Plan the 2027 eclipse — and every eclipse to 2035 — from anywhere. • Eclipse planner: open an eclipse, pick a saved spot or search for any place, and see the contact times on that place's clock, how long totality lasts there, how far you are from the centre line and the edge of the path, where the Sun stands, and how often the sky was clear at that hour over the past ten years. • Make a shot plan from an eclipse and its run sheet is written for you: eye safety first, the filter to pack, a frame interval for the partial phase, when to check focus, when the filter comes off and an exposure ladder for the corona. • Field mode speaks the cues so your eyes stay on the sky, and a Live Activity counts down to totality. • OwlPlot now asks you once to agree to its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, both linked from Settings. • OwlPlot opens faster.

Your saved spots now survive a reinstall — and OwlPlot is ready for bigger screens. • Saved spots, shot plans, cameras, lenses, the cards you wrote and your own run-sheet lines are kept in your own iCloud… • On an iPad, in Split View, or on a wide window, the tab bar becomes a sidebar and text holds to a readable column instead of stretching. Everything you had open stays open as the window changes. • Saved spots can be removed one at a time from Settings, instead of clearing them all. • Fixed: AR Sky could drift over a long night… now corrects its heading whenever you hold the phone still, and tells you when it has not been able to. • Fixed: night vision now turns every window red, not just the one in front. • Fixed: the AR camera preview stays upright when you turn the phone. Requires iOS 18.

• A simpler bar: Sky, Plan and Learn. Sky holds the Sun, the Moon and deep sky behind one control, with AR Sky a button away in the corner. Plan holds everything with a date on it. Learn holds the Field Guide and the calculators together. If you arranged your own bar, it keeps the shape you gave it. • Tonight's exposure: the answer on the sky itself. The verdict for tonight, the settings for the lens in your hand, a night strip to drag, the reference shot as two frames, a timer that fills while the shutter is open — and now the histogram you are judging that test frame against. • Calculators, grouped by what you are out there doing: Astro night, Landscape, Motion and time. Every row your gear can answer shows its number before you open it — the shutter before the stars trail, the hyperfocal distance, the Moon's share of the frame. • Stack for Noise, new: how many frames of the same sky to average so the grain cancels, worked out from your lens, your camera and your sky, with the minutes on the tripod and the card space it costs. • How the night goes: the six steps of an astro night in order — pick the night, set the camera, get focus, shoot the sky, shoot the ground, put them together — each with your numbers and the card that explains it. • Depth of field and focus stacking now reach infinity, which is where an astro frame is actually focused. • A run sheet on every shot plan: the outing as a timeline with tonight's clock times, lines to tick and checks to pass before you move on. Field mode puts it full screen, red on black, counting down to the next cue. • Dark-sky site alerts: tap the bell on a saved place and OwlPlot pushes when tonight there scores Good or better, and again for the best night of the week. • AR Sky: the Milky Way as the ESO photograph, the sky painted for your Bortle class, bright stars as coloured sprites, and your deep-sky targets, comets and ISS passes over the camera. Pinch to zoom to your lens's field, search for anything and follow the arrow to it. • AR Sky, steady: no trembling in the hand, no stutter, no lag on a sweep, and a Calibrate drag that sticks. • A first run: three pages, once, so the app says what it is for before dropping you on Today. • Read aloud: the sun and moon path, the light bar and the brightness curve step under VoiceOver and say where they are — an hour a swipe, a band a swipe. The light bar no longer tells its bands apart by colour alone, and the big numbers hold their shape at a large type size. • Fixed: AR Sky could drift to the wrong side of the sky after a few minutes on a dark site. It checks itself against the motion sensors now and re-seeds.

Your night, as a run sheet. • Run sheet on every shot plan: the outing as a timeline, before you leave, set up, twilight, the dark window, wrap, back home, each with tonight's clock times and the lines that matter with a tick. Every line carries a number, a time, the lens in your bag, a Field Guide card or a check to pass before you move on: a star is a dot at 100%, the histogram hump is in the left third, the highlight alert is on before the aurora clips. • Field mode: the sheet full screen, red on black for dark-adapted eyes, following the clock with a countdown to the next cue, tick targets sized for a cold thumb, and the screen kept awake. • Which lens: every night plan says which of your saved lenses to take, with the NPF shutter for each. • Your own lines: add a line to every plan of a target, "bring the star tracker", and it comes back on the next one. • Phase cues: a notification as twilight ends and before the moon rises, and the whole sheet in the calendar entry. • Six more plan targets: star trails, deep sky, aurora, meteor shower, comet, day to night. • Past plans keep their sheet, show how many lines you ticked and which checks you skipped. • AR Sky at night: Calibrate now offers Polaris on moonless nights, the camera runs at a night exposure after dark so the horizon and the brighter stars show, and a warning tells you when a car or a tripod head is bending the field the compass reads. • The Milky Way, painted: a cloudy, warm band with the real bright stars on it, in place of the stripe and the galaxy picture. • Fixed: AR Sky could drift to the wrong side of the sky after a few minutes on a dark site. It now checks itself against the motion sensors and re-seeds.

UI Fixes

Meet the Field Guide: 65 cards of photography rules, recipes and plain explanations, from Sunny 16 to the 500 rule to reading a histogram. The numbers are live. The reciprocal and 500 rule cards use your camera and lens, Looney 11 uses tonight's moon, Sunny 16 highlights the row for the cloud cover outside right now. The tab opens on Tonight: the card that matters for the sky in front of you. Make any card yours. Copy it, put your own ISO, safety factor or constant in it, add notes. The original stays. Each deck has a three-question quiz. My lens. Add the lenses in your bag, unbranded, from a list of common shapes or your own numbers, and set the one in hand with two rings you turn under a drawing of the lens. Every calculator and rule card opens on that focal length and aperture. Tonight's Card is on Today, in Spotlight and on a home screen widget. Every calculator ends with the cards that explain its number. The Field Guide is one of the default tabs. AR Sky now lives under Settings and can be put back on the bar from there. Settings is regrouped into short sections.

Bug fixes

Tide information

Surf forecasts, now with a full week ahead • Pick any day and hour — the whole screen retimes to it, from the wave animation to the score • Wind for every hour, shown as an arrow you can read at a glance: pointing up means offshore and clean, down means onshore and crumbling • 10-day outlook instead of 3 • Wave scale adapts to the day, so a flat morning still shows its shape instead of eight identical bars • Lakes are treated as lakes — wind waves, not swell, and no tide column that could never have a number in it • Tap the ? to see how to read any of it Make the tab bar yours • Choose which three tabs sit between Today and Settings — swap Sun/Moon or Astro for Surf if that's your thing Privacy • New switch: Settings › Privacy › Share anonymous usage data. Off by default in the EU and UK • Crash reports stay on — they carry nothing about you and are what stop a bug reaching everyone Fixes • Clouds on the home screen were heavier than the forecast actually said • iCloud backup of saved spots and shot plans now works
