phone, and the crown waits while the Watch and phone are out of sync.
Delete All Data now also resets the Watch, and the Delete screen says plainly which support reports it does not remove.
If the Shield ends with a problem, CoPace discards the workout so nothing is left behind in Fitness.
Clearer wording throughout, and less detail in the optional usage data.
Be gentle with yourself out there.

Getting started is clearer. The first-weeks card now shows both steps: learning your nights, then learning from your days.
New for your first month: see what followed days with more time over your threshold, counted from your own check-ins.
History now shows your last 15 days for free, with how close your check-ins are to a personal model.
Reserve notes now look at how the following two days went.
Your threshold now waits two or three calm evenings before suggesting an increase, and no longer lowers automatically two days after a busier day unless your check-ins show a dip.
Crash reports and usage data are now off unless you turn them on. If the app closes unexpectedly, CoPace asks once before sending a report.
Stability improvements.
Be gentle with yourself out there.
0.15.0 Oct 14
CoPace now lives on your Home Screen and Lock Screen. Add the new Reserve widget and you can see today's read and how much of your Reserve is left without opening the app. There is a small one, a large one, and Lock Screen versions. Press and hold your Home Screen or Lock Screen, tap the plus, and search for CoPace.
If you forget the app exists, you can now ask for a short morning reminder to open it for today's read. It is off unless you turn it on, in Settings under Notifications.
Getting a new phone? Settings now has Back Up or Restore. Save one file to iCloud Drive or Files, then restore it on the new phone and your history and settings come with you. If you change your mind, you can go back to what was on the phone for 7 days.
The Home read is more honest about your day. Once you have used today's Reserve, the big headline stops inviting you to do more and says so. It only describes recent evenings when you actually logged them, and a small dip in your morning reading now reads "about your usual" instead of "above".
History has a new chart of time over your threshold while you slept, night by night over 30 or 90 days. It never uses your daily budget. It is there because a few of you were watching that number on the Home screen and wanted to see how it moves over weeks.
Garmin users: some Garmin watches don't share heart rate variability, and CoPace used to keep asking you to wear the watch to bed when that could never help. It now tells you plainly what your watch can and can't send, and everything that doesn't need HRV keeps working. Apple Watch users who weren't getting overnight readings now get told about sleep tracking, which is usually the reason.
Also: switching your data source now restarts your baseline so readings from one device are never compared with another's, and the CoPace Score chart no longer sends you to Settings when your threshold is being held at your resting heart rate.
Be gentle with yourself out there.
0.14.0 Sep 18
Better first two weeks.
CoPace spends its first stretch learning your usual overnight range before it starts scoring your mornings. Previously the app was not clear about this: the progress counter could sit at zero and ask for check-ins that could not move it. Now it tells you exactly what it is still learning, shows real progress as your nights add up, and makes clear that everything you log along the way is saved and already shaping your daily forecast.
Also includes small reliability improvements for diagnosing sync issues.

SEE COPACE BEFORE YOU SHARE ANYTHING
New here? CoPace now starts with a sample day. Before the app asks for a single permission, you can see what a morning looks like: your daily read, your Energy Reserve, and your personal heart rate threshold, all with example numbers. Your own pattern takes over from there.
FAIRER MINUTE COUNTING
Days where you walked and then sat down now split your Moving and Stationary minutes more accurately, and the last 30 days quietly correct themselves.
MORE SAY OVER WHAT YOU SHARE
If you ever send a diagnostic report to support, the app now shows you exactly what's inside before it goes anywhere, and you can choose to leave the health summary out.
ALSO IN THIS RELEASE
The Summary card now counts only your awake hours in its headline, a warm welcome back for returning subscribers, and a crash fix for when the app is put to sleep mid-save.

A quiet one. Some tidying under the hood so everything keeps running smoothly.

0.13.1 Aug 14
A steadier update: time spent still now counts differently, a threshold that holds its ground, and numbers that agree with each other.
Sitting still isn't the same as moving
Time over your threshold while you're sitting or lying down is different from time spent walking, and CoPace now tells the two apart even on days you don't run the Shield. A quiet morning shouldn't drain your energy budget the way an active hour does. The gentle nudge to rest now waits until you've actually been up and about.
A threshold that holds its ground
Your pacing threshold is now always kept above your own resting heart rate, so you're never marked as "over" for simply sitting in a chair. If your threshold does sit close to your resting rate, CoPace says so plainly — and says that time over it while you're still is expected, not something you did wrong.
Knowing when to stop tightening
If your week shows a lot of time over your threshold while your morning signal stays steady, that usually means the number doesn't fit your body, not that you keep overdoing it. CoPace now pauses its automatic nightly tightening and tells you it has, instead of quietly squeezing you further.
Numbers that agree with each other
The 0 to 10 reflection scale now reads the same direction everywhere, and your evening reflection shows up in your daily history where you can check it. The two "bounce back" figures each say what they measure. Your morning read and your Recovery Outlook can no longer tell you two different things.
You may also notice your personalization progress step back. The check for "enough logged days" was counting too generously, including history imported when you first set up. It now counts real days you've logged. The new number is the honest one, and nothing you logged was lost.
Two privacy switches instead of one
Crash reports and usage data used to share a single switch. They are now two separate choices, so you can help fix bugs without sharing anything else. If you had the old switch on, both stay on, matching what you already agreed to. You can change either one any time in Settings, under Privacy & Data. Crash reports never include your health readings.
Smaller things, fixed
The setup pages now scroll, so the Continue button is always within reach at any text size. The app opens cleanly on a brand-new install even with no internet connection. Oura step counts appear again. Garmin stops asking you to reconnect when nothing is wrong. Changes you make in Settings stick, even if the app closes right after. And the health-permissions check now tests what CoPace can actually read instead of guessing.
Be gentle with yourself out there.
0.13.0 Aug 11
A gentle update: a new way to track how you feel, fewer interruptions, and numbers you can trust.
Track how you're feeling
You can now jot down your symptoms and how your day went, right alongside your heart data. Over time, CoPace helps you notice your own patterns — what tends to show up before a harder day. Logging is always free.
Fewer unnecessary buzzes
Your Watch Shield now waits a moment to be sure a rise in heart rate is real before it taps you, so standing up or a quick task won't set it off. You'll still feel it when it genuinely matters.
Kinder to your schedule
Sleep now makes sense for non-standard hours, so shift workers and night owls get a fairer read on their rest and energy.
Steadier and more accurate
Your daily numbers are more reliable, your Watch and phone stay in sync, and the app runs more smoothly in the background.
Be gentle with yourself out there.
0.12.0 Jul 22
Fixed a display bug when related to heart rate estimate on the settings screen when using enabling beta blocker mode.
0.11.1 Jul 9
One clear read on your day — no charts to decode.
This release makes your energy easier to understand at a glance.
ONE CLEAR FOCUS (new) — Home now opens with a single, plain-language read on today: a good day to hold back, room to do a little more, or still learning your pattern. Each evening, one honest recap — within your envelope, a little over, or a heavier day.
MORNING ENERGY, EXPLAINED (new) — A single energy read that gently combines your recent heart rate, resting rate, and sleep. Tap to see exactly what's behind it. And on days your body feels different from the numbers, we now show Felt and Measured side by side — your experience is never overruled by a sensor.
COPACE SCORE & HISTORY (new) — A branded, no-shame pacing score, plus a weekly scorecard that shows how often you stayed inside your Energy Envelope and how your effort-minutes are trending.
SEE BEHIND EVERY NUMBER (new) — Tap almost anything to see how it was calculated, in plain language. Your Reserve is now framed as your body's battery, and passive background tracking clearly shows what it's using.
NUMBERS THAT MATCH YOUR REAL DAY — Time "over threshold" no longer piles up from overnight or tracking gaps, going past your Reserve simply reads "Over," and your daily score and Reserve meter now tell the same story.
FAIRER FOR MORE BODIES — On beta-blockers, your threshold no longer sits below your normal resting heart rate — no alerts just for sitting still. New to CoPace? One simple checklist replaces scattered "come back later" messages, with honest progress while it learns your pattern.
ALSO — More reliable Apple Watch status, clearer and calmer wording throughout, and accessibility improvements.
Thank you for pacing with us.
0.11.0 Jul 7
Introducing Energy Reserve - your daily energy, made visible.
This is our biggest update yet.
ENERGY RESERVE (new) — See how much you've drawn down through the day, in plain effort-minutes, against a budget that's yours to set. With an Apple Watch, watch it update live.
TODAY'S STEPS (new) — See your step count against a daily reference that adjusts to how ready your body is today. No fixed goals — just a number that reflects what makes sense right now.
RECOVERY OUTLOOK (new, free) — Each morning, CoPace weighs the strain you're carrying from the last couple of days and tells you, in one plain-language card, whether today deserves extra care. Because the day you pay for is often a day or two later.
LEARNS YOU, ON YOUR DEVICE (Pro) — Over a couple of weeks, CoPace learns which kinds of days have been hard for you and gently tunes your Reserve and Outlook to your own patterns. It only ever raises a caution, never silences one. Your data stays on your phone.
THE SHIELD IS NOW OPTIONAL (new) — Get your day from heart rate and steps in the background, with or without the Shield running. Turn the Shield on for live alerts as you cross your ceiling, off to let your other monitoring apps keep working.
USE THE DEVICE YOU ALREADY HAVE — Apple Watch, Oura, or Garmin. No extra band to buy.
Thank you for pacing with us.
0.10.0 Jun 21
YOUR THRESHOLD, YOUR WAY
Your pacing threshold now spans +13 to +50 above your resting heart rate — wide enough for people whose upright heart rate naturally runs higher than average.
Set it from your iPhone, or directly on your Apple Watch by turning the digital crown. No menus, no extra screens. Spin to your number and it saves.
CoPace never overwrites what you set. We show our recommendation right beside your threshold, with a one-tap button if you want to use ours. The choice is always yours.
In Manual, our recommendation stays at the conservative +15 starting point. In Adaptive (Pro), it learns from your evening heck-ins and refines over time.
- New Threshold card — your number, our recommendation, one tap to apply.
- Apple Watch crown — turn to set, no menus.
RECOMMENDATIONS THAT LEARN FROM YOUR WEEK
Our recommendation now picks up on patterns over the last seven days. A run of low-energy evenings shifts the recommended threshold more decisively, and signals from two days back factor in too. When recent check-ins suggest your threshold may be sitting higher than what's been working for you lately, the Threshold card surfaces a clear note. As always, we never change your number for you.
A FEW MORE FIXES
- Red Energy days now correctly show "Low Energy" on the Forecast (was "Moderate")
- Apple Watch no longer shows the daily energy glow before a heart rate reading
0.9.9 Jun 3
GARMIN SUPPORT IS HERE
Garmin support — connect Garmin Connect to get the same daily energy estimates as Apple Watch and Oura users. Heart rate, HRV, sleep, and recovery data flow securely from Garmin to your phone.
STRONGER PRIVACY FEATURES
Download My Data — get a single-file copy of everything CoPace holds about you, in one tap. Yours to save, share, or move.
In-app Privacy Policy and Terms — read them without leaving the app.
Refreshed Privacy & Data settings — every privacy control in one place.
Stronger Delete All Data & Reset — disconnects your connected wearables, anonymizes any feedback you've shared, and resets the app cleanly.
• Updated Privacy Policy with our new EU Data Protection Representative and clearer language throughout.
0.9.8 May 26
A new way to get help faster.
Settings → Support now has a Support Code you can copy. Paste it into any support email and we can find your anonymous data to answer you faster.
0.9.7 May 12
The Feedback tab no longer holds you hostage.
Open Feedback & Support and the keyboard used to spring up on its own — covering the tab bar so you had no obvious way back out if you'd only come to look around. The keyboard now waits until you actually tap into the message field, and a swipe down on the form dismisses it. Either way, the rest of the app stays one tap away.
0.9.6 May 8
Your "Moving" minutes match what you actually did.
If the Receipt's "Moving" line was reading zero on days you'd clearly been on your feet, that's fixed. It was a math bug that subtracted the same
minutes twice. Open Home → "Today's details" → and the numbers line up with what you really did now.
The Shield clears properly on the iPhone.
End a session on the Watch and the iPhone sometimes kept insisting Shield was still running. The two stay in sync now — even if the Watch app stops cold mid-session.
The Trigger Map is back where it belongs.
The lightbulb icon at the top of the Ledger had gone missing for a version. It's sitting next to the Share icon again.
The Wellness Report is clearer when there's nothing to measure.
In stretches with no reliable activity data — Watch off your wrist, a third-party sync gap — the "Days within budget" reading used to say "0%". That looked like total adherence collapse when it just meant "we couldn't measure." It now shows "—", so anyone reading the report can tell the difference.
Easier to tap.
The chips on the evening check-in — Ill, Meds, Alcohol — are bigger now. Easier on tired hands.
Bigger text still lines up.
At the larger iOS text sizes, today's row in the Ledger used to sit a touch higher than the rows below it. Lined up now.
Snappier when you come back to it.
Switch away from the app and switch back: the Receipt and Forecast update right away instead of waiting on a check that doesn't need to block them.
Plus a handful of quieter reliability fixes — the kind that should fade into the background, which is the point.
0.9.5 May 6
The Wellness Report is here.
You've asked for a way to save or share what CoPace has been seeing in your data. This update delivers it.
Ledger tab → tap the share icon at the top. Pick 30 or 90 days and generate a plain-English PDF of your pacing. Inside you'll find a Week at a Glance summary, rings showing how often you stayed within budget and how consistently you've been checking in, a color-coded calendar of your days, an HRV trend line, the symptoms most often paired with low-HRV days, and a glossary so anyone reading it — you, a family member, someone from your care team — can follow along. Everything is generated on your phone. Nothing leaves until you tap Share.
A calmer Home screen. Your Threshold now sits at the top, where it belongs. Today's details tuck into a "See details" section you can expand or collapse; we remember your choice.
Bigger text, properly. Turn up your text size in iOS Settings and CoPace scales with you — on both your iPhone and Apple Watch.
Onboarding that waits for you. Close the app halfway through setup? When you come back, you're on the same screen, not starting over.
Real help when permissions go sideways. If Apple Health access gets denied, you'll see a step-by-step guide and a "Recheck Permissions" button, not a dead-end alert.
Gentler motion. Turn on Reduce Motion in iOS Accessibility and the animations follow suit.
A plain-English guide to your numbers. Settings → How your numbers work. HRV, resting heart rate, and your daily threshold, without the jargon.
Plus a handful of wording tweaks where the app felt heavier than it needed to.
0.9.4 Apr 28
Shield now detects movement accurately
The Shield can now tell the difference between being active and being still. When your heart rate goes above your ceiling during a walk, you'll see "SLOW DOWN." When your heart rate is elevated while sitting or standing still, you'll see "SIT DOWN." Previously, the Shield was showing "SIT DOWN" for all activity — this has been fixed.
0.9.3 Apr 5
Improved account stability
Your subscription and settings are now better preserved when restoring your device from a backup
Faster launch experience
Premium features load more reliably on startup, even with a slow connection
Fresh install reliability
Setup now flows smoothly on brand-new installs without requiring a second launch
0.9.2 Mar 31
- Your threshold now greets you right when you open the app — no more scrolling to find it
- Switching between Manual and Adaptive mode is just a tap away
- When it's time for your evening check-in, it pops up front and centre so you can log how your day went without hunting for it
0.9.1 Mar 28
Pacing Summary — contextual "Your Week" summary card now appears on the Home screen with insights based on what's actually happening in your data — detected patterns, crash recovery status, or reassurance during steady weeks.
Ledger — redesigned with three tabs
The Ledger is now organized into Overview, Charts, and Days so your data is easier to find and read.
- Charts includes a new HRV Trend chart showing your morning HRV against your 30-day baseline, and a Budget Utilization chart showing how close to your
limit you've been each day. Apple Watch users also see an Orthostatic chart that separates stationary HR spikes from active exertion.
- Days is the familiar day-by-day log, now with a 90-day view option.
Evening check-in — easier to backfill missed days
The date selector is now a prominent card at the top of the check-in screen. Tap it to log for yesterday or any of the past 7 days. Days you've already
logged show a checkmark.
Home screen — simplified
Bug Fixes:
- Shield status stays visible — The app now correctly shows when your Shield is running, even after closing and reopening the app.
- Faster activity updates — Your exertion minutes now appear on your iPhone immediately when you end a Shield session, instead of waiting for health
data to sync.
- Crash recovery alerts — If your Shield stops unexpectedly (due to a Watch restart or low memory), you'll now see a notification on your Watch so you
know to restart it.
- Cleaner workout history — Improved how the Shield cleans up after itself so it's less likely to leave behind unwanted workouts in Apple Health.
0.9.0 Mar 27
- Improved reliability — Background analysis now runs more consistently, even after app restarts
- Better Watch data sync — Heart rate data from Shield sessions is now captured more reliably when the app is in the background
- Subscription stability — Fixed an issue where subscription status could occasionally not sync correctly on first launch
- Diagnostics improvements — The diagnostics screen now shows identity and subscription sync status for easier troubleshooting
0.8.3 Mar 22
We fixed a bug where your minutes over threshold weren't being recorded on Day 2 and beyond. If you use the Apple Watch Shield, your daily activity now syncs reliably every time you open the app — no need to navigate to the Home screen first.
We also fixed a rare issue where stationary elevation minutes from the Watch could be lost if the app was in the background when your session ended.
0.8.2 Mar 19
- Onboarding optimizations
0.8.1 Mar 10
Be gentle with yourself out there.
