Hear PDFs, ebooks, articles and scans read aloud in natural voices — privately, on your device. New: try Aloudia Plus free for 7 days with the yearly plan.
Aloudia reads anything aloud in natural voices, right on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. PDFs, ebooks, web articles and scanned pages become audio you can listen to anywhere. No account, and nothing you read is uploaded.
ADD ANYTHING YOU READ
• Import PDF, EPUB, Word (DOCX), ODT, RTF, Markdown, HTML and plain text, FB2 and DRM-free MOBI and AZW3 ebooks, and CBZ comics.
• Paste a link to add a web article, share a page from Safari, or use the "Read in Aloudia" Safari extension on the page you're on.
• Scan printed pages with your camera on iPhone and iPad. The text is recognized on your device.
• Explore Ebooks: browse nearly 2,000 classic books in six languages and add one in a tap.
PRIVATE, OFFLINE VOICES
• Voices in 44 languages: Apple's system voices plus offline voice models you download once.
• A free English voice is built in, so you can listen offline from the first launch.
• Reads like a person: chapter headings are announced, poems keep their lines, and numbers, dates, addresses and units are read the way you would say them.
LISTEN AND FOLLOW ALONG
• The sentence is shaded and each word lights up as it is read.
• Auto Skip passes over URLs, bracketed text and citations.
• Skip forward or back into audio Aloudia has already made, and it plays almost at once.
• Speeds mean real pace: 1.5× really reads one and a half times as fast.
• Read your way: Light, Dark or Match System, and two pages side by side on iPhone Duo.
• Keep listening in other apps and from the lock screen, with Control Center and, on Mac, the media keys. Your place is saved in every document.
AI SUMMARIES AND ANSWERS, ON YOUR DEVICE
Summarize an article, a chapter or a whole book, and ask questions whose answers quote the text. It all happens on your device: with Apple Intelligence where it is available, or, for English, German and Arabic documents, with Aloudia's own AI model, an optional one-time download. Your documents are never uploaded.
FREE, OR ALOUDIA PLUS
Aloudia is free to download and use, with a daily listening limit, a daily limit on imports and scans, Apple's system voices and a free offline voice. Aloudia Plus, as a monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time Lifetime purchase, adds:
• Unlimited listening
• Unlimited imports and scans
• The full offline voice library, including the multilingual Supertonic voice (31 languages) and Kokoro voices. Supertonic and Kokoro need an iPhone or iPad with 6 GB of RAM or more; on other devices Plus unlocks every Piper voice, in every language.
• Audio export: make an audiobook or podcast-style audio with chapters, title, author and cover.

The pacing in the paid version is much nicer than the free version and I love the privacy policy but a few issues make this difficult for me. A) pronunciation: river is not one who rends, but a flowing body of water. Record/record are two words that need to be separated by context, etc. not sure if this is a function of the original language trained on or what. B) Skipped words: happens semi randomly and does not repeat if the same sentence is replayed. Slower would be better than missingC) Power usage and heat. It’s livable, but I have to charge by the end of the day. So will I keep it after my month is up? I’m of two minds really. It’s nice for ebooks that don’t have audio versions in particular, but scientific articles at work are far beyond it at this point. Let me know where you come down on this.
Developer Response
Thank you for such a detailed and thoughtful review. It's exactly the kind of feedback that helps us improve. Since version 1.4.1 we've done a lot of work on what you described: pronunciation has been reworked, including words like "record" whose sound depends on context, and we found and fixed causes of skipped words. Because everything runs privately on your phone, speed, battery use and heat can vary from device to device, and we keep tuning Aloudia to give every user the best experience their phone allows. We'd really like to help you get the most out of it. Please email us at support@aloudia.app with your phone model and, if you can, an article that gave you trouble, and we'll look into it personally. — The Aloudia team

I'll give to your male free default English voice is the best at pronunciation. Female voices though have a funny reverb echo going on for no reason. Two I have encounter actually text skips that are not applicable to your skippable requirements whole actually reading material sentences have been skipped in my last reading of my last document and your scans accurately scanned them but the voice isn't behaving properly.
Developer Response
Thank you for taking the time to share this, and we're glad you like the default English voice! We're sorry some sentences were skipped. That shouldn't happen, and since version 1.4.1 we've fixed several causes of skipped text, so the latest update should read much more reliably. We're constantly improving our voices and how text is processed, and because everything runs on your phone, results can differ between devices. We'd love to look at your case directly: please email support@aloudia.app and tell us which female voice had the echo and what you were reading, and we'll do our best to make it right for you.— The Aloudia team
