Tens of thousands of photos on a drive. Photo Flashbacks surfaces what you shot on this date in years past — automatic, local, no account. One-time purchase.
Tens of thousands of photos on a drive. You look at maybe a few hundred of them from past years - or none at all - current photos keeping you busy. Photo Flashbacks is how you see the rest.
Point it at your photo folders. It quietly reads the EXIF dates and builds a local index — nothing is moved, modified, or uploaded. Open it tomorrow and see what you shot on this same date last year, five years ago, twenty years ago. A grid grouped by year, newest first. Click for full screen, arrow keys to jump across years.
ON THIS DAY
Photos from today's date, every year you've shot. Navigate by day or week with arrow keys and modifiers. Cmd+T jumps back to today. Your personal photos time machine, one keystroke away.
SURPRISE ME
One random photo, full window, black background. Spacebar for the next. A metadata overlay shows filename, date, and camera, then fades. Just you and a forgotten image.
NO CATALOG, NO IMPORT, NO LOCK-IN
Your photos stay where they are. Quit and relaunch — the index loads instantly. Smart incremental updates catch new files by checking only what's changed. Tested on archives with 50,000+ images.
BUILT FOR REAL ARCHIVES
- 13 formats supported: RAW (NEF, CR2, CR3, ARW, RAF, ORF, DNG), JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, PNG and more

QUIET, FAST, AND YOURS
No subscription, no cloud, no account, no tracking. One-time purchase, yours forever. Photo Flashbacks does one thing — surface the photos you've forgotten — and gets out of your way.
Ratings & Reviews
This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
In 1.2.1 photos now land on the day the camera recorded, full stop — no longer nudged by the time zone your Mac happens to be set to. If you travel with the laptop, your archive stops shifting under you.
FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS
- Improvements made to "Surprise Me".
- Minimum Width is now Minimum Size, and measures the long edge — so a portrait shot no longer gets filtered out while the landscape frame beside it, from the same camera, passes.
- Launches are quicker now, too.
One-time note: this update re-reads your library once, to fix a bug in how it recorded file timestamps. Expect one slower start, then it settles.
