Sweet Phonics is a phonics app that teaches kids ages 3–8 to read in 15 minutes a day. Its 101-lesson curriculum takes children from their first letter sounds to reading 2nd-grade decodable stories by sounding words out, not guessing or memorizing.
Your child reads real words and their first little book by lesson 2. Each lesson is 12–15 minutes of short, game-like activities in a colorful 3D candy world. Kids slide sounds together, pop balloons to spell, sort, tap, and read real stories.
WHAT'S INSIDE

• Story Mode: 91 decodable stories. Your child reads out loud and the app listens word by word. A missed word gets a sound-by-sound breakdown, so your child decodes it instead of being told the answer.
• Spelling Mode: Fry's 1,000 high-frequency words, the ones kids need most for school, across 10 levels. Kids build each word from letter tiles, then spell it from memory.
• A placement test, so a child who already knows some phonics starts where they are
• Short explainer videos for tricky concepts
• Up to 3 child profiles on one subscription, each with its own progress
• A parent dashboard that shows what each child has mastered and what comes next

Sweet Phonics uses systematic synthetic phonics and structured literacy, grounded in the Orton-Gillingham approach and aligned with the science of reading. Every word in every lesson and story uses only sounds your child has already learned, so there are no picture clues to guess from. No guessing, and no false confidence.
Children connect letters to sounds, blend sounds into words, spell those words, and then read them in sentences and stories. Spelling is part of every lesson, because spelling a word strengthens a child's ability to read it.

This is a very fun, engaging, and adorable reading app. It uses phonics very similar to the leading reading and phonics apps, however, I like it more because it’s much more engaging for my 5 year old. She loves the candy themes, characters, and games.I’m crossing my fingers that this game continues to grow and gets some aesthetic updates: it would be better if the narration of the word sounds and in the general game was more consistent - less robotic in some games and more friendly and encouraging. I would also be happy to see better graphics. The ones that are there are so fun, but the game does glitch sometimes. Overall, it’s a very great experience for my child. She’s very engaged and is excited to do more. I love that she’s learning and having fun! 100% recommend to others.

Best reading app I’ve tried!

I tried several apps and they all seemed to be on entertaining and added a bunch of screen time without learning much. This one is much more focused - very similar in structure to the classic Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons book. My child’s school also requires them to memorize spelling sight words so the spelling mode also came in very handy!

I’ve tried several reading apps and this one is by far the most effective for my daughter. The curriculum is very thorough she is able to sound out more words with each lesson. Also the story mode is amazing for catching mistakes and reinforcing concepts. Highly recommend!
