The same goes when you open the subscription page: whatever you had already said is kept, and it is there when you come back. * Trip ledgers can hold income now: tax refunds and other money that comes back go in under Income when you add an entry. A new line under the trip total shows what came back and your net spend, and that trip's budget gets it back too. * If an amount works out negative, the app asks "Is this money coming back?" One tap logs it as income. The main ledger does the same. * During a free trial, Settings › Member Status shows the day your trial runs until, with Manage Subscription right below it. A clear date makes it easier to try things at your own pace. * The moment a trial starts, the subscription page turns into a flyleaf: "This notebook is yours from today." Pick one of the Inkfolk as your owner's seal and stamp it. To change it later, tap the little seal in Settings and the flyleaf opens again. * A trial pass on the main ledger: the three things it points you to all have something to show right now. * When the trial ends, the app tells you once. Whether you stay or go, every entry is still here. * Voice entry now understands Cantonese: set the app language to Traditional Chinese, then choose it in Settings. * October is Pride month in Taiwan, so the ticket on the app icon wears a rainbow this month. In November it goes back to its usual look. A notebook should understand the way its owner talks.

Hi, it's the minimal developer. Some of you wrote that there weren't enough widgets. Others asked for fixed templates: one tap, and everything is filled in. This version brings both. * Entry templates: save an entry you make all the time as a template, with its category, payment method and account already chosen. Press and hold "+" in the main ledger, tap a template, and all three are filled in — you only type the amount and a note. * Keep up to six templates on one card with six slots: tap a slot to edit it, press and hold to drag it. You can also open it from Settings › Data › Entry templates. * The Quick Add widget holds templates too: square ones are templates, round ones are categories. * A new Budget widget: roughly how much you can spend per day until month end, in one line and one ruler. When the day changes, it moves on to that day's number by itself. * A new Accounts widget: the small one shows just your net worth; the medium one adds your first three accounts. A tap opens Overview. * Halfway through an entry and need to check something in another app? Go ahead. When you come back the entry opens by itself, with the amount, note and photos still there — in every ledger. * The budget card on the main ledger: for a split entry, only your own share counts. * Tap Save & New and the photos clear along with the amount, so the next entry starts on a clean page. Tap a row to change its name, icon or color; long-press to delete. * Sorting you can read at a glance: tap Sort and every row gets ≡ to drag and ↑ ↓ to tap. It saves when you let go, and order only changes within each section. * Picking a category works the same in the main ledger, trip ledgers and shared ledgers: one card, with "+ Add category" everywhere, and a new category is picked for you right away. In trip ledgers, an expense category is ready from the start. * Colors grow from 12 to 24 — twelve new wafu tones such as Koubai, Tsuyukusa and Wakatake. Choosing a color is a floating card too. * Today's Spending in trip ledgers: a foreign-currency entry now has a small "≈" line under the amount in your home currency — just your share, at the rate locked in when you logged it. * Settings › About has a new What's New: every release, one page each. It works offline. * And an App Update row: when a new version is out it says so, and a tap opens the App Store. Categories are like labels on drawers. When the labels are clear, everything is easier to find.

The little card that floats up when you tap an account has grown: transfers, deposits and balance adjustments all happen right on it — no more trips to another page. * Three buttons on the card: Transfer, Deposit / Withdraw and Adjust Balance. Tap one and another card floats up. Pick where the money comes from and where it goes right inside the card; the amount has a calculator. * History: every entry for that account, newest first. Tap one to change it. * Count in net worth, Archive and Delete are on the same card too. * Tap an account in Overview or in Settings › Accounts — it's the same card either way. * Credit cards get a small ⓘ: on the Credit Cards tab in Cards & Loans, and on the credit card section in Overview. It opens "How cards are counted" in seven short lines. Add a card and it shows up under Payment Method when you log. Once a card expires you can't pick it; set a later expiry month and it's back. Archiving or deleting a card never removes past entries. * If you listen with VoiceOver: the handwritten lines in your Journal and in the letters from the developer now read out clean, one line at a time. * A little oiling while I was at it: opening accounts and scrolling history feel lighter, and less common currencies keep up just as well. Cards & Loans gets a new tab too: Loans. * Overview: top left of the main ledger, the third icon — the brown cabinet. It opens a full page: your net worth on top, three tabs below — Accounts, Debts, Next month. When you're done, the house at top left takes you back. * One simple scale: under your net worth, what you still owe on loans sits on the left, and what's left after them on the right. This cycle's card spending is a running total, not debt, so it stays out. * Tap an account and a small card floats up: the converted amount, the change since last month-end, and a "Count in net worth" switch. * Next month: on the left, the money you can move right now; on the right, what's due next month. The two numbers sit side by side — the conclusion is yours to draw. * Where your money is, what's on your cards and what's left on your loans are free to see. The deeper analysis and the Next month tab are Premium. Sections with nothing in them yet aren't veiled — they just sketch what's to come. * Loans: a new tab in Cards & Loans. Enter the loan amount, rate, number of instalments and the first month — that's it. Add the origination fee and the effective rate is worked out for you. Every instalment paid earns a stamp, so what's left and when it ends are clear at a glance. * Thinking of paying off early? Run the numbers first: pick a day and see before and after side by side, lock-in and penalty included. Paying off just part of it works too. Card name, last four digits, statement day, expiry. Pick one of twelve colours and you'll know which card is which at a glance. * This cycle, at a glance: every card shows what's been charged and how many days until it closes, with a running total across all your cards on top. * Tap a card and the whole cycle is there: every charge, how many there are, what the last cycle came to, and how much of it was your own share. Two arrows page you back through earlier cycles — as far back as you have entries. * Your card is there when you log: once you add a card it appears in payment methods, last four digits beside it. Just pick the one you actually used. * It speaks up before the card runs out: once the expiry has passed, that card stops appearing in payment methods. Everything you've already logged stays exactly as it was. Set a later month and it's back. * Put a card away, or remove it: everything you logged stays. It simply stops showing up next time. * One card free; unlimited with Premium. * Names and emoji travel with the person: what you change on this phone reaches your other one, and edits from both sides still merge cleanly. Two things this time: the people in your books got faces, and there's a book inside the app. * Meet the Inkfolk: for trip companions, shared-ledger members and your saved split contacts, tap "Change" and a sticker book opens — women, men, emoji. Tap one and it's on. 36 Inkfolk, each drawn stroke by stroke, no two alike. * The face follows the person: member lists, who paid, who's in, settlements, the ledger chronicle, the trip journal, the travel notebook — you can tell at a glance who logged what. Rather keep things as they are? Do nothing: your emoji stays, now in the same round frame. * Inkfolk are Premium, and you can try one on first: put it on, upgrade when you want to keep it, switch back to an emoji any time. Companions who haven't updated yet see the closest emoji. * The Handbook: at the top of Settings, to the right of the title, you'll now find "Handbook". Tap it and a little notebook floats up. Nine chapters, 102 short entries, three steps at most each, every step with its own hand-drawn picture. Adding an entry, saying one out loud, the Main Ledger, Analysis, Reports, Trips, shared ledgers, Settings, widgets and alerts — flip the index tabs down the side, or just search for the thing you're after. * Swipe the Main Ledger to change the day: swipe right for the day before, left for the day after, and it stops at today. With a date range picked, it moves to the neighbouring range of the same length. The week strip up top still changes whole weeks. (This came from a reader's letter: after changing weeks, going back up to pick a day felt clumsy.) * Trip expenses open the same page from anywhere: from the trip journal, the expense list, the Main Ledger or an account's history — you land on the trip editor, with "Trip expense" and which day of the trip it was right at the top. * Editing an expense in another currency keeps the rate from the day you logged it: fixing a note won't quietly re-run today's rate. Only when you change the currency itself does today's rate step in. * The category chips for pre-trip costs: tap "Tickets" and you get Tickets. In the list, categories you made yourself show their real names and icons. If you installed the app very early on, Travel insurance and Visa quietly join your list. * Trips that haven't started yet take entries now: while the departure is still ahead, tap + and put the deposit and the flights in. * "Home" is now "Main Ledger", in all six languages. It was always a ledger; calling it Home only told you where it sat. Drawing these faces, I kept thinking: the hard part of a ledger was never the numbers. It's the people.

This time, your trip ledger finally lets people in — your companions log the same trip from their own phones. * Invite real companions: tap "Invite companions" at the top right of a trip and send the link or QR code. They tear off the stub to join, then pick themselves on the list. From then on, who paid and who owes what looks the same on everyone's phone — and so does the settlement. * What's yours stays yours: only split expenses sync. The coffee and souvenirs you bought for yourself never leave your phone. * Everyone counts only their own share: trip totals, reports, the map, and the trip card on Home count just the spending that's yours. Splits you're not part of stay out of your ledger; to see them all, open "Splits" in the title bar — the ones without you say "You're not in this one." * Who logged what, at a glance: entries from others show who recorded them, and the "Trip journal" lays out each day — who joined, who added an expense, who changed what — like a travel diary. If a companion uses a category you don't have, it simply shows as theirs; it won't land in your category list. * It's diligent: it checks the moment you open a trip, again every half minute while you stay, and right away when you pull down. No signal? Keep logging — it sends on its own once you're back online. * Not sure where to start? A "Companion guide" now sits at the top left of the trip list: seven short chapters, three minutes. * The net worth card moves above the calendar, with a terracotta curve underneath showing the last six months at a glance. Account management gets the same curve. * One month inside a multi-month budget can now be changed on its own. Want a little extra for the holidays in December? Tap that month and change it — no need to delete the whole budget and start over. * The category part of the budget overview is calmer: folded, it lists only the categories that went over and sums up the rest in one line; unfolded, it follows your own category order, one line each. * In Analysis, each category's amounts now wrap onto two lines, so the budget you set is always fully visible. * Small touches: country and city cards on the trip map now note that the amount is for the whole trip; a custom date range on Home now draws spending only, just like every other day; weather stamps are included in backups; and the Japanese interface got another polish. Keeping books alone is discipline. Keeping them together is chemistry.

It tells you straight — how much per day until month's end — with the fixed charges still on your calendar already taken out. * A new "Budget" tab in Analysis: open any month — say August, budget 30,000, what you spent, which days made the difference — all on one page. Every month of the year gets a little stamp: met, over, in progress. One glance. * Trips keep their own book: switch to "Trips" and you're looking at that trip's budget, counted in the local currency, flights booked before departure included. Where the trip is and where the money is, on the same ruler. * Two books, never mixed: your monthly budget never counts trip spending. If you travelled that month, a quiet line says so — "plus X on trips, not counted here." * One more line in the monthly report: under "The ledger," a budget row shows how the month landed against what you set, in two sentences. * Budgets by category: the total stays, and underneath you can split it — food, transport, each with its own little ruler. Beside each one it notes your average monthly spend over the past six months, so you don't have to guess. * Analysis gets a category section: which one is moving fast, which has room to spare, in one sentence. After three months it'll also tell you how well your budget guesses hold up — and which category could spare a little for another. * Budget management is now a year calendar: twelve months on one page, which ones are set and for how much, with consecutive months joined into one band. Tap a cell to edit or delete; tap an empty one to write a new budget. * Small touch: Analysis remembers which tab you were on. A budget isn't a test. It's a note to yourself.

This version, the app learned two rather human things: drafting your evening for you, and keeping a travel journal. * Goodnight ledger: on a day you forgot to log anything, open the app at night and you'll find someone has already pencilled in a draft — your usual breakfast, that daily coffee, resting lightly on the page. Tap the right ones to ink them in, cross out the wrong ones, stamp the date and say goodnight. Ten seconds, and the day owes you nothing. Keep the reminder on and it'll tell you in the evening: your draft is ready. * Travel journal: every trip is now a little book you can leaf through. A flyleaf with the flag and the flight route, one day per page, every entry written out as a sentence — even the weather gets stamped in, automatically. And once you're home, the back cover pastes in the ticket stub: one number, what the whole trip cost, kept safe. * The trips book: all your trips, bound in one. Finished ones become ticket stubs sorted by year; the one you're on says "still on the road, day three"; the ones ahead wait with an unstamped seal. Hi, it's the Minimal developer. Small release this time. Two things — but I want to be clear about both. * Your travel footprint now shows itself first. The map is clear — every place you've been, every flag you've planted, right there. The amounts stay behind a soft blur until you unlock them. The trip recap opens up the same way. * The things you pay for before you leave — flights, hotels — now say their amount in the trip's own currency underneath. Book a room in dollars on a euro trip, and it tells you roughly what that is in euros. Add the lines up and you land exactly on the subtotal above. * I've put a small counter by the door. It chimes at most once a day, and all it ever says is "someone came in today" — it doesn't remember who you are and it can't see your ledger. It's how I find out which screen people stop on. Whichever screen that is, it's usually the one I should make nicer next. A small one. But that number finally speaks the right language.

The moment I think of something I want to build it, and the moment it works I want it in your hands. If the notifications feel frequent, please bear with me. Every version only carries things I want to use myself. This one re-bound the whole journal. * The calendar is redrawn: no more of the system's blue one. No boxes — the numbers sit straight on the paper, one thin rule between each week, the way a real monthly page looks. * The day you pick wears a hand-drawn red circle, as if you'd ringed it with a pen. Days you wrote on keep a small dot beneath the number; if today is still blank, that dot is hollow — waiting for you. * Choosing a period was rebuilt too: today, this week, this month… each one now says underneath exactly which dates it means. Nobody remembers whether "last 7 days" includes today. * Trips are ticket stubs now: the stub on the right carries what that trip cost. For trips abroad, a second line tells you roughly what that is in the currency you normally use. * A trip's stage reads at a glance: not left yet, on the road, already home — and every page now says the same thing. * Shared ledgers wear washi tape: one colour per book, and a column on the right for who's in it. The ones you started carry a small celadon seal. * When you delete something, what appears is no longer a system alert but a card from the journal — one question, one consequence, two buttons. * The date picker in Analysis and in your travel map is now that same piece of paper. Front to back, one voice at last. When you open it, I hope every page looks like the same book.

A trip paid for, written down — the icon finally wears the same clothes as the journal inside. * Say several in one breath: "Breakfast 8, lunch 12, dinner with friends 45" — three entries, each with its own category, payment method and time. * Pause to think, that's fine. A pause reads as a comma, not a full stop. Whatever you said before is still there. * The words appear as you speak — and as the journal writes, you can feel the pen touch the paper under your fingertip. * It fills in the rest: say "lunch 12 yesterday on my card" and the date and payment method settle themselves. Didn't mention how you paid? It picks the one you use most. * The entry buttons follow your hand: left, center or right — whichever side your thumb likes (Settings → What you see). * Accounts and recurring costs now greet you with a total first: your net worth, your fixed monthly spend — the whole picture, then the details. One entry at a time is free. Saying several in one go and having them pulled apart is the Premium part. Finish the sentence, and it's already written down.

Now they tell you whether that's fast or slow — compared to your own usual. * Weekly report, three new sections: when you actually log things, how this week compares to your usual week, and what all the small change adds up to. * Monthly report, four new sections: counts as well as amounts, how complete your ledger is, how much of this month was already decided, and which fixed cost quietly went up. * Insights, three new sections: what's still uncategorised, which category is running faster than usual, and what started becoming a monthly bill in the last six months. * Shared ledgers now keep a chronicle: who recorded or changed what, and when. Both of you can see it. * Shared ledgers got more diligent. They used to wait for a nudge; now they look on their own — when you open the app, open the ledger, pull down, or just sit on that page. Whatever the other person wrote a moment ago is already there when you look up. * And if iCloud runs out of room, it tells you where to clear a little. A shared ledger takes up less space than one photo. * Shared fund entries can be edited now. Before, a typo meant deleting and starting over. * Added an undo: if you restore the wrong backup, you have seven days to go back. * Three bugs caught: the closing line repeated itself when browsing past months, the days-logged count was wrong, and fixed costs were leaking into your logging habits. The reports got thicker, but a section with nothing to say still won't show up. That part hasn't changed.

Shared ledgers are here — still in beta, so I wanted to say that up front. * Shared ledgers: keep one ledger with family, a friend, or your partner. Send them a link and you're in — no account, no friend requests. Every entry either of you logs shows up on both phones. * Shared money is kept apart: it never mixes into your own ledger. Your reports, budget and analysis stay exactly as clean as before. * Recurring items now do quarterly, half-yearly and yearly, not just monthly. Set that annual insurance once and forget it. * Fixed costs in reports are now a monthly average: a $360 yearly bill counts as $30 a month, so the percentage finally makes sense. * The weekly and monthly report entries now sit side by side as two small cards. Much more room to breathe. * Two bugs caught: a far-off end date used to write dozens of future entries into your ledger all at once, and list cards were missing a bite out of each corner. Shared ledgers just learned to walk and still trip now and then. If something looks odd, write to me from inside the app.

Hi, it's the Minimal Developer. No new features this time. The whole release is about letting Deep Insights sit still. * Deep Insights stops restarting itself: open it, read at your own pace — and every half minute it used to quietly reload from scratch and send your scroll position back to the top. I finally caught why. While adding up your money it was also writing things in the background, and each write knocked the page over. It only reads now. * Easier on battery and data: with no connection (flight mode, abroad, a locked-down office network) it kept retrying the same request — over 300 times in 25 seconds, measured. Now one failure buys a minute of quiet. * Two share buttons put away: the one in Deep Insights, and the one on "The one who logs" in the monthly report. "Share this month" at the end of the report stays. One per report is enough. That's the report. Sometimes the way to make something better is to take things out.

Hi, it's the Minimal Developer. Rather a lot this time. In one line: your ledger has started talking back. * A weekly report, every Monday: where last week went, how many days you logged. It shows up on its own. No waiting for month end. * A thicker monthly report: new "An ordinary month" separates trips and big one-offs from the rest; "The one who logs" shows what time of day you tend to write things down; and it now compares against the same month last year. It also picks one note you wrote yourself and prints it, word for word. * Deep Insights, rebuilt: it now answers just two things — how far into the month you are (measured against your own past months on the same day, not against other people), and the days left (what's still going to be charged before month end). You can open it without a subscription. * Your ledger is searchable: search came to the transaction timeline, and matched words get underlined so you can see why a record turned up. * Trip ticket stub: when a trip ends, a stub appears in your ledger — departure, return, and how much you logged. Tap to look back, or tear it off. During a trial there's also a short checklist of what you haven't tried yet. * Tidying up: two phrases were missing their translations, so non-Chinese readers saw Chinese; and a few lines in Settings even I couldn't understand, now written in plain words. That's the report. One thing I learned building it: keep a ledger long enough and the numbers start speaking for themselves.

Skip it and everything works exactly like before. * Transfer, deposit, adjust: Move money between accounts, withdraw cash for later, or adjust a balance that drifted—none of it touches your spending stats. Clean numbers, always. * Net worth at a glance: A new card on your home ledger totals all accounts in your main currency. Don't want it?
