Get a score out of 100, keep your streak, earn milestones and watch your puzzle ELO grow. See your progress at a glance: your month, your best streak and your puzzle ELO over time. Turn on a gentle daily reminder if you like. Everything stays on your phone: no accounts, no leaderboard. Share your result without spoilers, then practise the position against the bots. Scan an invite: start a game in seconds. On the Play screen, tap Scan an invite and point your camera at a friend's ChessFlex code. The camera only reads the code; nothing is recorded or sent. Cross-platform play: play friends whose phones don't use iCloud. Turn on Cross-platform play in Profile, invite with a QR code or a link, and play live or by correspondence, rated, with clocks and draw offers, anonymously under your handle. It is off until you turn it on, and such an invite always asks first. These games travel through Google Firebase, carrying your nickname and the moves, nothing that identifies you. Games with other iPhones stay on iCloud, exactly as before. Practice from any game: tap a move in any of your games and choose Practice from here. Or choose Both sides in Practice and Scan to make every move yourself, for White and Black, with no bot. Follow a live game (Study): top tournaments move by move, or great games of the past replayed, with every world championship match since 1886 in the app. Predict each move before it's played and score points, see whether the engine saw it coming, follow the game with the Coach's commentary, and explore any position against the bots while the real game goes on. Games from Lichess broadcasts. The Coach and the Bard now speak Portuguese, Dutch and Norwegian, joining English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu and Kannada. Fixed: when you deliver checkmate, the game summary now says "You win by checkmate". And bot games are smooth again.

Scanning a board is more accurate. Screenshots and puzzle pictures are read correctly, and boards no longer come out upside down. Chess with a coach who speaks your language: English, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Kannada, Spanish, French and German. On iPhone, iPad and Mac. The Coach and the Bard speak six new languages: Bengali, Telugu, Kannada, Spanish, French and German, alongside English, Hindi and Tamil. Pick a language first, then a voice; a language shows only when your iPhone has a voice for it.

Now on iPad, and on Mac: a big board in portrait or landscape, with the Study Coach open beside it. Ask the Coach: in the Study Coach, tap, type or say a question about your position (the best move, the threat, your last move, your plan, who's better) and the Coach answers out loud, straight from the engine. Take over a bot game: in Watch bots play, pause and tap "play from here" to play on against the other bot, then hand it back and watch the bots carry on from your position. Your progress, day by day: Games are grouped by day with each day's record and rating change, with filters for Bots, Friends and Practice. Practice games are kept (unrated) and reopen where you left off. Profile shows your rating by day and this week's change. Also new: • Practice shows live win chances, like your bot games. • A new game against a bot opens at once. • After a lost game, the Coach names the move that cost it, or says the chances slipped away bit by bit. • Bots play more naturally from a set-up position. • One even narration volume, ratings read as "ELO rating 1600", and the ChessFlex logo on Play, Games and Profile.

Play, watch, and now train with a coach: the Coach reviews your own games. • Coach this game: open any finished game in Games and tap "coach this game". The Coach replays it move by move, points out the move that mattered and the better one, and sums the game up at the end. It speaks English, Hindi or Tamil. Tap "to the end" to skip straight to the verdict. • Share the recap: a card with the final board and the Coach's summary, ready to post. • A seventh voice: the Nature documentary, calm and watchful, for Watch bots play. • New kingdoms for the Bard: Sahyadri and Pambar, Vindhya and Pravak, Himavat and Kadak, and a Persian Shatranj, Alborz and Kavir, with the Shah, the Wazir and the Fil (English and Hindi). • Games are now numbered, so you can tell them apart. • Fixes: the Bard pronounces its kingdoms more clearly, and a game review no longer stalls at the end. A tougher King. Our top bot now runs on the rebuilt engine and plays at a new level. If you beat it before, try again. A much stronger coach. The analysis engine has been rebuilt from the ground up: deeper search, smarter time management, and a positional evaluation that understands mobility, pawn structure and king safety. The Study Coach thinks longer when you ask it, and its three suggested lines are sharper. Hear the line. A new read-aloud button speaks the coach's selected line. Better board scanning. Study Coach: three ways from here. Tap the sparkles button in any game against a bot and the coach now shows you three moves, not one - the best line and the two most tempting alternatives. Each comes with a verdict in chess's own language (= just as good, ?! a little worse, ? clearly worse, ?? loses) and how the game looks at the end of that line. Play it forward. Tap any move in a line and the board plays that future for you, step by step. Switch lines to jump to the same point in another future. Tap "back to now" and you're back in your game - nothing you explore ever touches the real position. See it on the board. Candidate moves are drawn as arrows, the best one solid. Knights even take the L. When there's only one good move, the coach says so - and shows you why the tempting alternatives fail. Works on scanned positions too.
