CleanLock locks your Mac's keyboard, trackpad clicks and every connected display while you clean. Wipe the keys and the screen, then carry on where you left off. Nothing gets typed, nothing gets closed.
Pick a cleaning time in the menu bar, or press Control-Option-Command-L in any app. A full-screen lock covers all your displays. Keystrokes and clicks are ignored until the time runs out or you unlock it your way.
Lock
- Keyboard and trackpad together: key presses, including Command, Option and Control, and clicks
- Every connected display is covered, so nothing slips into another app through a second monitor
- 15 or 30 seconds, 1, 2 or 5 minutes, or ∞ to stay locked until you unlock (with a 30-minute safety limit)
- A progress ring shows the cleaning time left
Screen Clean mode
On pure black, dust is easy to see. Right-click to switch to white and find fingerprints and smudges. The text fades after a few seconds and comes back when you press a key or click.
Keyboard Test
After cleaning, press every key once. Keys that light up work; keys that stay grey may need another look.
Four ways to unlock
- ESC three times
- Timed click: three clicks at the interval you set
- Three numbered dots, tapped in order
- A key combination you record yourself
Preview the lock screen first and try your unlock method before you clean.
Automation
- A global shortcut you can change to a key combination of your own
- Shortcuts app actions: "Lock Keyboard for Cleaning" and "Open Keyboard Test"

Privacy
CleanLock needs no Accessibility or Input Monitoring permission. It doesn't read your keystrokes and collects no data.
Good to know: the power button and Touch ID, brightness, volume and media keys are handled by macOS and can still respond during a lock. To clean those keys too, put your Mac to sleep first.

• If your Mac is asleep at reminder time, the reminder no longer shows up in the middle of the night. Wake your Mac within two hours and it appears right away; any later and it moves to your chosen hour the next day.
• New "Lock Now" button on the reminder starts a clean in one click. Clicking the notification itself opens CleanLock.
