OptiRun BASE+
Training load & readiness
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
OptiRun BASE is a training management platform for distance running coaches and their teams.
Instead of one more log book, it turns everyday training into decisions: how hard the squad is working, who is drifting toward injury, and when to start the taper so athletes peak on race day.
WHAT IT DOES
Training load, made readable
Record distance, pace and session RPE. OptiRun BASE computes acute:chronic workload ratio and flags sudden spikes in distance, so a rise in load never goes unnoticed.
Daily condition monitoring
Athletes log sleep, fatigue, soreness, body weight and resting heart rate in under a minute. Trends surface early, before they become injuries.
Energy availability
Track nutrition alongside training to catch low energy availability, with food frequency questionnaires and optional menstrual cycle tracking.
Tapering that adapts
Set a target race and OptiRun BASE builds a taper for each athlete, evaluates how the taper is actually going, and suggests the day's distance each morning.
A coach dashboard that fits a squad
See load, condition and injury risk for every athlete on one screen, compare sessions, and share feedback with the team.
Devices that do the typing
Automatic sync with Garmin, Strava, COROS, Polar and Apple Health. Laps, heart-rate zones and sleep arrive on their own. Apple Watch supported.
Records and testing
Personal bests with progression, race results, lab tests, blood work and body composition over time.
PRICING
Free for teams of up to 5 athletes. Paid plans are priced per athlete, so a small club pays like a small club.
BUILT FOR
Distance running coaches, club and corporate teams, and self-coached runners who train seriously.

more - Practice notes: each workout on your schedule now has "Add practice notes". Paste the session details from your coach (menu, settings, weather, splits) and look back at them later in your training log.
- Coach session notes: when a coach writes session notes on a team menu, they appear in the schedule of every athlete who received that menu.
- Condition log: fixed an issue where you could not save, without a clear reason, if fatigue, sleep quality or mood on the first screen was left blank. Missing items are now shown in red.
- Schedule: fixed team menus and events sometimes not showing for athletes who belong to more than one team.
- You can now add practice notes from the training log list too.
5.0.13 5h ago
- Swim is now available as a training type.
- Swimming workouts imported from Health are recorded as Swim.
- Swim distance is not counted in the distance-based ACWR or your running distance (it still counts toward time x RPE load).
- The distance-based ACWR is now calculated from your running distance only, including warm-up and cool-down.
- Coaches can now switch the ACWR in the athlete detail screen between sRPE, HR-TRIMP and distance.
- Training names: give a session a name like "400m×10 + 8000m PR". It appears as the title on your schedule and log list (imported workouts no longer all show as "Run").
- Monthly report: when a report arrives, a card on your dashboard reminds you to reflect and set next month's goal.
- The training completion rate is now always shown in the athlete's monthly report.
5.0.11 1d ago
- Tapering: the race-eve TSB forecast is now calibrated to past race results, and the readiness monitor shows a likely range.
- New taper plans default to the shallowest length and load that land the race eve in the target range.
- Final-day load can now be set and auto-adjusted up to 100%.
- Fixed: entering a race result from Edit in the race list now updates your personal best and shows the PB comparison.
- Personal bests and goal times are now entered in separate minute / second / hundredths fields (hours for half and marathon), with a preview of the saved value.
- Before saving, you are asked to confirm times that look impossible for the event or differ greatly from your previous best.
- You are also warned when the race name's distance does not match the event.
- Race walking: 5000mW, 10000mW, 20kmW and 35kmW are now available as race events.
- Race walk results are no longer compared with running personal bests, PB gains or race predictions.
- You are notified when a race walk race is registered with a running event.
5.0.9 3d ago
- Analysis Canvas: pick two metrics and compare them as a scatter plot, by range, or over time
- Coaches: profile photos in the athlete list, with the ring color showing overall condition; blood tests as charts and tables
- Overall condition review: sleep averaging 6-7h is Caution (under 6h is Warning); shorter runs no longer count; bone load is evaluated after 5 weeks of records and stays at Caution unless other signals agree
- Improved menstrual cycle calculations
- Training records now show the data source (Strava, COROS, etc.) and device name
- Fixed lap numbers for Strava activities starting at 0
- Coaches: weekly load in athlete details now shows both AU (from RPE) and TRIMP (from heart rate)
- Tapering: for races without a saved taper plan, the readiness monitor and guide now use the same fitness-based default as race detail, so the predicted race-eve TSB matches across screens
5.0.5 4d ago
- Coaches: new "Periodization" in the side menu (Training design). Set your team's annual periodization and per-athlete periodization; an athlete's own setting overrides the team's
- Athletes: your annual periodization is now saved to your account, so periodization set by your coach is reflected too (periodization saved on this device is moved over automatically the first time)
- Easier team invites: the invite code and a share button now appear right after creating a team and on the invite screen. Onboarding no longer stops when the team is over its limit
- Pricing now shows the new flat rates by team size. During a trial, "No member limit" and the days left are shown
- Only the team owner can now change the team name and team type
- The taper monitor on the dashboard no longer shows an overall rating (running less is expected during a taper)
- The cumulative impact load card now matches the width of the other cards
- The in-app guide now gives more specific answers, using the predicted race time (with a range) and your current form (TSB) calculated by the app
5.0.1 5d ago
- Your care buddy, the deer, now gives a one-line tip for today based on your overall condition records (e.g. "Let's ease off a bit today.", "Let's get to bed early tonight.")
- A short reason is shown right under the tip (e.g. "Leg load up 45% vs a usual week")
- Tap "More" in the speech bubble to see the reasons and what you can do today
- Shown for individual users. For teams, it appears once the coach turns it on in Settings
- You can hide tips with "Care buddy tips" in the dashboard display settings
- New in-app guide: ask how to use the app or where a screen is, from "Ask (your buddy) how to use" in the side menu or "Ask a question" in the care room. Coaches can use "Ask the guide" in the menu
- Tap "Open ..." under the answer to jump to that screen
- Lactate curve test: prepare a test and send it to your watch (athletes can do this from Lab Tests). RPE at LT1/LT2 is now shown
4.9.40 Oct 7
- Race result share images can now use your own photo as the background
- Choose from three looks: Sticker, Data Panel, and Numbers Panel
- Data Panel shows a chart of your daily running distance during the taper (the lighter days before the race)
- Show laps and heart rate only when you want them
- On supported devices, the person in your photo can be placed in front of the text and chart for a sense of depth
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where races written in miles (e.g. "100 miles") could be read as 100 m
4.9.39 Oct 6
- After you save a race result, a share image and caption are now created automatically. Pick a layout (Stories, square and more) and a color, then save or post it. You can turn off the automatic screen with the switch on that screen.
- Added a "Share result" button to race details so you can open the same screen later.
- Race details now show predicted finish times by your form the day before the race. The race readiness monitor also shows the prediction if your form lands in the target range.
- Race results are now entered in separate number fields that match the event, so input mistakes are easier to catch.
- Updated how taper evaluations are scored. Races with too few records now show "Not rated" along with the reason.
- During the taper, the final-day load can now be adjusted automatically based on how you felt the day before (you can turn this off from the race screen).
- When you are offline, a notice now appears at the top of the screen, and if a record cannot be saved we explain why clearly (your entries are kept).
- Fixed the taper review sometimes showing 0% versus your personal best the first time you entered a race result.
- Minor bug fixes.
4.9.38 Oct 6
- Fixed an issue where the same taper notification was shown repeatedly during the taper period.
- Added a memo field to condition logs. Memos are shown in your condition history.
- The condition score is now shown on a 100-point scale.
- Minor bug fixes.
4.9.37 Oct 3
- Taper plans now start from defaults that match your training volume. During the taper, the final-day load is adjusted automatically each day so that your form on the day before the race lands near the target (new plans).
- Race time predictions are now based on your past results and shown as a range. You can also set the race type (time trial / championship).
- Taper scores now show "Not enough data" for races less than 60 days after your load data began.
- The race list now shows a card to add your personal best when it is missing for an event you are entered in.
- Fixed Japanese names from Sign in with Apple being saved in given-family order. Affected users will be asked once to confirm the order.
- Ground contact time balance measured with supported Garmin and COROS sensors is now shown on the running form screen.
- Trainers and coaches can now attach photos and videos to care reports, and care reports can be deleted.
4.9.36 Oct 2
- After a workout is imported from your watch, you now get a notification asking how hard it was (RPE). Long-press it to log 1-10 without opening the app, or tap Easy / Moderately hard / Hard on Apple Watch. You can turn it off in Settings.
- The race readiness monitor is now part of the Next race card, so you can see your form at a glance.
- Fixed the day-before form forecast coming out far too high because days before the taper were treated as rest.
- A day-before form above the guide (-15 to +15) is now shown as "Acceptable range" up to +30.
- The taper "freshness" score now rates whether your pre-race form landed in the target range. Races with too few logs show "Not rated".
- Meal entries are now saved as drafts, and you can log meals for other days.
- Added a Supplements section below Snacks. Save your usual supplements and log them with one tap.
- Fixed workouts imported from Apple Health or FIT files being treated as if RPE had been entered.
- Update announcements now show the key points at a glance.
- Taper plans now start with a length and final load matched to your recent training volume, and adjust themselves once a day as your training changes. Values you enter yourself are never overwritten.
- Race times are now predicted from your personal best and your past race results, and are shown with the range that 8 out of 10 races fall into rather than a single number.
- When you add a race you can now mark it as a time trial or a championship. Races where you chase a place are harder to predict, so the range is shown wider.
4.9.35 Sep 29
- Fitness components are now split using paces from your lactate test or personal bests instead of watch heart-rate zones. If you have neither, you are prompted to register a personal best of 1500 m or longer.
- Fixed COROS short strides and sprints showing calories 1000 times too high.
- Fixed the Library button opening the camera when adding a meal photo.
- Improved race lap entry: unreadable rows are flagged before saving, and tenths of a second are kept.
- Pace-zone estimates are now calibrated against lactate test data, and race results from the past year take priority over older personal bests.
- Taper target updated to a pre-race form of -15 to +15, the range where races in the app tended to go best. Race reviews now show whether you were on target, still fatigued or over-rested.
- New race readiness monitor: see your current form and the day-before forecast against the target, with advice on how to adjust. Coaches see a list of athletes racing soon.
4.9.34 Sep 28
- New race review: see your time and PB comparison together with your taper score, taper days and how much you cut your training volume, your lap times and heart rate during the race, and your fitness as of the day before (fitness, fatigue, form, and the aerobic / high-intensity / neuromuscular mix).
- Pick 2 to 4 past races and compare them side by side to see which state produced which time.
- Enter lap times for your race results, one by one or by pasting a whole lap list at once.
- Self medical check: redrawn measurement guides that show exactly where to place the phone or ruler. The triage now also considers the painful area, past injuries and range of motion, and gives advice for that area.
- If your taper went well but the result did not, the app now suggests what to review: race tactics, pre-race nutrition, sleep and health, and the weather.
- Coaches: choose which athletes stay visible after the trial ends.
- Science columns: fixed a purchase screen showing for people who subscribed on the web.
- Work together with dietitians and trainers: invite "Medical staff" and "Nutrition staff" to your team. What each role can see is separated by role.
- Log each meal as you eat it. See your remaining energy target and a suggested rice amount for your next meal. Rice and supplements can be logged too.
- See 20 nutrients (vitamins, minerals and more) from your meals. Packaged foods can be logged by photographing the nutrition label.
- Low energy availability is now flagged as caution after 3 days, warning after 1 week and high risk after 2 weeks, shown together with your mood score for that period.
4.9.33 Sep 26
- Energy availability (EA) now uses the energy burned in workouts imported from your watch, so values are closer to reality.
- When EA is low for just one day, it is now shown gently as "A bit low today". You will be alerted if it stays low for two days in a row.
4.9.31 Sep 25
Fitness by physical quality now matches between athlete and coach views
The same athlete over the same period could show different numbers on the athlete screen and the coach screen, because one used measured heart-rate zones and the other fell back to an estimate from the session type. Both now use the same calculation. You can also switch the window (90 / 180 / 365 days). Values are relative to the highest point within that window, shown as 100.
Fixed streaks resetting unexpectedly
Recording every day could still reset your streak to 1. Sessions saved early in the morning were sometimes stored under the previous day. Existing records have been corrected as well.
Fixed rankings being empty on Mondays
Rankings showed "no data" every Monday. Until the new week is tallied, we now show the last completed week, and the screen states which week you are looking at.
Other improvements
- Fixed deleted training records still appearing in the list
- Tidied the spacing around titles on coach screens to match the athlete screens
- Unified distance formatting. Miles are used when the app is in English
4.9.30 Sep 21
Fatigue ratings now account for how you personally rate
People use the fatigue scale differently: some always rate high, others always rate low. Until now everyone was measured against the same absolute scale, so athletes who habitually rate high were more likely to be judged as "not recovered". From this version your own usual rating is the reference, and what matters is whether you are lighter or heavier than usual.
This also makes it harder to miss the day when someone who normally rates low is unusually tired.
Other improvements
- Fixed cases where the condition records from the time of a past race were not reflected in its evaluation
- When your form (TSB) sits close to a threshold, we now say so. Normal day-to-day variation can flip it to the neighbouring state
4.9.29 Sep 20
More accurate training load
Until now, sessions imported from a watch counted as RPE 5 even when you had not rated them, which inflated your load. From this version your own rating is used first; if you have not rated a session, the load is estimated from heart rate instead. Sessions with neither are left out of the calculation.
Note: fitness, fatigue and form may now read lower than before. The previous figures were overstated; these are closer to reality.
Log your treatment visits
Record the days you visit a hospital or clinic. Noting what you were told and whether you can train helps your coach decide what is safe. Add the cost and it carries over to the expense summary when the injury resolves. You choose whether to share each report, and you can keep the amount private.
See which watches are supported, up front
Onboarding now shows that Garmin, COROS, Strava and Polar are supported.
Steeplechase and ultra personal bests
Record 3000mSC separately from the flat 3000m. Previously a steeplechase result was compared against your flat PB, which made the evaluation look far worse than it was; this is now fixed. 50km, 100km, 100 miles and 24-hour runs can also be recorded. Only the events you list as your specialty are shown.
Plan your own sessions
Add self-directed sessions alongside your coach's plan. They are marked "Self-directed" on the calendar and are not counted in the completion rate.
A reminder on your treatment day
Enter your next appointment and you get a reminder that morning. When you log a visit, your coach is notified too if you chose to share it.
Understand the form forecast
A new guide explains what each number means and when the detailed forecast appears (based on how many days you trained in the last 42). It also shows how many more days are needed.
Other improvements
- Fixed parts of onboarding that stayed in Japanese in the English UI
- The training calendar now shows sessions by name, such as "400m x 6 x 2set"
- Tap a day to see its lap times and heart rate
- Fixed taper plans for past races showing "Not recorded" even when the sessions existed
- Fixed the schedule showing 0 km for an earlier year even when sessions existed
- Fixed the launch animation being cut off at the bottom of the screen
- The taper plan now shows how far you actually ran each day, next to the planned distance
- Fixed the taper baseline distance: deleted sessions and bike distance could be counted, making the plan thinner than it should be
- Registering a race early no longer freezes the taper baseline at that moment. Until the taper starts it follows your last three weeks of training; from the taper start it is fixed
4.9.28 Sep 19
Monthly reports are now available to athletes
Pick a card, leave a comment, and talk it through with your coach. You are notified when each month is ready.
Set next month's goal
Right after reading the report, decide what to measure, the target number and the deadline. You get a heads-up if the target is far from last month's result.
A deeper race review
Race results now show the taper evaluation alongside them, so you can see whether the taper worked. A day-by-day log covers the whole month: planned session, what you actually did, distance, weight and fatigue in one table.
Athlete calendar
Coaches can now open an athlete's calendar and tap a day to see lap times and heart rate.
Build workouts in blocks
Assemble warm-up, intervals and strides, then send the session to the athlete watch. Sending now requires the athlete consent.
Make the home screen yours
Choose which cards to show. A fatigue index has been added.
Other improvements
- An introduction screen when you first open the app
- Records whose distance and time do not add up are flagged for review
- Larger, easier-to-read text in the comment section
4.9.27 Sep 17
- Unified how race times are written and fixed a misreading of results. Middle-distance times were being read as hours, which fed wrong values into personal bests, WA scores and taper evaluations. Past records have been corrected as well.
- Race times are now entered digit by digit, showing only the fields the event needs.
- Races past their date with no result are surfaced at the top of the list so you can enter the time right away.
- Added a logo animation on launch.
- Device Integration now shows the last synced date for each data type.
- Fixed Japanese text appearing in some English screens.
4.9.24 Sep 13
- Each race can now be marked as "tapered" or "part of training". Races run without tapering no longer show a daily plan or reminders, while results and condition data are still kept so you can compare them with tapered races later.
- Added a dedicated tapering widget showing days remaining until your next race and today's target distance.
- You can now name your self-care companion from its room. The name appears on the home screen and in the morning reminder.
- Messages from coaches now show who sent them, and a notification is delivered on arrival.
- Monthly reports now include per-athlete reports, with days at potential risk broken down into training, sleep and energy (for coaches).
4.9.21 Sep 11
Announcements
- Fixed an issue where the same announcement reappeared every time you opened the app. Closing it now marks it as read.
- Announcements published before you joined are no longer shown at startup. You can still read them from the announcements list.
4.9.20 Sep 9
Meal logging
- You can now choose "photo" or "quick pick" for each meal. Quick pick for breakfast and lunch, a photo for dinner, and so on.
- Fixed an issue where meals entered with quick pick were left out of the daily total whenever a photo or hand-entered meal was also logged.
Medical
- Fixed an issue where injury and illness records did not appear in the medical list, showing "no records" instead.
Coach view
- Fixed an issue where the nutrition screen could fail to load and show no athletes.
Self-care
- Fixed an issue where the screen could freeze during logging and could not be closed.
Training log
- You can now write notes for a session directly from the history list.
Other
- Account passwords now require at least 8 characters, for better security.
- Fixed a layout issue on the display units card.
4.9.19 Sep 8
Health data import now lets you choose which day to import. It was previously fixed to the current day, so you can now go back and bring in earlier records.
Other
- Fixed some labels still showing Japanese when the app language is set to English
- Stability improvements
4.9.18 Sep 7
Training history now keeps a fixed order (newest first within each day) on both athlete and coach screens. Entering RPE no longer reorders the list.
Jump testing
- Fixed CMJ results not being saved
- Added a per-rep entry mode for rebound jumps and history trend charts
- Fixed oversized height correction in slow-motion analysis
- Live measurement now shows the effective frame rate with improved accuracy
Other
- Stability improvements
4.9.17 Sep 5
New: training comparison by date + custom athlete selection (with saved groups); monthly team report viewer for coaches; compact roster view for large teams; expanded tapering modes (static/dynamic) with fatigue-based auto adjustment.
Improvements: race registration tapering inputs, stability.
4.9.16 Sep 4
- Practice notes: each workout on your schedule now has "Add practice notes".
