CAN - Creative Applications Network (since 2008)
Activity is a whole new way to interact with content, ideas, and each other on CAN. Built on the best ideas of the early web, it focuses on what matters most — our interaction with each other. A live record of what's flowing across our network, out into the world, and back into our community.
——
- Community Activity Feed
See what's happening across the network — new articles, interactive content, events, member activity, comments, channels and more.
- Content Filters
Customise your feed to focus on what matters. Toggle articles, events, member activity, discussions, and archive updates.
- Member Profiles
Discover community members and their work. Bios, locations, websites, and social links.
- Engage & Interact
Post, comment, like, and save articles, events, people, and tools to your personal collection.
- Themes
Seven built-in themes, many others available in the #themes channel, or build your own — synced across the site, app, and widgets.
- Watch App
Activity is on Apple Watch. Live feed, unread indicators, mentions, a 7-day activity graph complication, and background refresh — right from your wrist.
- Thoughtful Details
Greyscale image mode with film grain, haptic feedback, and smooth animations throughout.
- Join from the App
Subscribe to Standard, Supporter, or Studio membership directly — no website needed. Manage your subscription through the App Store.

more What's New in 2.1.1
• Feed load bug fix — loading the feed had become far slower than it should be, in some cases taking 20 seconds or more. We tracked it down: the app was doing a large amount of unnecessary work on every entry as it loaded, and it had been quietly getting worse. The feed now loads dramatically faster, and the app opens way quicker.
• Skills — members can now show what they work with. Skills appear as tags on your profile, on other members' profiles, and in the feed whenever someone updates theirs. You can edit your own from your profile: tap the pencil, remove a tag with the ×, or type to add new ones.
Also included:
- Live embeds that are no longer available now step aside neatly, leaving just the link
- Comment and post bubbles now use correct theme colour
- Various small visual polish and bug fixes
New in V2:
• Search entries and members right from the sidebar
• Join CAN directly from the app: Manage account, renew, request data ++
• Guest Mode: Browse the first page of the feed w/o account
• Faster everywhere: A new session token system
• Smarter login: Log in with your regular website password
• Apple Watch: Mention indicators now included
• Liquid Glass on the floating bar and its menus (optional)
• Polish throughout: quick switch filters, apply themes from feed ++
2.1.1 Aug 3
What's New in 2.1.0
• Search is here — find Activity entries and members right from the sidebar or the floating bar. Build a search with multiple terms, see live results as you type, and jump straight into a thread or profile. Recent searches are saved for quick access.
• Smarter scrolling — after loading a few pages automatically, the feed now pauses and asks if you'd like to keep going, narrow things down with filters, or search instead — so you're never stuck in an endless (doom) scroll.
• Faster threads — opening a thread, especially older ones, was slower than it needed to be. Threads now stay ready-to-serve and refresh only when they actually change, so they open noticeably quicker and jumping into a past conversation feels instant — especially when you find it through search.
• Liquid Glass (iOS 26) — a new appearance option in Settings lets you enable Apple's Liquid Glass look on the floating bar and its menus.
• Stats improvements — 7-day charts now always show the full week in the right order, and totals are calculated more accurately.
Also included:
- Article previews now gracefully fall back if a linked source is temporarily unreachable
- Fixed the Apply Theme button missing from posts in thread view
- Channels list rows now align cleanly
- Widget and Watch app update instantly when you mark entries as read
- Various small visual polish and bug fixes

2.0.1 May 22
Bug fixes, performance and visual improvements.
+ Join CAN directly from the app
You can now subscribe to Standard, Supporter, or Studio membership without leaving your iPhone — straight through the App Store. Renewals supported too.
+ Guest Mode — New
Explore CAN without an account. Browse the first page of the feed, cycle through default themes, and share posts — the app will prompt you to log in when you're ready to do more.
+ Faster everywhere
A new session token system means the app no longer runs a full password check on every request — noticeably quicker on feed loads, and other calls.
+ Registration redesigned
The sign-up flow is completely overhauled — membership cards, real-time username and email availability as you type, and password reveal toggle.
+ Smarter login
Log in with your regular website password — no need to generate an App Password. The login screen pre-fills your username from the last session, with a clear button to switch accounts. "Forgot password?" is now "Need help signing in?" — opens a help sheet with reset, restore, visit the website, and contact options.
+ Apple Watch gets smarter
A new circular complication joins the existing rectangular one. Mention indicators now appear in the watch toolbar and on both watch and lock screen widgets.
+ Polish throughout
Optimistic post deletion, quick switch cached filters, idle timer fixes for video and live streams, apply themes from the feed, corrected launch screen, and a handful of layout fixes across widgets and the floating bar.

2.0.0 May 22
Bug fixes, performance and visual improvements.
+ Watch App — New
Activity is now on Apple Watch. See who's been active, what's been posted, and what's new — right from your wrist. The watch app includes a live activity feed with unread indicators, a companion complication showing your unread count and a 7-day activity graph, and background refresh so your data stays current without opening the app.
+ Floating Bar — New
The New Entry (+) button is now the quick-action bar giving you direct access to all the sections in the app. Long-press the filter icon to set a preferred filter — a single tap applies it instantly from anywhere, or long-press again to change it. Long-press the channel icon for a shortcut list of your five most recently visited channels (most recent first, persisted across sessions). A new "Floating Bar Expanded" setting in App Settings keeps the bar always open.
+ Other
• Large rectangular lock screen widget redesigned — now shows a 7-day activity graph alongside your unread count, weekly average, high, and low; matches the watch complication layout
• Theme, icon, widget, and load-more pickers replaced with smooth inline selectors — fixes a visual glitch on iOS 26 where popup menus appeared in the wrong position
• Header and sidebar panels now align correctly on all devices including Dynamic Island models (iPhone 16 Pro and later)
• Stats screen refreshes automatically when returning to the app after 2+ hours
• Many other small bug fixes and stability improvements
