Spektral is a professional real-time audio analyser for sound engineers: identify feedback, measure system response, characterise room acoustics and monitor noise compliance.
FIVE ANALYSIS MODES
• RTA: live spectrum on a logarithmic 20Hz to 20kHz scale, above a scrolling time-frequency spectrograph with adjustable range and history
• Transfer Function: dual-channel H1 estimator with magnitude, phase, coherence, impulse response and Auto-EQ
• SPL Monitor: environmental noise compliance with Leq tracking and professional PDF export
• RT60: reverberation across octave bands (125Hz to 4kHz): T20, T30, EDT and R², via interrupted pink noise or an impulse
• STIPA: Speech Transmission Index to IEC 60268-16 with per-band MTF and SNR, a built-in test signal and a Bad to Excellent rating
RINGING OUT
• Ring-Out watches for feedback as you push the system and names the frequency the moment it starts to grow, not once it howls
• Every confirmed ring lands in a session list with a suggested notch and Q, ready to copy to the console
• Steady tones and hum can't trigger it: a frequency must be growing to be called
• Identify labels the most prominent peaks on demand, from the single strongest to the top six
PRECISION TOOLS
• Selectable FFT size from 2,048 to 16,384 points
• Cursor with parabolic interpolation for sub-bin accuracy, with musical note readout
• Peak hold with smooth decay, and snapshot compare to overlay a frozen trace for A/B
• Smoothing from 1/1 to 1/24 octave; frame averaging up to 32, plus infinite
• Zoomable axes, floating mic/reference meter and per-channel input meters
• Pink noise generator with adjustable output level
SPL MONITORING & COMPLIANCE
• A-, C- and Z-weighting, and Slow, Fast and Impulse time weighting, to IEC 61672 methodology
• Calibrate via reference meter or acoustic calibrator, remembered per device and per input channel, and it survives an interface moving port
• Gain tracking: change preamp gain mid-show and the calibration follows, so readings stay true without recalibrating
• Rolling Leq windows: 1, 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minutes, plus 8-hour
• Limit Guard: set a limit and see the window level, the zone, and how long before you reach it
• Session statistics with time-history graph, and PDF reports carrying metadata, equipment and calibration detail
TRANSFER FUNCTION & MULTI-POSITION CAPTURE
• Works with a two-channel interface, or with just your Mac and a mic using built-in pink noise as the reference: no loopback, no interface
• Impulse response (linear and ETC) with automatic reflection detection: arrival time, distance and level
• Comb-filter prediction overlaid on the magnitude trace
• Delay alignment: FFT-based detection, a guided wizard and manual sub-sample tuning
• Phase shown against the delay you locked, compensated to sub-sample precision, so it compares position to position and tool to tool
• Multi-position capture with quality scoring, weighted averages and per-capture PDF pages
• Auto-EQ: up to 6 parametric suggestions with smart gain limiting
REMOTE MONITORING (add-on)
• Deploy iPhones as wireless SPL monitoring stations at multiple points
• Live Mac dashboard showing SPL, Leq and peak for every site, with a satellite map and heat propagation overlay
• PDF compliance reports with a page per remote location
• iCloud sync: no servers, no accounts, no configuration. One-time purchase, all your devices
DESIGNED FOR PROFESSIONALS
• Dark interface for low-light environments, with single-key shortcuts for the controls you reach for mid-show
• Smooth, low-CPU rendering that stays responsive through a long session
• Works with any Core Audio input device. Native SwiftUI, launches instantly
Monitor off-site noise propagation at live events, track occupational exposure in studios, characterise room acoustics and verify speech intelligibility. The workflow professional acousticians use, in a native Mac app.
Spektral is not a certified Class 1 or Class 2 instrument.
more A few users had experienced a crash with the new Sub Alignment wizard. This fixes that issue.
2.2.3 Sep 28
SUB ALIGNMENT WIZARD
Line your subs up with your tops, step by step. Measure the tops on their own, then the subs on their own, from one mic position. Spektral works out the delay and polarity that make them add up at the crossover, and tells you which box to delay and by how much: in milliseconds, in samples at 48k and 96k, and in metres. Put the number into your DSP and a third capture checks that it worked, by measuring subs and tops together against what a perfect sum would give. Open it from the Subs button in the transfer function, or with Shift-Command-U.
Built for real gigs. Nothing is captured until you press Capture, a box left on by mistake is caught and named, and the timing lock is watched throughout, so a stray click on Re-detect fails the step with a plain reason rather than handing you a wrong number.
LIMIT GUARD HEADROOM METER
Limit Guard now shows your headroom on a meter: twelve blocks from +6 to -6 dB, counting down as the room runs out, the scale engineers already know. Around it, a marker for the last minute's level shows which way the average is heading, a tick shows where the Leq will sit in five minutes, and when you are close or over, a recovery line tells you what level to hold under and for how long. It pulses amber only while the margin is shrinking, and holds steady while you are pulling it back. The warning margin is now yours to set, at 1, 2, 3 or 6 dB. The same meter appears on the SPL page, the RTA Leq strip and the HUD, so they always agree.
TRANSFER FUNCTION
Auto EQ corrects towards the target curve you have chosen. It used to aim at a fixed shape of its own, so with a house curve loaded it proposed cutting out the very low end you had dialled in on purpose. The panel now names the target it is aiming at.
The target tolerance band can be turned off, leaving the target line on its own.
Target and calibration files saved as rich text (.rtf) now import. A spreadsheet, which cannot be read directly, is recognised and named as one, and a file that cannot be read says what layout Spektral expects.
DELAY ALIGNMENT
Each zone now has a full minute to find its timing, so someone stopping to talk to you mid-measurement no longer costs you the session. If a zone still cannot lock, the wizard lists the usual causes and lets you retry that zone, keeping every zone already measured.
FIXES
Removing a zone in the delay alignment wizard no longer crashes Spektral.
Your chosen input channels are no longer lost after a crash. If your interface was slow to reappear, Spektral fell back to inputs 1 and 2 and saved that over your choice. It now uses 1 and 2 only until your interface is back, then returns to the channels you picked.
Remote monitoring only reports readings as synced once iCloud has confirmed them. If iCloud refuses them, Spektral keeps them and says so plainly.

MICROPHONE CALIBRATION
Calibrate from your microphone's certificate. A measurement mic ships with a sensitivity figure, and that figure is enough to read true dB SPL without owning a calibrator. Enter it once and Spektral works out the offset for you. If you have a calibrator, that route is unchanged and remains the more accurate of the two.
Load your microphone's calibration file. The response file supplied with your mic can now be imported, and the correction is applied to the spectrum itself, so the RTA and the transfer function show the room rather than the microphone. Spektral reads the files the common measurement microphones ship with, including the sensitivity figure many of them carry in the header, so a file you already have works as it is.
A calibration that cannot quietly go wrong. Certificate calibration depends on the input volume being where it was when the figure was measured, so Spektral checks it first and says so plainly rather than handing back an offset that is wrong by however far the fader has moved.
TARGET CURVES
Tune towards a shape, not a flat line. Choose a curve, load one from a file, or take the coherence-weighted average of your captured positions as the target and tune the next rig to match it. Spektral reads the frequency response files other analysers write, so targets you already have work as they are. A Concert PA house curve ships with the app, contributed by a Spektral user from a large-format concert system. Loaded curves are saved into the Target menu and can be renamed, so a file is imported once rather than once per show. Tolerance is selectable from 1 to 6 dB and the band follows the curve.
TRANSFER FUNCTION
Zoom the magnitude plot: 30, 15 or 10 dB, with the grid following at ten labelled divisions. Comb filtering that was an illegible squiggle at 30 dB reads clearly at 15.
Captured traces, their average and their phase now follow the Smoothing control like the live trace. Captures store the raw measurement, so ones you have already taken re-smooth as you change the setting.
SPL
The report, redesigned. A cleaner document throughout, with the session's headline figures, every rolling Leq window, a wall-clock time axis and a data-quality panel that says plainly what is missing before a report is used as evidence. With Limit Guard configured it states the verdict against the worst rolling window of the whole session, not merely the level at the moment you exported.
See the PDF before you save it. Every report, SPL, RT60 and STIPA alike, opens in a preview window first, and cancelling writes nothing.
Sessions record in every mode, so the history graph, minimum, maximum and average cover the whole show even while you work in RTA or Transfer.
Pause and resume a session between sets, so a support act or an interval does not have to be counted as measured programme.
Reset the Leq averages on demand, from the Leq strip, the SPL page or the L key, so a show is averaged from its downbeat rather than from whenever the app was opened.
REFINEMENTS
The spectrograph fills from the bottom at its final resolution, so a fresh window scrolls smoothly from the first row.
The SPL history graph advances at a steady scale over its first quarter hour and is labelled in clock time, matching the report.
Limit Guard shows its verdict and countdown on the SPL page as well as the RTA Leq strip.
Coherence blanking has hysteresis, so marginal regions fade out instead of flickering.
Level colours fade between zones instead of snapping.
Gain moves the whole RTA window rather than only its floor, so a hot low end can be brought down the plot.

Ring-Out: Spektral now watches for feedback as you push the system, names the frequency the moment it starts to grow, and builds a list with suggested notch and Q to copy straight to the console.
Gain tracking: change your preamp gain mid-show and the SPL calibration follows it, so your readings stay true without recalibrating.
Calibration is now remembered per device and per input channel, and survives an interface being moved to a different port.
Transfer function phase is more accurate at high frequencies, with sub-sample delay compensation so the delay you read is the delay that was applied.
SPL reports now include every Leq window, and the window fits properly on scaled displays.
2.0 Aug 13
Feedback Sentinel
Spektral now watches for feedback as it forms. Growing tones are flagged on the RTA before they take off, each with a suggested notch (cut and Q), and every confirmed ring is collected into a session ring-out list you can copy straight to the console.
Instant replay
Right-click the spectrograph (long-press on iPhone) to replay the audio behind any moment in the last minute. Heard something odd? Scroll back and listen again.
iPhone wireless probe
Run Spektral on your iPhone and it becomes a wireless measurement mic. Its spectrum overlays the Mac RTA in violet, and in Transfer mode the new Probe Mic button uses the phone as the measurement input: walk the room and run the Align wizard with no cable run. Delays over the link read as relative between positions.
SPL: rolling Leq and Limit Guard
Every Leq readout is now a true rolling window, the last N minutes exactly as a licensing officer measures. The SPL overlay readouts are tappable to pick 1 to 60 minute windows, the SPL page adds a five-tile Leq grid (1m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 8h), and the new Limit Guard counts down to your venue limit with an exact time-to-limit forecast.
iPhone SPL meter
The iOS app gains a full SPL Monitor mode: hero readout, rolling Leq, min, max, average and history graph from your calibrated phone.
Multi-position captures
Capture up to 12 positions (up from 6) into the redesigned sidebar, with per-position quality scoring, a coherence-weighted average trace, a position spread band, and show/hide for every trace. Sessions autosave and restore between launches.
Delay finder, rebuilt
Finds delays up to 1.4 seconds using whitened correlation with a quality gate, locks reliably on music or noise, and the impulse response view anchors the direct arrival at zero with labelled reflections and comb-filter prediction.
Refinements
Run and pause are now a transport pair with the active state highlighted.
Fullscreen keeps the mode tabs as part of the app rather than a detached system bar, and Ctrl+Cmd+F toggles fullscreen.
Uncalibrated SPL readouts are labelled dBFS(A) with a clear warning until you calibrate.
RT60 and STIPA measurement accuracy tightened after a standards audit.
Fixes
Major performance work: captures on screen now cost nothing while measuring, menus stay responsive during heavy sessions, and long-running sessions no longer slow down over time. Thanks to our beta testers for the detective work.
Keyboard shortcuts no longer fire while typing in text fields or while holding modifier keys.
1.8.2 Jul 12
96kHz support
Spektral now runs at 96kHz on interfaces that support it, for finer resolution in the top end.
Refinements
Hide the spectrograph for a full-height RTA when you want maximum spectrum detail.
New toggle to let the cursor free-run instead of snapping to peaks, for pinpointing an exact frequency.
Gain and Floor, along with the Peak, Identify and Snapshot tools, now appear only in RTA mode where they apply.
Mode tabs respond to a click anywhere on the button, not just the text.
The sample rate now reads in kHz in the status bar.
Fixes
Fixed pink noise stuttering on high channel count interfaces.
Transfer function now locks onto the built-in pink noise reliably, since the noise is correlated across channels.
The Remote Monitoring window can now be closed with a button, not just the Escape key.
1.8.1 Jun 30
Independent spectrum and SPL weighting — keep the spectrum flat for full bandwidth while still reading an A-weighted (or C, or Z) SPL level. Both are set in Settings.
Transfer function with the built-in noise — the pink noise generator is now correlated across channels, so the reference and mic line up and the delay locks when you drive the system from even if there is any output channel mixing.
1.8.0 Jun 30
Multichannel interfaces, done right
Switching to a multichannel interface or mixer now works directly in the app, delivering every channel at the correct sample rate, with no need to relaunch.
Spektral now remembers your selected input and output device across launches.
Reliable signal routing
Pink noise and the STIPA test signal now play out of the interface you choose, not whatever the system default happens to be, and pink noise stays on your chosen device even when the macOS default output changes.
Sharper readouts and measurement
SPL calibration is now saved per device, so switching mics or interfaces and back restores the right calibration.
Frequency weighting (A, C and Z) is now a click to change control in the status bar.
More accurate RT60 measurements.
Transfer function
Reflections now stand out clearly from the direct sound in the impulse response, with their predicted comb filtering colour matched to the reflection that causes it.
Other improvements
Save Session now opens a standard save dialog.
Layout fixes so the toolbar controls stay clear on smaller and scaled displays.
Stability and performance improvements.
1.7.8 Jun 24
Fixes the pink noise generator cutting out on audio interfaces, adds a dB SPL readout on the RTA when calibrated, and makes switching audio devices smoother.
1.7.5 Jun 20
More accurate SPL
We have refined the SPL weighting so dB(A) readings now closely track reference meters. Recalibrate with your calibrator and levels should line up with the house meter.
Reference overlay on the RTA
With a dual-channel input connected, the new Ref button overlays the reference channel's live spectrum on the RTA, so you can compare a mic against a console feed at a glance.
Faster input and FFT switching
The input routing and FFT readouts in the status bar are now click-to-change. Set your input device, output device, measurement and reference channels, or FFT size in one tap, no trip to Settings.
Refreshed toolbar
A cleaner, grouped layout with quick toggles for the input meters and the SPL overlay.
RT60 improvements
The overall reverberation figure now uses only the high-confidence bands, and low-confidence readings are dimmed so they are easy to spot.
Also
Spectrogram range handles can no longer be dragged off screen, plus various refinements and fixes.
1.7.4 Jun 19
New
• Input level meters — confirm signal at a glance. A floating mic/reference meter for the analyser, plus a per-channel input ladder in Settings that shows exactly which inputs are live (and flags when your interface gives the app fewer channels than it advertises).
• Selectable FFT size — choose resolution up to 16,384 points for finer low-frequency detail in both RTA and Transfer Function.
• Adjustable generator level — set the pink-noise and STIPA output level from a quick pop-up, in the toolbar and the RT60/STIPA panels.
Transfer Function
Fixed a regression that stopped Transfer Function working on interfaces with two inputs. Dual-channel capture works correctly again.
STIPA (Beta)
Speech intelligibility now measures accurately from end to end, with per-band detail, honest no-signal detection, and a generator level control.
RT60
More accurate reverberation times, with low-confidence bands clearly flagged.
Also new
Input level metering for mic and reference, plus a per-channel ladder. Selectable FFT size (2048 to 16384). Output device selection. Adjustable signal generator level. Smoothing and averaging fixes in Transfer Function.
1.7.3 Jun 18
Transfer Function, levelled up. New impulse response view with ETC (log dB) display, auto-labelled reflections (time, distance, level), and comb-filter prediction that links dips in your magnitude trace to the reflections causing them. Manual delay control with sample-accurate nudges, plus a smarter auto delay finder that locks onto the direct sound even when a reflection is louder.
Free channel routing. On multi-input interfaces, assign measurement and reference to any inputs — and the RTA now follows your measurement channel only.
Tougher audio engine. Fixed crashes when switching audio devices, added automatic recovery when a device stops responding, and squashed a host of UI bugs — including text fields capturing keyboard shortcuts and menus misbehaving while audio runs.
