Keyword Scout: ASO Research
Keyword Finder & Rank Tracker
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Find the right keywords before you waste months on the wrong ones.
Keyword Scout gives indie developers and ASO professionals an instant read on keyword difficulty, market saturation, real search demand, and competitor positioning, so you make smarter decisions about your App Store listing from day one.
KEYWORD RESEARCH
Search any keyword and instantly see how hard it is to rank for, how saturated the market is, how much real demand it has, and which apps are winning. Every result comes with scored winnable alternatives: lower-competition, long-tail terms ranked by opportunity, each with an honest verdict (Worth a shot, Targetable, or Avoid) so you never chase a keyword you can't win. When Apple actually autocompletes a term, you'll see an "Apple-suggested" badge, a hard signal that real users are typing it, not an inflated guess.
SOFT TARGETS
The fastest way to find an opening: popular apps with unhappy users. Keyword Scout scans the top charts for apps that are clearly successful but poorly rated (proven demand, weak satisfaction) and ranks the openings you could realistically out-build. See the top complaints from their recent reviews, badges when an app is making money despite bad reviews, and a "rating falling" flag when an opening is widening. Then jump straight to the keywords that app ranks for and go take them.
ASO STUDIO
Paste in your title, subtitle, and keyword field and get a grade with a full breakdown of what's working and what to fix. Then generate an optimized version, a paste-ready 100-character keyword string built from your real competitor data, and compare versions for even more control.
COMPETITOR ANALYSIS
See exactly what users hate about competing apps. Keyword Scout analyzes hundreds of reviews across your top competitors and surfaces the most common friction points, coverage gaps, and unresolved complaints, the exact angles you can win on. Then open the rank matrix: your App Store rank vs. every competitor you watch, keyword by keyword, with your gaps flagged so you know precisely what to go after next.
MARKET PULSE
A daily market brief for your category. Track competitor updates, keyword saturation shifts, and apps rising and falling in the charts, so you always know what's moving before you react to it.
MARKET COMPARISON
The same keyword can be Easy in Mexico and Hard in the US. Compare difficulty and saturation across 175+ App Store markets to find where you have the best shot at ranking, before you invest in localization.
RANK TRACKING
Save your keywords and track how your position moves over time. Snapshots, trend lines, and rating history so you always know whether your ASO efforts are paying off, plus a push alert the moment a tracked keyword moves.
WIDGETS
Check your rank for different keywords right from your home screen.

3.4.1 Aug 26
Keyword Scout 3.4, made for your Mac.
MADE FOR MAC
On a Mac, Keyword Scout no longer feels like a stretched iPhone app. Full-size text, two-column layouts for Search, results, Pulse, and your app's Rankings and Competitors tabs, sidebar navigation, and full-size workspaces for App Report, Bulk Score, Competitor Intelligence, and the Autocomplete Explorer.
THE RANKINGS TABLE (MAC)
Your tracked keywords become a dense, sortable table: rank with trend arrows, a history sparkline, SAT, DIFF, DEMAND, and a RIVALS column showing how many watched competitors rank above or below you per keyword. Click a column header to sort, right-click a keyword to recheck or stop tracking.
YOU VS. YOUR COMPETITORS
The head-to-head rank grid is back on every device. Your tracked keywords as rows, you plus each watched competitor as columns, App Store ranks in the cells. Leads, losses, and gaps at a glance, with CSV export. Find it on the Rankings tab, right under your keyword list. (Pro)
KEYBOARD & POINTER
Cmd-1/2/3 switch tabs, Cmd-F jumps to search, Cmd-, opens Settings, Esc clears your query. Rows highlight under the pointer on Mac and iPad trackpads, and tab segments now respond across the whole pill.
SHARPER OPTIMIZER
The AI Optimizer now writes to the same rubric the Listing Grader scores against, so rewrites land higher on the first pass.
FIXES
- Keywords added from a Coverage Scan now record their first ranking snapshot immediately, so trends and "last checked" start from day one.
- Fixed a race that could show "The App Store is busy" when analyzing competitors.
3.4 Jul 31
Difficulty scored for your app
Keyword difficulty now reflects your app's stage. A keyword that's "medium" overall can be hard for a new app, and now the number says so. It even recognizes keywords you already rank for.
Autocomplete Explorer
A live, expandable tree of Apple's real App Store search suggestions. Seed a term, expand any branch, and mine deeper. It's data only an on-device app can reach.
Your rank, on your Lock Screen
New Lock Screen widgets (plus StandBy) show your best keyword rank and trend at a glance.
Your update, measured
Ship a listing change and Keyword Scout shows exactly which keywords it moved, with a notification when the impact is confirmed.
Also in 3.3: Keyword Field Builder, a cleaner Grade tab, shareable ranking cards (Pro), sharper market comparison, and far fewer "Apple is limiting requests" errors.

Bug fix and stability
3.2.1 Jul 25
Difficulty scored for your app
Keyword difficulty is now judged against where your app actually stands. A keyword that looks medium overall can be genuinely hard for a brand new app, and now the number says so. It also recognizes when you already rank #1.
New: Keyword Field Builder
A dedicated tool for the 100-character keyword field. It flags words already in your title or subtitle, drops plurals and filler, counts characters live, and packs the tightest field possible. One tap Smart Keywords fill the gaps.
A cleaner workspace
The Grade tab now does one thing well: grade and improve your listing. Tracking, keyword discovery, and performance moved to Rankings, grouped into clear sections. Less clutter, less scrolling.
Sharper market comparison
Market Comparison now shows how much less contested another market actually is, so you can tell at a glance whether it's worth expanding there.
Also in this release
- Coverage Scan is now front and center on the Rankings tab
- Fixed CSV and image exports that could open a blank screen
- Competitor review analysis is more reliable, with clearer results
- Various stability and accuracy improvements
3.2 Jul 18
- The apps you track now refresh automatically when you open Keyword Scout, no more deleting and re-adding to get the latest.
- Pulse is now split into two focused sections instead of one crowded feed.
- Related keyword suggestions are useful now, real opportunities instead of plain synonyms.
- General reorganization and bug fixes.
3.1.1 Jul 7

- Pulse is now split into two focused sections instead of one crowded feed.

3.1 Jul 3
Soft Targets: find the apps worth beating.
New in Pulse, a discovery feed of popular apps whose users are unhappy. Proven demand, weak satisfaction, and the exact openings you could build into. Browse any category to see the softest targets ranked by opportunity, tap any app to read the real complaints from its reviews grouped into the gaps you'd build around, then open the full breakdown of every keyword it ranks for.
Also new: the Rank Comparison matrix. Your App Store rank beside every competitor you watch, keyword by keyword. Green where you're ahead, red where they beat you, with your gaps flagged automatically and a "biggest gap" sort to put them first.
3.0 Jun 30
New: the Rank Comparison matrix. See your App Store rank side by side with every competitor you watch, for every keyword you track. Green where you're ahead, red where they beat you. The head-to-head view at a glance.
It also flags your gaps, keywords a competitor ranks for but you don't, with a running count, so you know exactly which terms to go after next. Sort by biggest gap to put them first, and tap any rank to open that keyword's full breakdown.
2.9 Jun 25
Get notified the moment your rankings move. Keyword Scout now checks your tracked keywords in the background and alerts you when one climbs or drops, so you know your metadata is working without opening the app. Turn it off anytime in Settings.
Also in this update:
- Watch any competitor you choose: add one by name or App Store link instead of waiting for auto-discovery.
- See exactly what competitors changed: tap any change to expand the before and after, including description rewrites.
- A calmer Grade tab: issues and quick wins are now tap-to-expand summaries instead of a wall of text.
- A sharper Optimizer that more reliably raises your grade.
2.8 Jun 17
Keyword Scout is faster across the board. Keyword research, app reports, ranking checks, and market research all come back quicker now, and the waits you used to hit when Apple rate-limited the app are essentially gone.
New: background ranking alerts. Keyword Scout now refreshes your tracked keyword rankings in the background and notifies you the moment one moves, up or down, so you know your metadata is working without opening the app to check. Turn it off anytime in Settings.
2.7.2 Jun 11
New
- Set Up My App. Add your app and Keyword Scout instantly researches your keywords and finds your competitors in the background. You open a ready-to-use dashboard, not a blank screen.
- Find My Competitors. See which apps actually compete for your keywords, and start watching any of them in one tap.
- Watch your rank move. Free users now get the last 7 days of ranking history, with sparklines and trend charts.
- Keyword suggestions on the Grade tab. Fresh title/subtitle and keyword-field ideas right where you optimize. Tap any one to check its rank and start tracking it.
Improved
- Pulse is now a clean once-a-day update that loads instantly, no waiting on a refresh. "Competitors Changed" follows the competitors you actually track.
- Faster and calmer all over. Markets load with clear progress, suggested keywords stay cached through the day, and messages stay reassuring when Apple briefly rate-limits.
Still pay-once. Still no subscription. Thanks for the reviews and feedback, keep it coming.

2.7 Jun 4
The Optimizer now grades its own suggestions before showing them. If we'd lower your score, we keep your metadata unchanged and tell you why. Plus your next grade is always free after a regression, so you can iterate without hitting a paywall.
Verdict bands recalibrated. Strong, Worth It, and Targetable are reachable now. Pulse adds a "best time to update" insight pulled from competitor release patterns. Difficulty 95-99 reads "Very Hard" and 100 reads "Locked" instead of catch-all "Hard."
Pacing is visible everywhere. When Apple rate-limits, you'll see it explicitly. Inline Edit straight from the Grader. Score history shows which field drove every change. Six more markets in Country Compare (China, Switzerland, Turkey, Argentina, Poland, Denmark).
2.6 Jun 1
- Bigger text & sharper contrast app-wide — finally readable on Mac and at desk distance.
- NEW Price Localizer (Pro): PPP-adjusted prices for 24+ App Store markets, auto-loaded for any tracked app.
- Free taste of Bulk Search — 1 run/day, up to 5 keywords.
- Recheck All — refresh every tracked keyword in one tap.
2.5 May 29
• Bigger text — Keyword Scout now honors your iOS Dynamic Type setting, with larger tap targets and proper VoiceOver labels too.
• Faster unlock — Settings goes straight to checkout, one fewer screen.
• Cleaner "What Moved" feed — duplicate and backward version cards filtered out.
• Fixed a Demand score bug on cached "Try these" suggestions.
2.4 May 27
The Listing Grader just got sharper. Keyword opportunities now split by tail length — Head (1-word, usually saturated), Mid-tail (2-word, the indie sweet spot), and Long-tail (3+ words, high leverage). Each gets an honest verdict instead of a blanket "saturated" label.
Also in 2.3:
• Lock individual grader fields — pin a title, subtitle, or keyword field and let the AI rebuild only the unlocked ones
• Hybrid keyword field — the optimizer can now include compound phrases when they add real exact-match value beyond what Apple auto-combines
• Honest verdict for tough markets — when every candidate is contested, the report says so instead of forcing a "pure upside" pick
• Calmer Grade tab — Compound Keywords and AI Keyword Suggestions moved to sheets, Competitor Intelligence section is collapsible
• Friction-free first day — new installs see no Pro upsell cards for their first 24 hours, and the daily free search limit is more generous
• "About the Grader" explainer sheet — plain-language walkthrough of what the grader does, what locks mean, and known limitations
• Crash fix in MyApp detail for users with many tracked apps
• Polish across the app — no more "Free" or generic adjective junk in AI suggestions, brand-name false positives removed from stealable detection, score grades clamp correctly when the AI gets overconfident
2.3 May 22
See who ranks where. The new Country Compare in App Report puts two markets side by side — same keyword, two flags, instant verdict.
Also in 2.2:
• Listing History — title/subtitle timeline + CSV export
• Track CSV — every keyword, every check, one file
• Price tracking in ASO Snapshot
• Swipe to remove items from Recent Analyses
• Pain Points now scans up to 250 reviews per app
• Faster re-opens — recent reports load from cache
2.2 May 19
What Moved — see the 14-day pre/post rank impact of every release on your tracked apps. Did your title change actually work? This finally tells you.
Competitor Changelog in Pulse — every metadata change across competitors you've analyzed, surfaced automatically. Tap any row to jump to that app's report.
App Report change detection — flags when an app you've analyzed has changed its title or subtitle since your last look.
Pain Points expand inline — the matching word highlights in each review quote so you can see why a complaint was tagged at a glance.
Free Competitor Intelligence — the keyword you spend your weekly scan on stays unlocked indefinitely. Only a different keyword counts against your weekly credit.
Try a sample report on Day 1 — the Competitors tab now includes a one-tap Duolingo analysis so you can see what Keyword Scout produces before tracking your own apps.
Plus: more rank history kept per keyword, cleaner telemetry naming, and small fixes throughout.
2.1 May 14
Keyword Scout 2.0 is built around a new Apps tab with a dedicated Competitors segment — analyze any App Store app for a shareable report in one tap, or share a link directly into Keyword Scout from Safari or the App Store.
Every report now includes Ranking Coverage (live App Store positions with stealable callouts), User Pain Points mined from real reviews with quotes, a Next Best Action verdict that tells you what to actually do, and a per-country market chip so you can re-run the whole analysis against any of 175+ App Store markets.
AI summaries got constrained to the actual data — no more generic "a new entrant could…" language, no more recommending saturated keywords. Search errors finally tell the truth (rate-limited, not "no connection"), the Pulse feed stopped contradicting itself ("worth targeting" no longer points at heating keywords), the coverage scan persists every keyword it tested so you can see exactly what was scored, and the listing optimizer now self-corrects against character limits instead of mid-word truncating.
Plus quieter wins: long-tail keyword suggestions instead of generic head terms, CSV export for App Report, a mobile-shareable text export for Bulk Search, and the Pro upsell card capped at 2 impressions per session.
2.0 May 9
-Verdict-first results -- Strong / Worth a shot / Niche / Avoid -- at the top of every keyword
-NICHE detection -- quiet, winnable keywords no longer get mislabeled as Saturated. A keyword with low competition and low search volume is a different problem than a crowded one -- and now we say so
-Stealable keywords in Coverage -- flag every keyword a competitor ranks for but hasn't claimed in their title (the ones a well-titled new entrant can take)
-Today's Brief on Pulse -- Summary of what moved in the App Store in the last 24 hours
-Free tier now includes 1 Concept App for validating ideas before you build
WHAT'S BETTER
-Bulk Search opens with a strong / niche / saturated breakdown + sticky COPY BEST and EXPORT CSV
-Quick Add brings competitor gaps from your last scan straight into Bulk Search as one-tap chips
-Methodology link on every analytical surface explains what's measured vs estimated
-Light mode polish + app icons load reliably across the app
-One-time purchase. No subscription. Pay once, own it.
1.9 May 4
Compound Keyword Analyzer
Apple's search engine combines words across your title, subtitle, and keyword field to index you for multi-word search terms — without you ever writing those phrases. This update surfaces which compounds you're already indexed for, scores each one by opportunity, and shows which single words you could add to unlock strong new compounds you're currently missing.
Other improvements in this update:
My App — Studio / Track tabs
The app detail view is now split into two focused tabs. Studio brings together your ASO workspace: keyword optimizer, compound analysis, competitor intelligence, and listing grader. Track stays focused on rankings and monitoring data.
Smarter keyword suggestions
The "Try These" suggestions on the search screen are now genre-aware. If you have a tracked app, suggestions pull from your category. The pool rotates daily and always replenishes as you tap through items.
Explore — better opportunity detection
The Opportunities section now surfaces more real candidates. The previous thresholds were too aggressive for most categories and produced empty results.
ASO Snapshot
Moved to the bottom of Studio tab and is now collapsible. Keeword remembers the collapsed state per app across sessions.
1.7 Apr 23
A big update focused on making the free experience more useful and brining even more value to Keyword Pro.
• Market comparison now covers 175+ countries — Pro users see the top 20 markets automatically with lowest and highest competition callouts
• Competitor Intelligence now shows real pain points before the paywall, with a full blurred preview of the coverage matrix and gap analysis so you know exactly what you're unlocking
• ASO Studio grading is now fully visible on free — score breakdown, field scores, and keyword table included
• First ASO optimize is free before locking
• Onboarding redesigned with a live animated demo and clearer free vs. Pro breakdown
• Country picker now has a search bar
• Paywall cleaned up — clearer layout, consistent icon colors throughout
