Pay once and the app is yours. No subscription, no account. New in 1.10.0: the numbers first on the workout screen, Stats over 4 to 26 weeks, and a streak in weeks.
Anvil Workout is a strength training app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Plan your programs, track sets and reps in the gym, and review progress over time. One-time purchase. No subscription, no account, no ads, no in-app analytics. Your workouts stay on your device.
PROGRAM LIBRARY
Six classic strength programs are built in. Pick one, tap import, and start training:
• Starting Strength
• StrongLifts 5×5
• Greyskull LP
• GZCLP
• Upper/Lower split
• Push/Pull/Legs
Each program ships with the right exercises, set/rep schemes, and progression notes. Templates are fully editable after import. If you lift in pounds, starting weights come in 5 lb steps.
OR BUILD YOUR OWN
70 exercises across every major muscle group, and you can add your own. Mix and match into your own routines, set targets for sets, reps, weight, and rest, and link supersets together. The exercise library is fully searchable.
SWITCHING APPS
Import your workout history from a Strong or Hevy CSV export. You see what comes across before anything is saved, and exercises are matched to Anvil's own where they are the same lift.
ACTIVE WORKOUT
A focused screen for the gym floor. The set you are on is a large card with its reps and weight and one Done button. Last session's numbers sit beside it, one tap to reuse them. Rest counts down as a clock, also on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Supersets alternate one set at a time, with rest after each round. A plate calculator shows what goes on each side of the bar.
APPLE WATCH
See the current set on your wrist, mark it done or skipped, and feel when rest is over. The workout runs on your iPhone, so the watch needs the phone nearby. It needs no internet.
PROGRESS TRACKING
• Stats over 4, 12 or 26 weeks, compared with the weeks before
• Volume, workouts or sets per week, and sets per muscle group
• Estimated 1RM per lift, and your latest records
• After each workout: time, sets and volume against last time
• History by week and month, searchable by exercise
• A streak counted in weeks, so rest days never break it
APPLE HEALTH
Optional integration writes workouts to Health and reads heart rate and calories from Apple Watch during training.
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
No account. No cloud. No analytics inside the app. Workout data stays on your device. Crash reports, which carry no workout details, can be turned off in Settings. Your progress is yours.
PAID ONCE, YOURS FOREVER
One-time purchase. No subscription. No upsells. Future updates included.
Anvil Workout is an independent app and is not affiliated with Strong or Hevy.
Ratings & Reviews
This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
A design pass over the whole app, built around the numbers.
The workout screen puts the set you are on first: its reps and weight large, one Done button, and rest as a clock. Supersets alternate one set at a time, with rest after each round instead of between the exercises.
Home starts with your week, then the workout to do next with its Start button. The streak now counts weeks in a row with a workout, so a rest day no longer resets it.
Stats looks back over 4, 12 or 26 weeks and compares them with the weeks before: volume, workouts or sets per week, your latest record on each lift, the estimated one-rep max of the lift you train most, and sets per muscle group. Warm-up sets no longer count towards volume.
After a workout you see time, sets and volume against the last time you did the same program, any new records, and each exercise in one line. History is grouped by week and month, and search finds exercises as well as programs.
New to the app? It asks which unit you lift in, offers Apple Health before your first workout instead of in the middle of it, and gets you to that workout: a program from the library, your history imported from another app, or a program of your own. Imported exercises now join the app's own where they are the same lift, so old records and new ones line up.
If you lift in pounds, library programs start on weights you can load, in 5 lb steps.
Fixed: the first launch after installing could crash.
