HomeSnap - Smart Home Insights
Track Automation Changes
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
HomeSnap gives you a clear, private view of your HomeKit home: glance at it from a widget, get told the moment something needs attention, ask it questions, and see exactly what changed over time. Read-only. On-device. No accounts.
AT A GLANCE
Add HomeSnap widgets to your Home Screen, Lock Screen, and StandBy:
- Low Batteries: every device running low, most urgent first, with a threshold you set per widget.
- Unreachable Devices: anything offline, so you catch a dropped lock or camera fast.
- Recent Changes: the latest activity in your home.
- Device Status: choose one or more devices and see what they are doing right now. Larger sizes show more.
ALERTS
Get notified the first time a battery drops below your chosen level, or when a device goes offline. Both are optional, and both appear in your change history. A device's own low-battery warning always counts. Batteries section listing every battery device and its level, most urgent first.
SIRI, SHORTCUTS & CONTROLS
Say "Take a HomeSnap snapshot," add a one-tap button to Control Center or your Lock Screen, or build a daily automation so a fresh capture is guaranteed.
SNAPSHOTS & CHANGES
HomeSnap snapshots your entire HomeKit setup once a day (or whenever you want) and compares each capture to the last. You will know exactly when an accessory was added, removed, renamed, or moved; when a room, automation, or scene changed; when a device went offline. Every difference is color-coded, grouped by date, and searchable. You can easily now restore any devices that were removed.
LIVE STATUS & EVENT LOG
See what each device is doing right now across the app. Turn on the Event Log to capture a live stream of activity: lights, locks, doors, sensors, button presses. Lite mode keeps the signal; Full mode captures everything. Filter, search, and export. Always-On Mode turns an old iPhone or iPad on a charger into a continuous recorder.
PRIVATE WEB DASHBOARD
Flip on the Local Web Dashboard and open it from any device on your Wi-Fi: live tiles, an activity heatmap, charts, a streaming event feed, and per-room and per-device drill-ins. Served on your LAN only, with an optional password.
PRIVACY
HomeSnap is strictly read-only. It cannot toggle accessories, run scenes, or change any HomeKit configuration. Your home data stays on your device: no accounts, no cloud sync, no analytics, no tracking. Nothing about you or your home is ever transmitted off your device.
Built for anyone who runs a HomeKit home and wants to see, at a glance and over time, how it is doing.

Restore your scenes. HomeKit can quietly drop devices out of scenes. Open any snapshot from before it happened, tap Restore, check the actions you want back, and HomeSnap puts them into your scenes. Off until you turn on Allow Restore in Settings; HomeSnap still never controls a device or runs a scene.

Every device page now has Notes and Attachments. Jot down anything worth remembering, and attach photos or PDFs such as the box, the manual, or the device label. Add from your photo library or the Files app, tap for a full screen preview, and share or delete with a long press.
Notes and attachments are stored only on your device, never appear on the web dashboard or AI endpoint, and survive a device being re-paired with HomeKit.
New iCloud Backup in Settings under Export & Backup: dated, restorable copies of your setup codes, notes, and attachments, written to iCloud Drive about once a day when something changed. Each backup is a real folder you can see in the Files app, the newest ten are kept, and restoring merges without ever overwriting a note you edited more recently.
New Sync Battery Levels shortcut: one action that reads every battery, records it to battery history, and refreshes your widgets, made for a daily or hourly Personal Automation.
Offline alerts finally say what happened.

HomeSnap now fully supports multiple HomeKit homes. My Home shows one home at a time with a switcher in the title, just like the Home app, and your choice is remembered. The Timeline, Event Log, Insights, and Snapshots tabs follow the selected home and name it under their titles.

New Insights screen in My Home: an activity heatmap showing when your home is busy, events over time, your most active devices and rooms, each light's total on-time, and recent door and lock activity with how long things stayed open. Pick a 24 hour, 7 day, or 30 day window.
HomeSnap now estimates how long each battery will last (like 'about 3 weeks') from its recent history, shown in the Batteries list and on every device's page. Estimates only appear when there is enough data to give a reliable estimate.
New temperature alerts: set a low or high threshold and get told when any device crosses it, like a freeze warning for pipes. Temperature charts now show the low, average, and high for the range, and both battery and temperature history can be exported as CSV.
New Setup Codes vault in My Home: save your HomeKit and Matter setup codes so you can re-pair a device after a reset or on a new phone. Scan a code (beta) or type it in, link it to a device, and view it later as a scannable QR or a large, readable number with tap-to-copy. Your codes are stored in your own private iCloud, so they come back after you reinstall HomeSnap or set up a new device, they stay private to you, and the vault shows its sync status so you know they are safely backed up. It opens even before a home is set up, and codes export as a printable PDF or Markdown.
A new Health section points out possible issues to tidy up: empty scenes, automations that cannot run, and duplicate device, room, or scene names, with a badge showing the count. HomeSnap only reports them; you fix anything you want in the Apple Home app, and tapping any item jumps straight to it.
My Home is reorganized: rooms, accessories, automations, and scenes each open their own screen instead of expanding in place, and a new Utilities group collects Batteries, Temperatures, Health, Setup Codes, and Insights.
Compare any two snapshots to see exactly what changed between them, search the Snapshots list and your setup codes, and filter the Timeline by category.
New quiet hours: pick a window like 10 PM to 7 AM and HomeSnap holds its notifications while still recording everything in your history.
Search the in-app Features guide, with matches highlighted and quick next and previous jumps.

A new Temperatures section in My Home lists every device that reports a temperature, with its current reading. Each temperature device's detail page now charts its history over the last 30, 180, or 365 days.
Show temperatures in Fahrenheit or Celsius: pick your unit in Settings and it applies everywhere temperatures appear. HomeSnap defaults to Fahrenheit.
Delete snapshots you no longer want: swipe to remove a single snapshot in the Snapshots tab or from its detail, or clear them all with Delete All Snapshots in Settings.
New snapshot retention: choose how long to keep snapshots (Forever, which stays the default, or 1 year, 6 months, 3 months, or 1 month). Older snapshots are removed automatically, and the most recent one is always kept. Note: Deleting or aging out snapshots never touches your battery, temperature, or event history, which are stored separately.

A big release. HomeSnap is no longer just a snapshot-and-diff tool. It now captures live HomeKit activity and offers a private web dashboard you can pull up from any browser on your Wi-Fi.
LIVE EVENT LOG
- New "Event Log" tab. Subscribes to HomeKit characteristic notifications and captures every state change in real time.
- "Lite" mode (default) captures the events that matter: lights, locks, doors, sensors, button presses. Skips noisy ambient readings.
- "Full" mode captures every notify-able characteristic when you want the complete picture.
- Filter by room, category, or accessory. Search the log. Export to Markdown.
ALWAYS-ON MODE
- Dedicate an old iPhone or iPad to continuous HomeKit logging. Always-On Mode keeps the screen awake while the app is open.
- Pairs well with iOS Guided Access for a kiosk-style setup on a device plugged into power.
WEB DASHBOARD (LAN-ONLY)
- Turn on "Local Web Dashboard" in Settings and open the displayed address on any laptop or phone on the same Wi-Fi.
- Clean light dashboard with live KPI tiles, activity heatmap, time-series chart, top-accessory list, per-room breakdown, door and lock timeline, and a live event feed.
- Events stream over WebSocket. Sub-100ms latency from "lightbulb turned on" to "dashboard shows it."
- Optional password (HTTP Basic Auth). Discoverable via Bonjour at `http://homesnap.local:8080` with an IP-address fallback shown alongside.
- Downloadable JSON, Markdown summary, change history, and event log directly from the dashboard.
- Strictly read-only and local-network only. Nothing leaves your Wi-Fi.
PER-ACCESSORY DETAIL VIEW
- Tap any accessory in My Home (or anywhere on the dashboard) to see a single device's full story: which scenes include it, which automations target it or watch it, and its recent event history.
- Answers "where is this device used?" in one tap.
ROOM DETAIL
- Tap any room on the web dashboard to see accessories in that room, scenes and automations that touch them, plus recent activity. Rooms are now first-class navigation, not buried in a list.
SEARCH IN MY HOME
- New search field at the top of the My Home tab. Find any room, accessory, scene, or automation by name. The web dashboard's Home page gained the same search.
MORE EXPORTS
- Two new Markdown exports in Settings: Home Summary (human-readable rundown) and Change History (one chronological log of every detected change).
- The existing JSON export was enriched with full automation details: trigger events, recurrence, conditions, and inline action-set bodies.
CURRENT HOME IS NOW MY HOME
- The "Current Home" tab is now "My Home." Same content, friendlier name.
- Rooms and Accessories are alphabetically sorted (Finder-style).
- "Accessories by Type" section groups your devices by what they actually are: Light Bulbs, Outlets, Switches, Cameras, Sensors, Fans, and more. Each with a count.
- Bridged accessories (Hue, Lutron, Homebridge) are now grouped under their real device type instead of bunching into "Other."
- HomeKit Secure Video cameras and doorbell-cameras are correctly identified.
- Multi-function devices (garage door with a built-in light, ceiling fan with a light) are categorized by their primary function.
PRIVACY UNCHANGED
- Still read-only. Still on-device. The new Event Log and Web Dashboard transmit no HomeKit data off the device. The optional Notify by Pingie integration remains the only feature that contacts an external server, and only when you explicitly enable it.
6.05.16 May 14
Added a new export method that explains your scenes and automations.
6.05.04 May 5
The Current Home view is now much easier to navigate!
- Rooms and Accessories are sorted alphabetically.
- New "Accessories by Type" section groups your devices by what they are — Light Bulbs, Outlets, Switches, Cameras, Sensors, and more — each with a count.
- Bridged accessories (Hue, Lutron, Homebridge, etc.) are now grouped under their actual device type instead of all bunching into "Other".
- HomeKit Secure Video cameras and doorbell-cameras are now correctly identified.
- Multi-function devices like garage door openers with a built-in light or ceiling fans with a light are categorized by their primary function rather than the incidental light.
6.04.29 Apr 29
