QGExplorer
A familiar, no-nonsense file manager for macOS — especially if you came from Windows or Linux.
QGExplorer is a macOS file manager built around the patterns power users already know from File Explorer and Linux file managers — editable path bar with autocomplete, detailed list views with sortable columns, an expandable sidebar tree that behaves like a tree, full keyboard navigation, tabs, and a real preview pane. If you've ever felt that managing files on macOS asks you to give up habits you spent years building, this is for you.
It's also fast, free of clutter, has no telemetry, no popups, no upsells, and intentionally no network access. What's on your disk stays on your disk.
Familiar from day one
Editable path bar — type or paste a path and press Enter to jump there
Detailed list view with sortable, resizable columns (Name, Size, Modified, Created, Kind)

Tabs with shared layout, full keyboard navigation
Right-click context menu with the operations you'd expect, on files and folders alike
Navigation that gets out of the way
List, table, and icon views with adjustable density
Sidebar with Suggested Locations, Devices, and your own Spaces (named groups of folder links)
Reveal-in-sidebar — jump from any folder back to its place in the tree

Privacy
QGExplorer is sandboxed and only sees folders you grant through the standard macOS picker. No network entitlement, no analytics, no update server, no telemetry of any kind. It's a local file browser. That's the entire promise.

more Version 1.7.2 fixes two problems with external drives, adds Get Info for disks, and brings the preview-pane improvements from the previous update.
• Moving files to an external drive (such as a Samsung T7) no longer fails with a false "not enough space" message
• Granting access to an exFAT drive no longer fails with a bookmark error — the drive opens right away
• New: Get Info on any disk or folder shows free space, used space, format and more, with a Finder-style capacity bar
• The preview pane is now a place you can work: select a folder to see its contents as tiles, open with double-click or Return, Quick Look with Space, multi-select, drag files in and out, and use Copy, Cut and Paste
• Back and Forward return to what was selected, not only the folder
• A removable drive pulled out without ejecting now leaves the sidebar instead of lingering with stale contents
1.7.2 3d ago
Version 1.7.0 makes the preview pane a place you can work in, and fixes several issues.
• Selecting a folder now shows what is inside it, with the same tiles and thumbnails as the grid view
• Open a tile with a double-click or Return, press Space for Quick Look, and move between tiles with the arrow keys
• Select several tiles with Shift or Command, drag files into and out of the preview, and use Copy, Cut and Paste there
• Right-click a tile for the usual menu, including Copy Path, Reveal in Finder and Move to Trash
• The preview follows the folder: a file added or removed elsewhere shows up right away
• Back and Forward return to what was selected, not only to the folder
• Dragging a file into Finder or another app no longer stopped every later drag from working
• A removable drive pulled out without ejecting now leaves the sidebar instead of lingering with stale contents
• The Rendered/Source switchers in the Markdown, SVG, Mermaid and CSV previews follow the app's theme
• Pressing Return over the delete confirmation no longer left the deletion stuck
1.7.0 Sep 9
Version 1.6.1 adds image thumbnails to the list and table views and fixes several issues.
• List and table views show small thumbnails for images instead of the generic file icon
• Filtering by a content type (Video, Images…) no longer hides folders, so you can keep navigating while a filter is on
• The sort control could show its compact icon instead of the sort field name until the window was resized — fixed
• The tag dots in the status bar now fold into a compact tag menu in narrow windows instead of disappearing
• Help now explains the extra system permission macOS asks for on SD cards and external drives
1.6.1 Sep 5
Version 1.6.0 adds tabs, a background transfer queue, Finder tags and six new themes.
TABS
• Cmd-T opens a tab, Cmd-W closes it, drag to reorder
• Each tab keeps its own folder, view mode, sort order and filters
• Drop files onto a tab to move them there; hovering a tab mid-drag switches to it
• Right-click a tab to close the others, close tabs to the right, or open a recent folder in a new tab
• Open in New Tab is available from the sidebar and the path bar
• Tabs are restored on relaunch
TRANSFER QUEUE
• Copies and moves run in the background, with progress, speed and pause/cancel
• If the app quits mid-transfer, the queue offers to resume on next launch
• Free space on the destination is checked before the transfer starts
• Optional content verification after each transfer — configure it in Settings
• A finished transfer expands to list every file with its full path
• Background moves can be undone from the Activity Log
• Keep Both names the previous file "report (old).pdf"
FINDER TAGS
• Tag selected files from the status bar with one click on a color dot
• Named tags (Work, Personal…) appear there too, in the colors Finder uses
• Add and remove tags from the context menu
• Filter by several tags at once, including in recursive search
FOLDER SIZES
• Calculate a folder's real size from its Size cell or the preview pane; long calculations show a running total and can be cancelled
• Right-click the Size column header to calculate all folders at once
• Sorting by size matches the displayed sizes
THEMES
• Six new themes, three dark and three light
Also in this release: dragging files inside the app moves them instead of copying, smoother drag and drop in every view, a status bar that adapts to narrow windows, free space shown for the current volume, and fixes throughout — including reliable renaming in list and table views.

• CSV/TSV opens as a real table with automatic delimiter detection; copy rows straight into Numbers or Excel

CUT, PASTE, MOVE
• Cut (Cmd-X) then paste to move files — cut items dim until pasted, Esc cancels
• Option-Cmd-V moves copied items instead of copying
• Moves and pastes are now undoable

• Extension badges and image dimensions / media durations under file names
• Long names keep their extension visible, with the full name on hover

• Suggestions always drop down below the bar
Plus clearer settings descriptions and small visual refinements.

Image preview fits the pane properly again
Previewing an image used to leave a band of unused space around it — on wide panes the preview clamped to a square in the middle of the area instead of expanding to use the full width or height. Fixed: the image now scales to fill the preview pane along its limiting axis.

Forward navigation — Back and Forward buttons now work like a browser. Navigate back and then forward through your folder history.
Path suggestions dismiss on outside click — Click anywhere outside the path bar to close the suggestions dropdown.
File Management
Paste images from clipboard — Press Cmd+V to paste screenshots or copied images directly as PNG files into the current folder. A feature not available in Finder.
Rename selects name only — When renaming a file, only the name is selected (without the extension), matching Finder behavior.
Slow-click rename — Click once on an already-selected file name to start renaming, just like in Finder.
Drag-and-drop safety — Dragging multiple items no longer allows accidentally dropping them onto one of the items being dragged.
Undo/Redo logging — Undo and Redo actions are now logged in the Activity Log so you can see what was reversed.
