iPhone
No more waiting for someone to read you the mail, the can, or the kiosk screen. Just ask fathom. Made by a legally blind designer. Free on iPhone, no account.
Visual assistance you can talk to.
Ask fathom what's in front of you, what a letter says, or where you left your keys. It remembers what you tell it, and you decide what it keeps.
Most of the day asks you to look. The label on the can. The dial on the washer. The sign on the door. The kiosk that's only a screen. So you ask someone, or guess, or wait. Or you ask fathom.
I'm a legally blind product designer. I built the tool I kept wishing I had, instead of waiting for a sighted team to guess what I needed.
Just ask
One screen. Speak, type, or pick a suggestion, and fathom does it right there. The mic is always in the same place, and Magic Tap opens it.
Look Now
Six ways to look: describe the whole scene, read text word for word, identify what you're holding, read a kiosk or appliance screen, name what you're pointing at, or take a closer look.
Read at your pace
A long letter becomes a document you move through. Go back, skip ahead, repeat a part, or pause. With VoiceOver, it's real text, with headings on the rotor.
Lookout and Point to Ask
Lookout keeps describing what's around you while you walk. You choose how much it says: Hazards Only, Balanced, or Full Awareness. Point at anything for about a second, and fathom tells you what it is.
Memory
Tell fathom where things are, then ask later. It says back what it saved. Everything it keeps is in Settings, where you can correct it or delete it.
Obstacle alerts are always on, and always free
When fathom notices a hazard, it buzzes first. Obstacle alerts run on your phone in Lookout, Go, and tasks, with Cloud AI on or off. They keep working when this month's Cloud AI allowance runs out.
fathom plus
Go guides you to places you've named, like the laundry room, from what the camera sees. When it thinks you're there, it asks.
Step-by-step plans: tell fathom the whole job. It reads you the steps before anything starts. Accept the plan, change it, or dismiss it.
Task coaches you through one hands-on job in front of the camera. Turn on Live mode and it becomes a conversation while you work.
Skills: teach fathom a job once, then run it by name, from the app or from Siri.
fathom plus is a monthly subscription. New subscribers get the first week free.
Cloud or on-device, your choice
With Cloud AI, fathom sends camera pictures, the text of what you say, and what it remembers about you to Google's Gemini AI. In Live mode, your voice is sent too, while the microphone is on. fathom asks before anything goes to Google. With On-device AI, nothing is sent to Google, and obstacle alerts and reading text work on every iPhone.
Built for VoiceOver
Built for VoiceOver from the first screen. Eight Siri shortcuts, and the Action Button can open Look Now. Light, dark, and Contrast Boost. fathom answers in your iPhone's language when it can; buttons and alerts are in English.
No account. Every setup question is optional.
fathom uses AI, and it can make mistakes. Keep your cane or your dog.

fathom is one conversation now.
Ask by voice or by typing on one screen. Look Now, Lookout, Go and Task all run there. Past sessions are in History, in the menu.
You'll see the Cloud AI question once more.
If you use Cloud AI, a short pop-up now says exactly what fathom sends to Google, including what it remembers for you. Choose Allow cloud AI or Keep fathom on-device.
Hazards have sounds.
A short sound plays at a step down or a drop-off, and when you walk into something. Hazard words are short, like "Step down ahead," and wait for the end of fathom's sentence unless a step or drop-off can't wait. Speak hazard alerts is now on by default. With the sounds on, fathom names steps, drop-offs and things the camera spots close by, and you feel walls as vibrations. Change both in Settings, under Narration and haptics. Vibrations play either way, and urgent ones always play at full strength.
Obstacle alerts pause while you type.
Opening Type pauses them, and fathom says so. They also pause while Settings or another full screen is open, and come back when you close it.
Tell it the whole job.
Say something like "find my cup and fill it at the water dispenser." fathom may ask a few short questions, then reads you the whole plan. Accept, change or dismiss it. While it runs, pause, change or end it. Step-by-step plans are part of fathom plus.
fathom remembers what you tell it.
Say "remember my keys are on the hook," and it says back exactly what it saved. Later, ask "where are my keys?" fathom asks before it saves anything it suggested. Read, edit or forget memories in Settings, under More options, then Memory. Memory is free.
Pin a spot and find it again.
Stand at the front door and say "remember where the front door is." fathom saves it and pins the spot. Later, say "take me to the front door," and Go guides you back, even when the spot is behind you. Pinning needs an iPhone with a LiDAR Scanner. Go is part of fathom plus.
Go asks when you've arrived.
When fathom thinks you're there, it asks, and waits for your answer. You can also tap I've arrived, or shake your phone.
Teach it a routine.
Say "teach you how I make coffee," then talk through the steps. Later, say "run" and the skill's name. Running a skill is part of fathom plus.
Take a closer look.
After fathom describes something, choose Take a closer look, or say it, for a fresh picture and a more careful look.
Siri knows more.
Say "fathom, remember this" or "fathom, where is it," and Siri answers without opening the app. "Look with fathom" describes what's in front of you. Siri can also take you to a place you taught fathom, or run a skill. Siri's phrase to stop fathom is gone. In the app, say stop or use End.
Your voice and your language.
With VoiceOver off, you can choose fathom's voice in Settings. fathom answers in your iPhone's language when it can also understand speech in it. If it can't, it tells you once and uses English.
More works without the internet.
Reading text works with no connection. On iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence on, Look Now can describe what's around you without the cloud.
Outside Live mode, your voice stays on your phone.
fathom turns what you say into text on the phone, and with Cloud AI on, only the text is sent. If your iPhone can't do that for your language, fathom tells you, and you can type. You feel a tap when the microphone opens and when it closes. It closes when you stop talking.
Your data can move with you.
In Settings, under More options, then Your data, you can export your profile, memories, skills and routes to one file, import it, or delete them.
Also in this release.
Snapshot is now Look Now. Live Task is now Live mode, a fathom plus switch for Task. fathom has a new look and app icon, and its screens fit the largest text sizes.
