Fixed: • Verso could quit unexpectedly as a window closed or as you quit the app.

New: • Special Characters: Edit > Special Characters… (also in the Insert menu) opens a small palette of punctuation, spaces, maths, currency, arrows, Greek and accented letters. Click one to type it. Make your own sets, give characters your own names, and switch between a grid and a list. Recently Used keeps the last 24. • The Text Colour and Highlight buttons open their colours with a click or a right-click, with the colour you last used at the top. • Insert > Table… asks how many columns and rows. • Tables: Add Row Above and Add Column Left, and Select Table and Delete Table, in Format > Table and the right-click menu. Table styles are in the Format menu too. • Insert > Column Break, saved and opened in Word, OpenDocument and RTF files. • Review > Resolve Comment, and Resolve and Remove Comment in the right-click menu on a comment. • Replace Image… swaps a picture and keeps its place, width and wrap. Fixed: • The cursor and selection stay on screen when you move with the keyboard: Page Up and Down, Shift with arrows, held arrows and Return, Tab in long tables, Undo, Find and Next Change, and at high zoom.

New: • Settings > Writing > Paste matches the document's style: Command-V pastes text in the style around it. Shift-Command-V still keeps the original formatting. Fixed: • Formatting scattered words (a multiple selection) no longer jumps the view to the first of them, and all the words stay selected. • The arrow keys bring the cursor into view when it moves past the bottom or top of the window. • Text pasted from Notes and other apps is readable on a dark page. • An opening quotation mark (”sana” in Finnish and Swedish, »sana») no longer sits alone at the end of a line.

New: • Select All Matches, in the search options and Edit > Find, selects every match at once, so one Bold, colour or style changes them all. • Find and replace paragraph breaks, line breaks and tabs: choose them from Special Characters in the search options, or type ^p, ^l and ^t. Find ^p^p and replace with ^p to remove empty lines. • Pictures in RTF files: they save inside the file and open from RTF files made in Word, Bean and other apps. Fixed: • Find Next and Find Previous select the match, so you can change it straight away. • A style applies to every part of a multiple selection, not just the first. • No horizontal scroll bar when the page fits the window and scroll bars are set to always show. • Dark text on a transparent background is readable on a dark page.

Ideas borrowed from Pages, and the fixes you asked for. From Pages: • The zoom menu in the status bar now offers One Page and Two Pages, sizes from 25% to 400%, and Fit Width and Fit Page, which keep fitting as you resize the window. • Insert menu in Pages' order, with Line Break, Page Number, Page Count, Date & Time, Endnote, Bookmark and a Link menu for web pages, email addresses and bookmarks. Page numbers now work in the body of the page, not only in headers and footers. • Insert > Equation, also in the toolbar's + menu: type or paste LaTeX or MathML and see it as you type. Double-click an equation to change it. Equations save to Word as real Word equations. New: • Fold headings: point at a heading and click the arrow to hide everything under it. Folding never changes the document, and printing shows everything. • Customise numbered lists: number styles, text before and after the number ("Chapter 1"), start number and more, from Format > Lists > Customise List. • Footnote and endnote text and marks are now styles you can change in Manage Styles, with numbering options in the inspector. • Type units into the inspector: 12 pt, 1.5 cm, 0.5 in or 10 mm. • Guides can be solid instead of dotted, in a colour of your choice (Settings > Page Setup). • New documents open at 125% in a window sized for your screen. Fixed: • Clicking into a header or footer lets you type there again. • Typing in a new document no longer shows "Modified from style". • Focus mode uses your page colour instead of grey. • The Save panel starts on the format chosen in Settings. • Colours from a Word document's theme now show and survive saving. • Footnotes no longer gain a space each time a Word document is saved. • Word documents now name the Mac system font SF Pro, a name Word recognises, instead of a hidden internal name. • Every template now shows on the Welcome window, two rows of four. • Panels open and close faster.

Verso now looks and works like the rest of your Mac on macOS 26. A native window: • A redesigned toolbar with your formatting tools centred over the page, and an inspector that floats beside it with Format, Comments and Changes tabs. Citations opens in its own panel. • The font menu shows each font in its own typeface, and the style menu shows headings in bold. • Click a heading in the outline to go straight to it. • The one page / two pages switch is back in the status bar, beside the zoom. • Find and Replace is a floating panel under the toolbar, with your options in one menu and Replace a click away. The page moves down while it is open, so the first line is never hidden. • Dialogs, alerts and save panels slide down from the document window, and every panel opens and closes with motion that follows Reduce Motion. • Verso follows your Mac's accent colour, including the text cursor. • Focus mode keeps only the page in view, with the window controls dimmed until you point at them. • Settings are reorganised so every pane fits a laptop screen, and the Welcome window has been redesigned. • A new app icon, made for macOS 26 in light, dark, clear and tinted looks. Pages and layout: • Two pages side by side now pair page 1 with page 2, as Word and Preview show a document, and the status bar names the pair. • Headers and footers grow to fit their text and move the page body down, on screen and in print, instead of cutting lines off. They sit half an inch from the paper edge, as in Word, and their height setting is now a minimum. • Command-Up and Command-Down, and Command-Home and Command-End, scroll to the start or end of the document, also when selecting. • A document that opens two pages wide shows the top of its first pages. Templates: • Seven new templates: Blank, Letter, Report, Essay, Meeting Notes, Manuscript and CV. Each opens as a finished sample in your language, built from Verso's own styles, lists, tables, footnotes, contents and headers. Word documents: • A caption above a table, table cell padding and table border colours now survive saving and reopening. • Bullets keep their hanging indent, and a paragraph with no first-line indent keeps it under a style that has one. • Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Korean text reopens in a real font instead of Times New Roman. • Update Table of Contents on a reopened document finds headings by their style and keeps the dot leaders. Pages that appear when you need them: • Pressing Return at the bottom of a page now always starts the next page, also with paragraph spacing. • Word documents with tables of images no longer show dozens of blank pages. • Typing while a large document is still being laid out is no longer dropped.

Header and footer controls now keep their correct on or off state after a Word document is saved, closed and reopened. Explicitly disabled first-page and odd/even variants stay disabled, while empty structural footer paragraphs no longer switch the Footer control on or reserve blank footer space.

Internal links in Word documents now work in Verso. Clicking an entry in a linked table of contents navigates to the correct bookmarked heading in the document.

Existing Markdown files now use the chosen A4 or Letter default, including orientation and margins, when they do not contain page geometry of their own. Manuscript-length documents paginate, scroll and save more efficiently, and Word files that explicitly disable different odd and even headers no longer lose headers on alternating pages. New header and footer height controls prevent multi-line content from being clipped. DOCX round trips also preserve zero-height and borderless shapes, explicit white text, section page breaks and merged-heading table grids more faithfully. Large Markdown imports avoid unnecessary syntax work, and eligible long-time users are recognised more reliably after an update.

Verso 1.0.50 adds book-ready page setup with common trim sizes, custom page dimensions, mirrored margins, binding gutters, and section breaks that start on odd or even pages. Markdown documents gain native on-device rendering for more Mermaid diagram types, plus better tables, nested quotations, GitHub-style alerts, and code-block spacing. Word editing is safer: complex table and section formatting, equations, content controls, tracked fields, custom XML, embedded objects, imported content, legal numbering, and positional tabs are preserved through edited saves. Nature-style citations now keep full author details and match expected title casing and bibliography spacing. This update also fixes table-style saving and text wrapping around callouts.

Tables from Word keep their exact borders and cell shading when you edit and save, and a table you restyle in Verso saves the way it looks. There is a new Banded Columns table style, and Word tables banded by their table style open with their bands. Styles can be reordered in Manage Styles by dragging, or with Move Up and Move Down, and the order is saved with the document. Hebrew and Arabic paragraphs from Word open right to left, and Format > Paragraph Direction switches a paragraph either way. Track Changes uses Word's names: Track Changes and Stop Tracking for recording, Display for Review for what is shown, and the status bar says "Track Changes: On", also while you type and in Focus Mode. Word documents with Zotero citations keep their Zotero settings and citations after a save. Numbered lists show the same numbers as in Word. Also: a new document in Dark Mode has a white text cursor, the "default editor" question at launch no longer stops a document from laying out, and text wraps cleanly around callouts and text boxes.

OpenDocument files are far more faithful: lists, comments, tracked changes, text boxes, merged table cells, column widths and paragraph styles now survive an .odt save, and LibreOffice files keep their styles. Word documents keep picture effects and grouped drawings, and text boxes draw as boxes. Find and the word count now include text inside text boxes. On a wide display, pages sit side by side automatically when they fit, and a one-page document sits in the middle. Save As moves to Option-Shift-Command-S; Shift-Command-S is Duplicate, as in other Mac apps. Also: pasted text keeps its number style, and templates keep every header, footer and margin.

Quick style application and a redesigned Manage Styles sheet that shows each style’s font, size, colour, alignment, spacing and indents. It also improves document fidelity by preserving date and citation fields in DOCX footnotes and nested tables in ODT files, adds a custom author name for comments and tracked changes, and removes Inspector controls that could not yet be saved reliably.

Verso now keeps a document's page setup. Open an A4 file and it is A4, with the file's own margins, and a document with a landscape section in the middle keeps that section when you edit and save it. Word headings that take their colour from a style show that colour. Updating or removing a bibliography no longer swallows the text after it. Formatting in one document no longer reaches into another open one. Also fixed: tab stops can be added while text is selected, moving a tab keeps its leaders and options, and typing into a page you cannot see brings the line back

Styles are real now. Every document carries its own style sheet, and Update Style to Match changes the style itself rather than only the paragraphs you had selected, so the next paragraph you give that style gets the new definition too. Modify Style, in the Inspector, edits font, size, colour, spacing and indents directly. When a paragraph drifts from its style, Update and Revert appear beside its name. A Heading 1 now arrives in Word as Heading 1, at the size and font you set, instead of one level down in Calibri. Templates can be managed at last. Settings > Templates renames and deletes them, and your own templates appear on the Welcome screen. The ruler is easier to read: tab stops drawn in your accent colour, black tick numbers, and a tab position that speaks the same unit as the ruler. Markdown files open through the same parser Skein uses, come back byte for byte wherever you did not type, and export to real HTML. And Verso speaks all sixteen of its languages properly. Over a hundred strings were quietly showing in English and are now translated.

Your citations survive opening the file. A Word document with Zotero or EndNote citations, cross-references or a bibliography used to have every one of those markers deleted the moment Verso opened it, and the deletion was written back on the next save. Verso now keeps what Word displays. Headers and footers are complete too: a title-page letterhead and a book's left-hand running heads survive open, edit and save in both .docx and .rtf, and editing one of them changes that one instead of quietly replacing the running head on every other page. Scrolling no longer lays out the whole document on every frame, applying a style no longer flattens your indents, merging table cells keeps the text in them, and an image on a page you never scrolled to is no longer dropped on save.

- Formatting now counts as a change. Make text red and type nothing else, and Verso no longer misses it: the document saves. - Your licence has moved to Settings, and redeeming a code opens Apple's sheet inside Verso. - Two pages side by side on a wide window, automatically, without your zoom changing. Settings > Page layout returns to a single page. - A dark page no longer repaints your document. Word forms with shaded cells stay readable, and the page appearance is no longer written into your file. - Font, Variant, Colour and Highlight in the side panel are controls now, so you can change what you are reading. - Markdown import keeps text it used to lose, and Word's heading numbering opens numbered instead of flat. - Fixed a crash around table editing and undo.

Saving is fixed for formatting-only changes — making text red, bold or underlined without typing could leave the document marked Saved while nothing was written; those changes now always count. The cursor no longer flickers back to the start of the word while you type. The licence now lives in Settings, no longer offers to sell Verso to people who already own it, and codes redeem inside the app. And when the window is wide enough, two pages now sit side by side automatically, without changing your zoom.

Saving is fixed. If you opened a document, made changes and found that Save did nothing - no error, no prompt when closing, and only Save As would write your work - that is fixed, and I am sorry. Verso was not telling macOS the document had been edited. Opening an .html file and saving it no longer destroys it. Saving as Markdown warns you before it drops something the format cannot carry, and keeps a backup somewhere macOS will not clear away. New documents are created in the format you chose in Settings, instead of always Word. Printing and PDF export from a dark page appearance no longer produce blank pages. Text was being written in white on white paper. A new Two Pages view shows a spread side by side, the way the document will be printed, and fits it to the window. The app's own appearance - windows, toolbars and sidebars - can now be set to Light or Dark independently of your Mac, in Settings. The page has its own setting, as before, so you can work in a dark app on white paper.

Fixes for exporting, pagination and Word documents. - Exporting to PDF no longer produces blank pages. Text from a dark page appearance is now printed in ink you can see. - Exporting to HTML now exports your document rather than its footer. - Pressing Return at the bottom of a page starts the next page straight away, instead of leaving the cursor with nowhere to go. - Inserting a section break splits the page immediately, and deleting one puts the document back together. No more saving and reopening to see it. - Word documents keep the paragraph spacing, line height and default font they were written with. - Formatting several separate selections at once now works everywhere. Line spacing, indents, bullets and numbering apply to all of them, not just the first. - Font size can be typed or nudged directly in the Inspector. - Interface size has finer steps for scaling Verso's own controls. - Deleting a table row that holds an image no longer leaves the image toolbar behind.

If you bought Verso on the App Store before the licence check changed, the app recognises your purchase again. You should not have been locked out, and I'm sorry that you were. Documents survive the trip to Word and back far better: tables no longer grow a paragraph on every save, sections keep their orientation, columns and margins, numbered lists keep their numbering and indents, and styles inherit properly. Comments and their replies now survive too - a document containing a discussion used to open with one side of it already gone. The caret sits where it says it does on wrapped lines. The ruler works with the pointer: drag tab stops, drag them off to delete, snap indent markers to the paragraphs around them, and resize columns by dragging the divider. Spelling and Grammar, Substitutions and Transformations are in the Edit menu - so you can now set a document's spelling language.

All fixes. The theme: what you see in Verso is exactly what gets saved. Word documents with columns keep their columns. Citations, footnote formatting, and endnote references all survive saving now. Editing no longer shifts headings or page breaks onto the wrong paragraphs. Table of Contents and bibliography update correctly after reopening a document. Deleting a style keeps your bold and italics. Comments no longer eat the formatting underneath them. New: automatic update checks, with an off switch in Settings.

Fixed the App Store purchase check, which wasn't verifying anything. The trial and unlock work correctly now. Fixed the image delete menu staying on screen after deleting an image from its own menu. Fixed a table editing bug that could leave undo stuck partway through a change.

A Styles panel in the Inspector. See every style in your document, how many paragraphs use each one, and apply, rename or delete them. Each style is shown in its own typeface, so you can pick one without reading. Make a style from a paragraph you have already formatted, with New from this paragraph. Change the font across the whole document and all its styles at once. Your Word file's own styles now win over Verso's. Applying Heading 1 in a document that defines its own Heading 1 uses the document's, not a default. Focus mode now has a button in the toolbar, next to search. The free trial is now 14 days.

Drag the indent markers on the ruler. First line, left and right, with a guide line down the page and the measurement as you drag. Converting typed text into a list now strips the old bullets and tabs. Backspace deletes one tab at a time instead of all of them, and indenting no longer scrambles the item or discards your tab stops. The paragraph's list style is now shown in the Inspector alongside the other paragraph settings, and can be changed there. Update Style to Match now reaches every paragraph in that style. Fixed: a table at the end of a document could trap the cursor, with no way to click below it.
