Scan a use-by date with your camera and Food Expire AI keeps track. See what needs eating, get a reminder before it turns, and cook from what you already have.
Food Expire AI keeps track of when your food runs out, so less of it ends up in the bin.
Point your camera at a use-by date and it reads it. No typing, no barcodes to look up — just the date on the packet.
WHAT IT DOES
Scan a date with your camera
Hold your phone over the label and Food Expire AI reads the use-by date and adds the item.
See what needs eating
Your food, ordered by what turns first. Nothing buried in a list.
Get told before it goes off
A reminder on the day. Upgrade for a nudge three days and one day ahead.
Cook from what you have
Tell Food Expire AI what is in your fridge and it suggests meals built around the things that need using up — everyday British and American home cooking, not restaurant food.
Know what your food costs you
Photograph a receipt and Food Expire AI records what you spent. It then shows what you actually ate and what you threw away, in pounds.
Freeze it instead of binning it
Freeze an item and Food Expire AI works out the new use-by date. Defrost it and you get a safe window to use it in.
Say what you cannot eat
Record your allergies and any recipe containing one of them is flagged. Food Expire AI cannot tell you a meal is safe — only the packet can do that — but it will tell you what it can see.

HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS NOT
Food Expire AI is not a nutrition tracker. It does not count calories, protein or macros.
It is not a barcode scanner and does not look products up in a database. It reads the date printed on the packet.
It cannot tell you a food is safe to eat. A use-by date is a guide and so is a photograph of one. Use your own judgement, and check the packet.
ACCOUNTS AND YOUR DATA
Food Expire AI needs an account, so your food list is safe if you lose your phone or change handset.
Photos of labels and receipts are sent to Google Gemini to be read, then discarded. They are not kept. Your food data is stored on servers in the UK.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in your Apple ID settings.

I was constantly having food to go to waste and it was so frustrating because it’s so expensive. Now I log the food in my fridge in this app that has expiration dates and it’s been saving me money on food and it generates meals to make with the food that is expiring. It’s pretty incredible!
FreshDate is now Food Expire AI. Same app, same account, same food list — just a new name.
Also in this version: the privacy policy inside the app now matches the one on our website, and the store listing links to our Terms of Use.
