99 is deceptively simple with deep strategy. Players take turns playing cards that add to a running total. Push it past 99 and you lose a token. Lose all three and you're out. Last player standing wins.
Special cards change everything. Reverse direction. Skip the next player. Slam the total to 99. Reset it to zero. Every card is a decision — play it now or save it for survival?
NINE REGIONAL VARIANTS
• Standard — 9 sets to 99, 4 reverses, 3 skips, K passes.
• Chicago — Kings set to 99, nines skip, tens always subtract.
• Hawaiian — Jacks set to 99, fives subtract 5.
• Icelandic — Queens skip and chain! Sevens reverse with value. Aces reach 14.
• Michigan — Nines and Kings swap powers.
• Taiwanese — Five-card hands. Ace of Spades resets to 0. Queens swing ±20.
• Baltimore — Steal cards! Sevens copy the last card played. One-eyed Jacks set to 99.
• Nepal — Twos set to 99. Simple but brutal.
• JBB — Icelandic plus a Joker, swapped values, and forced runs.
