DAILY MASTERS LEADERBOARD (NEW)
ABCD Par's Masters course - the full 18-hole "exact target" round now feeds a daily leaderboard. Finish a Masters round and you'll see today's top 20, where you ranked, and how many people played. Mini and Club stay private practice modes; only the Masters round counts for the leaderboard. The board re-surfaces if you reopen a completed round later the same day, so you can check back as more players post scores. Sort order is golf-style: under-par scores rank first, ties broken by who used fewer words to get there.
A FRIENDLIER DICTIONARY
The previous wordlist accepted 74,000+ Scrabble-tournament words including a long tail of fringe entries that nobody outside competitive Scrabble would recognise. The new wordlist is closer in spirit to Wordle: ~36,000 words, all of them words you've actually heard of. AI opponents won't surprise you with LAPJE or AAHED any more, the game's vocabulary is now shared with you on the same terms.
Definitions are now drawn from Princeton WordNet and bundled directly with the app, so they're instant, work offline, and there's no API key to renew. Every valid word ships with a definition (with a deliberate exception for very common short words like THE and AND that don't need defining).
PRO + GENIUS NOW GUARANTEE A 7-LETTER WORD EVERY DAY
ABCD Daily has shipped since launch with a guarantee that every daily hand contains at least one valid 7-letter word. ABCD Pro and ABCD Genius didn't, most days their hands offered no 7-letter target at all, which for one-shot-per-day modes with no swap-cards made the hard modes feel punishing rather than challenging. v1.1.13 closed the gap. Every hand on every ABCD mode is now guaranteed to contain a valid 7-letter target.
Hands for Daily, Pro, and Genius are also now pre-computed at build time and shipped with the app, so the deal is instant, no momentary pause while the device finds a solvable hand.
PROFILE STATS, ACTUALLY POPULATING
Two long-standing wiring bugs are fixed:
• ABCD Par's Profile card was reading from the wrong place. Players who finished Mini, Club, or Masters rounds saw zeros no matter how much they played. The card has been rebuilt around four real metrics: lifetime holes played (across all three courses), average vs par on Masters, your best word in Par, and your best Masters leaderboard rank.
• Alpha-Bet Draw's "hands played", "wins", and "longest streak" tiles only updated when someone ran out of chips. Players who finished individual hands but quit before chip-out saw zeros. Every showdown now counts.
If your Profile screen has been quieter than your actual play would suggest, this is why.
ABCD PAR — POLISH AND FIXES
• Returning to ABCD Par after a Masters round? The home screen now leads with a "View today's Masters leaderboard" button — one tap into the live top 20.
• The results screen for a finished Masters round leads with the leaderboard whether you've just finished or you're coming back later in the day — same view, both entry points.
• Smarter par/target balance — no more impossible holes like "par 6 / target 7".
• On Dynamic Island iPhones, the Par home screen no longer briefly slides under the camera island on first open.
OTHER FIXES & POLISH
• Alpha-Bet Draw: a timing bug could occasionally lock the game on "Dealing replacements…" mid-hand. Resolved.
• Settings → About now has a Report a bug, link opens an email to info@alpha-bet.tv with your version and platform pre-filled.
• Definitions attribution updated - Settings → About now reads "Definitions from Princeton WordNet" (replaces the older Wordnik row).
• The Multiplayer help button used to read "How Party Works" — leftover from older naming. Now reads "How Multiplayer Works".
1.1.15 May 14
A SHARPER DICTIONARY
The post-game definition is now powered by Wordnik. The previous source pulled from a community wiki and routinely surfaced obscure or wrong definitions for words you'd actually played — a sore point with experienced word-game players. Wordnik draws from real published dictionaries (WordNet, Wiktionary, the Century Dictionary and others) and we filter out archaic and grammatical-cross-reference entries before showing you anything, so the first definition you see is the modern, useful one. Definitions are cached the first time anyone looks them up so subsequent appearances are instant and work offline.
YOUR PROGRESS NOW LIVES IN THE CLOUD
Until v1.1.11 your wins, streaks, opponent unlocks, and Pro/Riley/Alex/Sam/Victoria progression all lived only on the device. Reinstalling the app, switching phones, or any state-clearing OS event would wipe them with no way back. From v1.1.11 onwards everything is mirrored to your Alpha-Bet account: when you sign in on a fresh install, your progression is pulled down and merged with whatever's on the device (we keep the higher of the two so you never lose ground). If you've felt like the app forgot some of your progress on the v1.1.9 update — sign in, give it a moment, and it should reappear.
POST-GAME LAYOUT, REWORKED FOR LONG WINNING WORDS
Six- and seven-letter winning words were getting cramped against the score and definition on the same line. The reveal card has been rebuilt as a clean two-column layout: the player, the word, and what it scored on the left; the full definition flowing down the right. Reads better at any word length, and especially for the long ones that score the multiplier.
UNDER THE HOOD
• "Powered by Wordnik" attribution added to Settings → About per their licence
• 49 new automated tests covering the dictionary cache layers and cloud-state merge logic
• Misc. polish to the post-game card you see at the end of every Hold'em hand
1.1.11 May 1
Hotfix for v1.1.9.
The "best possible word" reveal at the end of each Hold'em hand had a bug — it was computing the optimal word from only your 3 hole cards instead of the full 7-card hand (3 hole + 4 community board) that Hold'em is actually played from. So if you used the board to make a 5-, 6-, or 7-letter word, the reveal would tell you the "best possible" was a short word that ignored the board. Confusing, and slightly insulting if you'd just played a good hand.
v1.1.10 fixes this. The reveal now scores against the full hand the way the game is actually played.
While we were in there, the wording on the reveal card got a refresh too:
• When you played the optimal word, you now see your score celebrated directly: "Congratulations — N points was the best possible score for your hand." This appears whether you won or lost the hand — playing the best word your cards allowed is worth the credit either way.
• When there was a higher-scoring word you missed, you see it straight: "You could have got M points for the best word, which was [WORD], in this hand." (Previously this restated what you played, which was already on the previous card.)
Also a correction to v1.1.9's release notes: that release added the best-possible-word reveal to Hold'em modes (Solo, 1v1 multiplayer, multiplayer rooms, Tutorial). The notes incorrectly named Draw modes as well — Draw uses a different post-game layout and the reveal isn't there yet. We'll add it for Draw in a future release.
Folded hands still skip the reveal entirely (no submitted word, nothing to compare).
1.1.10 May 1
SEE THE BEST WORD YOU COULD HAVE PLAYED
After every Hold'em Solo, Draw Solo, and Draw Duo hand, you'll now see the highest-scoring word you could have made from your own cards — and how it compared to the word you actually played. If you nailed the optimal word, you'll get a clear high-five about it. If you missed a better one, we'll tell you what it was and what it would have scored.
The reveal is on by default for all players because it'll quietly make you a sharper word-poker player — you start to spot the high-scoring vowel-heavy words you weren't seeing before. If you'd rather just bank the next hand, switch it off any time at Settings → Gameplay → Reveal best possible word. We'll point you at that toggle the first few times the reveal shows up, so it's never hard to find.
THE RILEY UNLOCK COUNTER, FIXED
If you've been beating Rookie Riley in Solo Hold'em (or Draw Solo) and watching the "2 more vs Riley" message refuse to go down — that wasn't your imagination. The chooser was reading from the wrong place and your real win count was being ignored. Your wins were always being banked correctly behind the scenes, so as soon as you install v1.1.9 and open the chooser, Sharp Alex will unlock immediately if you've already beaten Riley three times. Same fix applies down the chain to Cool Sam and Pro Victoria.
1.1.9 Apr 30
ABCD PRO + GENIUS — now with daily leaderboards
The harder modes finally get the post-game social layer ABCD Daily has had since launch. After every Pro and Genius hand you'll see today's leader, your position in the pack ("you are 4th of 9"), and the BEST POSSIBLE WORD anyone could have made from the day's seven cards. Plus a new score-distribution histogram so you can see how your score stacks up across everyone who played.
A QUIETER UPDATE PROMPT
When a new version ships, the nudge to update is now a small two-line strip at the top of the screen — much less in your face than the previous card. Same one-week snooze, simpler look.
POLISH & FIXES
• ABCD Genius board generator hardened — the rare seed that took longer than expected to find a solvable hand is now caught and re-rolled before you see it
• Settled an audio-system warning that was logging on app launch for some players
• Behind-the-scenes: every Pro / Genius hand you play now feeds the same daily-leaderboard stream as Daily, so the rankings get real fast
1.1.8 Apr 29
The leaderboard catches up.
Your best word in Duo, Multi, AB Draw (Solo and Duo), and Alpha-Deal now appears on the global leaderboard. They were quietly missing — fixed.
Also:
• AB Draw — ties no longer mistakenly say "You win this hand!"
• AB Draw — tap a discard card again to deselect it
• Settings → Privacy — one-tap opt-out for anonymous usage data
• Stability fixes for the in-app legal links
• Wider crash-reporting net so the next silent regression won't be silent
1.1.6 Apr 28
ABCD Pro and ABCD Genius Two new daily challenges for players who've mastered ABCD Daily.
ABCD Pro raises the bar — only words of 4 letters or longer score. ABCD Genius turns the dial to maximum — only 5-letter words and above count. Every board is guaranteed to contain everyday words you'll actually recognise, not just obscure Scrabble terms.
Both modes give you their own daily puzzle, independent streak, and separate leaderboard. Come back each day to compete on all three tiers.
1.1.5 Apr 27
DRAW SOLO — practise against the house
Five-card-draw word poker, now playable solo. Pick your opponent — Rookie Riley, Sharp Alex, Cool Sam, or Pro Victoria — and play the same Draw you know from Duo. Five private cards, two betting rounds, one swap, both words revealed at showdown.
HOW TO PLAY guides on every game
Each game now has its own swipeable How to Play deck on its opener. Quicker than the old tutorial, with the rules that actually matter — 6-letter words score 2x, 7-letter words score 3x, ABCD Daily can't repeat a word, Masters needs the exact target.
A SHARPER PROFILE
Rebuilt to match the rest of the app. Per-game stats cards for Beat the House, Draw Solo, and Draw Duo — wins, win rate, average word, best-ever word.
BEST-EVER WORD on the hub
Each family on the hub now shows your personal best word in that family. Quiet brag for you, target for tomorrow.
SUNDAY WEEKLY RECAP (opt-in)
Turn it on in Settings → Notifications and you'll get a Sunday-evening summary of your ABCD week plus your best word-poker word from the last seven days.
POLISH & FIXES
• What's New card the first time you open a new version
• NEW ribbon on recently launched games (auto-clears after three weeks)
• Update nudge if you're behind a release (snoozable for a week)
• Accurate "what scores extra" copy in every tutorial deck
