BytePad 3.0 is the biggest update yet. Almost every part of the app was rebuilt, refined, or made faster. TEN THEMES, ONE COHERENT LOOK Four new palettes join the originals: One Dark, Dracula, Nord, and GitHub. The entire window now re-tints to match your theme, including the sidebar, tabs, and status bar. Every palette is hand-tuned for both light and dark mode, with much better light-mode contrast. MORE LANGUAGES, SMARTER DETECTION Swift syntax highlighting is here, bringing the total to 19 languages. A new Code mode detects the language automatically when you open a file and shows you what it found. BUILT FOR HUGE FILES A new large-file engine opens giant logs and data exports instantly. Typing stays responsive, scrolling stays smooth, and line numbers keep up even in documents with millions of lines. Saving now happens in the background, so nothing blocks your work. A PROFESSIONAL DIFF VIEW The diff checker was rewritten from scratch. Compare any two files side by side with perfectly aligned panes, real line numbers on both sides, hatched blocks where lines were added or removed, and word-level highlighting inside changed lines. Jump straight to the next or previous change, or use the overview strip to see every change at a glance. A BETTER SIDEBAR The workspace sidebar now has collapsible Open Editors and file tree sections, drag to resize with the width remembered between launches, fast search across your whole workspace, and a full right-click menu: New File, New Folder, Reveal in Finder, Copy Path, Rename, and Move to Trash. OPEN ANYTHING Drop any file on the window or the Dock icon and it opens. Unknown formats open as plain text instead of refusing. Drop a folder and it becomes your workspace. You can also right-click any file or folder in Finder and choose Open in BytePad. NEVER LOSE YOUR PLACE Files edited by another app now reload automatically, and your unsaved changes always win. There is a new Open Recent menu, and Shift+Command+T brings back the tab you just closed. FASTER EDITING Duplicate a line with Command+D, delete with Control+Shift+K, move lines with Option+Up and Option+Down, join with Control+J, and jump anywhere with Command+L. REFINEMENTS EVERYWHERE A zoom picker in the status bar from 50 to 250 percent. Saving that honors the encoding and line ending you choose. Helpful tooltips on every control. Smoother animations throughout. The Text Calculator gained an Example button that loads a live playground, plus roomier spacing. What's New Faster, smoother, and a few long-requested touches. • Major performance overhaul. Typing in large files is dramatically smoother. We rewrote the line-number gutter, status bar, and document syncing to do far less work on every keystroke and moved session autosave off the main thread, so you'll never feel the app pause while it saves in the background. Opening big files no longer freezes the window thanks to on-demand text layout. • Find & Replace. Press ⇧⌘F to bring up Find and Replace in the same panel as Find. Enter replaces the current match; "All" replaces every match. • Drag and drop any file. Drop any file onto BytePad to open it. Even files with unknown extensions or binary content. Unrecognized formats open as plain text instead of refusing to open. • Cleaner start. Side panels now start collapsed when you launch the app, giving the editor the full window from the moment it opens. Toggle them back any time with ⌘1 and ⌘2. • Smaller fixes throughout. Reduced redundant redraws, tightened up text-input handling, and cut a number of background scans that were running on every keystroke.
