Presenter Pointer is always ready in your menu bar — there's no mode to turn on first. Just hold the Option (⌥) key and drag to draw on any app, then let go and you're instantly back in your work. No toolbar pops up, nothing steals your focus.
SWITCH TOOLS WITHOUT LETTING GO
Keep ⌥ held and tap Shift. A panel steps through the five tools; release ⌥ and the one you landed on stays selected. Tap Command to step backwards. Only modifier keys are involved, so nothing is typed into the app underneath — and no shortcut is taken away from the rest of your Mac.
