PhotoFlight: Travel Photo Map
Countries Visited & Trip Diary
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Your photos already hold a travel diary. PhotoFlight helps you find it.
Explore a 3D globe, a travel passport and albums built from the dates and locations in your photo library. Revisit countries, cities and trips without keeping a diary by hand.
MAKE SENSE OF YOUR TRAVELS
Follow multi-stop journeys, group trips, and correct dates and places. Add current and previous home locations so everyday life and holidays are easier to tell apart. Routes and transport are estimates from available photo information, not verified flight records.
TURN MEMORIES INTO VIDEOS
With PhotoFlight Pro, create portrait videos from trips, countries and cities. Choose up to 20 photos, edit the title and add one of six included soundtracks, your own permitted music, or no music. Share the finished video using the iOS share sheet.
SEE WHAT YOUR PHOTOS CAN TELL YOU
The free Scan Report explains what was found and what is missing. Review photos without a location and suggested matches where travel evidence supports them. Missing dates, location information or limited Photos access can leave gaps; screenshots are not automatically used as travel evidence.
KEEP A MEMORY CLOSE
Optional anniversary reminders help you revisit past trips. On supported iPhones, link NFC tags to trips, countries or web albums and turn a travel souvenir into a shortcut to a memory. NFC tags are sold separately.
PRIVACY, WITH NO ACCOUNT REQUIRED
PhotoFlight stores your travel history on your device and does not upload your photo library to its own servers. Apple services may resolve place names and display maps. Calendar access and enhanced flight lookup are optional; enhanced lookup uses a third-party service with a key you supply.
PHOTOFLIGHT PRO
A one-time purchase unlocks unlimited photo-history scanning, the full trip timeline and albums, manual entry and corrections, photo-location tools, share cards, trip/country/city videos, widgets and souvenir linking.
No subscription. Purchase restoration is available in the app.
more Your trips, now with chapters, and a replay that finally knows which way it's going.
New
• Country galleries are grouped by day and town, with a header for each stop, in the order you went.
• Relive Journey goes full screen: tap the expand button and the whole map is yours, controls docked at the bottom.
• The clock now keeps pace with the map, and long stays play longer than quick hops.
• Up to 16× speed, for trips you remember mostly as "airport, beach, airport".
Bug fixes
• The plane flew backwards, like a very confident crab. It now points where it's going.
• On drives, playback ran but nothing moved. Now an arrow travels each leg and the current stop pulses.
• A "Flight" label parked on top of city names. It's gone; the plane speaks for itself.
• "1 days with memories". It's "1 day" now. We can count, honestly.
• In Passport › By Year, years broke in half ("202" / "6"). All four digits stick together, even with big text.
• You went home, but the app didn't seem to know. Trips now say "Round trip · return included".
• Compare showed your trips but wouldn't open them. Tap View trip.
• On iPad, Passport's title and buttons wandered into your Trips. Everything stays in its own lane.
• In long replays, Next sometimes did nothing and Previous skipped a stop. Both land where you'd expect.
• Look-alike burst shots vanished from the replay album. Every photo stays; only highlights skip look-alikes.
• "1 items". It's "1 item". Same counting lesson, different screen.
Your photos never leave your phone.
1.3.6 Oct 10
A little more control over your memories, and a new way to relive them.
• Untagged used to invite the whole group to the same location. Including that receipt. You can now preview and select only the photos and videos that belong before confirming GPS tagging.
• Wrong place? Select memories from a trip, town, city, country or album and correct their location. You can also exclude items from a trip without deleting them from Apple Photos, then restore them later. Even receipts deserve a second chance.
• Videos were very good at pretending to be photos. Their play icons and durations now stay visible inside cropped thumbnails.
• Open a trip and tap Relive Journey: watch the map advance through your memories with dates, observed stays, photos and videos. The plane appears on flight legs; ordinary stop connections have no moving transport icon. Pause, change speed, scrub or jump between stops. Routes connect observed photo locations without assuming how you travelled; we haven't secretly tracked your holidays.
Thanks to everyone who shared feedback and helped improve PhotoFlight.

A new iPad layout adds sidebar navigation, comfortable reading widths, adaptive album grids and side-by-side trips on wider screens. Fixed an iPad issue where another screen’s title and toolbar buttons could appear in the selected section. The Passport Settings button now has a clear accessibility label. This one is mostly us owning up. Your trips were fine; our homework wasn’t.
• First open could crash right as your first scan finished: two parts of the app were reading and tidying the same travel data at the same moment. They now take turns, like adults.
• The first scan no longer shows a passport full of zeros for ages. Your globe and passport fill in while PhotoFlight is still working.
• Taking a screenshot could make every trip briefly forget where it went (“Unknown Location → Unknown Location”). Trips now keep their names through rescans, and a screenshot no longer sets off a rebuild at all.
• Photos taken from a ferry, a cruise or a low-flying plane were called “Unknown” and could even become a trip’s destination. They now carry the sea’s name (“North Sea”, say), and your trip ends on dry land.
• Monaco and the Vatican were being quietly annexed by France and Italy. Small countries and territories now count: Vatican City, Monaco, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Gibraltar and Macau.
• We were counting your holiday as travel time, so a 750 km flight looked like a very long drive. Flights now come from real evidence, and your flight totals stop leaving them out.
• Green and blue trips finally have a legend. Green means the trip ends at home; visiting a city you used to live in no longer counts as “going home”.
• A background refresh could crash while you weren’t even looking. It has been spoken to.
• Rescans are gentler on big libraries: places that didn’t change keep their details instead of being rebuilt from scratch.
• Travel Plans only spoke English: “2 done · 3 to go” and your dream destinations stayed in English whatever language you use. They now speak yours.
• On iPad, making a trip video happened in a tiny window in the middle of the screen. It now gets most of the screen, as it should.
Your photos stay on your device, as always. Happy travels.
1.2.16 Sep 28
Improved trip album stability and updated alternate app icons. Built with the iOS 27 SDK for current devices.
1.2.14 Sep 21
We gave PhotoFlight a proper tidy-up. The memories stay; the little annoyances pack their bags.
• Your trip, your director’s cut. Make portrait videos from trips, countries or cities, choose up to 20 photos, edit the title and enjoy smoother transitions and better framing. Sharing and Done now know when to make their exit.
• The automatic photo picker gets to know the assignment: more Favorites, selfies and people, fewer repeated burst shots, and your journey in order. Your manual choices stay yours.
• Six new house, pop and cinematic soundtracks replace the old playlist. No farewell tour. Included music can be used in shared videos for free, with no required music credits; your own music and No music are still options.
• Favorites stop playing hard to get. Added photos and videos appear properly, the heart can remove them again, and video location and sharing controls behave. PhotoFlight no longer offers photo deletion in the viewer—your originals stay put.
• Trips get their story straight. Better multi-stop grouping, photo locations and departure estimates; you can group journeys and name them yourself. Edits and deletions survive rescans, and exact home move dates help keep home life out of the holiday album.
• Meet Scan Report: a clearer look at what was found, what has no location and what limited Photos access leaves out. Untagged is more useful too, with fewer screenshots and already-sorted photos cluttering the list.
• Big photo libraries get more breathing room. Browsing is smoother, interrupted scans recover better, and the app is less eager to scan the same thing twice. Album maps, calendar updates and widgets stay better in step.
• Safer saves and upgrades protect your travel history. If a save fails, your edits stick around for another try. If the app cannot open its data, it offers recovery instead of an unceremonious exit.
• Travel-memory reminders bring past trips back for a visit, without putting destination names in the notification preview. They stay spaced apart, respect iOS permissions and open the memory without a Pro roadblock. Sound and banners no longer have to be a package deal.
• Small screens, iPad layouts, photo buttons and onboarding get a polish. The world map also stops having an identity crisis between light and dark mode.
• Pro purchases and restoration, optional flight details and permission changes get reliability fixes and clearer messages. Rating requests wait for a successful moment, rather than joining the welcome committee.
Available in all eight supported languages. Happy travels—and happy looking back.
1.2.13 Sep 6
• Full and partial scans now catch new, changed and shared-library photos in one pass. Repeatedly tapping Scan should no longer be part of the travel itinerary.
• Turn your travel map into a free animated 9:16 video for Reels, Shorts and TikTok. No Pro ticket required.
• Choose from four original, share-safe PhotoFlight sounds or add music you have permission to use. Every video includes a subtle PhotoFlight watermark and install QR code.
1.2.12 Aug 28
• Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Hindi multi-day trip titles could mix up a day count and a place name. Foundation took that personally, and the app could crash.
• Photo Heatmap could also try to show the whole planet — plus a little extra — after an airline scan. MapKit objected. It now stays safely on the map.
• Added regression tests for both, because passports and maps should be slightly less adventurous than their owners.
1.2.11 Aug 18
• In Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Hindi, some multi-day trip titles mixed up a number and a place name. Foundation took that personally and the app could crash.
• Titles now keep their days and destinations in their own lanes, so travel albums stay reliably upright.
• Added a test that makes every language prove it knows which argument is which.
1.2.10 Aug 17
• No shiny new features this time. This is a housekeeping release — brooms, screwdrivers, the works.
• Everything under the hood got a once-over so future updates land smoothly.
• If you notice absolutely nothing different, that's a ten out of ten from us.
1.2.9 Jul 10
What's new in 1.2.8
• The home-screen widget now actually exists. We'd listed it as a Pro feature with the quiet confidence of people who hadn't finished building it. It ships. Put it on your home screen. We checked twice.
• Move a photo's location and it now updates everywhere — instead of everywhere except the three screens you happened to be looking at.
• The history backfill used to mark itself "done" and then, with great dignity, not run. It now runs before taking the credit.
• Scans can no longer get stuck forever on "Processing." That spinner has been informed the party is over.
• Prices now show in your local currency instead of a hard-coded $9.99 that assumed the whole planet banks in dollars.
• Onboarding and the paywall no longer dead-end when you're offline. Airplane mode is a valid life choice and the app finally respects it.
1.2.8 Jul 7
A little polish and behind-the-scenes improvements.
1.2.7 Jul 3
• Travel Souvenirs: stick an NFC tag on a fridge magnet, postcard, or keepsake and one tap reopens that whole trip inside the app — the tag holds the memory, so it keeps working even if you archive the souvenir.
• Tag it for the web too: save a public photo album link to a tag and tapping it opens the album straight in your browser.
1.2.6 Jun 29
PhotoFlight 1.2.5 - a big bug hunt:
- The app crashed if you deleted a photo from the Untagged screen. That was bad. It doesn't anymore.
- "Processing new photos... 0%" could get stuck forever until you force-quit. It now notices it's wedged and quietly retries itself.
- In your passport, a country with lots of years used to chop the years in half ("201" then "3") and stack "Compare" one letter per line. Fixed - and now you can tap a year to see that year's photos.
- New: "I haven't been here." Flew OVER a country and the window photos made it look visited? Tell PhotoFlight - it stops counting that country, but a real visit later still counts.
- The Photo Heatmap is no longer a picture you can't touch. Tap it to open a full-screen map and pinch to zoom into exactly where you've been.
- Untagged got friendlier: correct a wrong guess ("Not Atlanta? Pick the correct place"), the selection tick is finally visible on bright photos, and you can press and drag to grab a whole batch at once.
- Globe and Trips now explain their pin colours with a little legend, and the Globe stats stopped spilling onto a second row on smaller phones.
Everything still stays on your device. No account, no cloud.
1.2.5 Jun 20
A small refresh for your travel log:
• Fixed a bug where one shy trip kept refusing to board. It's checked in now.
• General performance tune-up so your timeline scrolls a little smoother.
1.2.4 Jun 11
• The world map now fills in even if your iPhone speaks German. Or French, Japanese, Spanish, Hindi or Chinese. Countries were being filed under names our map didn't recognise. Fixed properly.
• Adding one new photo no longer quietly deletes your hand-made flights and corrected trip dates. We are very sorry. They now survive every rescan.
• AirDropped and imported photos finally count. So do photos you tag inside the app — and one photo with a confused camera clock can no longer freeze "Check for New Photos" forever.
• Cusco, La Paz and Lhasa are real places you visited, not "you were probably on a plane". High-altitude trips now count.
• Buying Pro now actually scans your full photo history right away, instead of making you find a hidden menu button.
1.2.3 Jun 10
For ages you've been able to share your travel map. Small problem: the picture you shared had no way of telling anyone which app made it. Friends admired your map, thought "nice," and got on with their lives. Tragic.
• Share cards now include a QR code and a link — so when you post your map, people can scan it, grab the app, and discover exactly how far behind you they are.
• Every share now brings a friendly "I've been to X countries — how many have you?" line, included purely to start arguments in the group chat.
• Same maps, passport and brag cards you already love — finally with a way back home.
As always, every pin and stat stays 100% on your device. The only thing we let escape is your bragging rights.
1.2.2 Jun 7
PhotoFlight now speaks seven languages. The whole app — your passport, your globe, every trip and every brag card — is now available in English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Hindi, plus a new in-app Language setting for when your phone's idea of your language and your own idea of it disagree. Your photos still never leave your device. They just get described in a few more languages now.
1.2.1 Jun 6
For months this app has only ever shown you where you've already been. We decided that was a bit backward-looking, so now you can also map where you're going.
• NEW — Travel Plans: drop the countries you're dreaming about onto your world map. They show up in their own "someday" shade, right next to the places you've actually set foot in.
• A bucket-list ring that gently keeps score: "X% complete." No pressure. (There is a little pressure.)
• "Up next" picks your next adventure for you, so the only thing left to do is the small matter of actually booking it.
• New brag cards for the group chat: countries, continents (all 7 unlocks a Grand Slam), and precisely how far you've flown toward the Moon. Further than you'd guess; not as far as you'd hoped.
• As always, every pin, plan and stat stays 100% on your device. Your wanderlist is nobody's business but yours.
Tap a country, share the map, make your friends quietly jealous. That's the whole feature.
1.2.0 May 27
What's new in 1.1.2
• Your Passport said you'd been to 14 countries. The World Map insisted it was 11. Both were very confident. We sat them down, talked it through, and now every screen agrees on the same number.
• Countries you'd actually visited sometimes only showed up after you ran a scan two or three times — the app was being needlessly shy about looking up place names. One scan now fills in the whole map.
• Bonus: your stats are correct the moment a scan finishes, instead of "in a minute, probably."
1.1.2 May 25
What's new in 1.1.1
• Search-listing tidy: the keyword field was paying rent on "travel map," "passport," and "world map" — all three already in the subtitle, where the App Store indexer was happily ignoring them as duplicates. We swapped that wasted space for the long-tail phrases people actually type ("countries visited," "places been," "where ive been"). No change inside the app.
1.1.1 May 12
A meaningful update. Mostly fewer hangs, fewer Norways than you signed up for.
- Globe spin no longer makes your phone feel like it's filing taxes. Continents → countries → cities, all pre-computed and on a real native map under the hood.
- The world map now stops at countries you actually visited. Svalbard, French Guiana, Greenland, the Falklands, the Canary Islands, the Azores and Madeira no longer light up just because you went to mainland Norway, France, Denmark, the UK, Spain or Portugal.
- Hong Kong and Macao stay as one marker each. No more zooming in and getting "The Peak" and "Cotai" as separate places. Sorry to The Peak.
- Türkiye is now recognised as Turkey. Apple renamed the country in 2022, we caught up in 2026. Better late than never.
- Passport mini-map respects your dark theme instead of beaming retina-burning paper at you.
- Passport: the World Map tile moved above the Flights/Countries cards so you actually see it before scrolling.
- Settings (the little gear) is now on every tab, in case you wanted to change your home location from the Albums tab for some reason.
- Settings now shows the actual app icon you picked instead of a generic blue square doing its best.
- Country drill-in finally finds your older photos in countries you've been back to. Apologies again to your 2018 ski trip; it has been located.
1.1.0 May 11
What's new in 1.0.10
• Flight-number lookups now percent-encode like adults. No more silent failures when an airline picks a code with a query character in it.
• The on-disk Info.plist used to claim the app was "1.0.3" forever. The binary was at the correct version (build settings overrode it), but the file finally agrees with reality.
1.0.10 May 10
Double-checked the world map. We did find one country we'd misplaced — apologies, Liechtenstein.
Timeline a little snappier. Globe spins as smugly as ever.
1.0.9 May 8
Photo scanning now remembers where it left off, like a responsible adult with a clipboard. Fixed delta sync starting from the beginning and squashed a crash during trip rebuilding.
1.0.8 Apr 30
