Your time has a price. Now you can watch it tick away or earn it back. See exactly what distraction costs you, live
Spent turns your screen time into a dollar amount live, as it happens.
You set your hourly rate. Spent watches which apps you're in. Every minute in a distraction app: social media, news, video, costs you money. You see that cost ticking up in a floating widget on your desktop and in the menubar, in real time.
But here's the twist: productive apps earn it back. Time in Xcode, Figma, Word, or any app you choose subtracts from your total. Work enough and you go positive.
What it does:
• Converts your screen time into a live dollar cost based on your hourly rate
• Tracks "distraction" apps that count against you (Safari, YouTube, Slack, etc.)
• Tracks "payback" apps that earn your cost back (Xcode, Figma, Word, etc.)
• Shows your net balance — Wasted, Earned, and Net — at a glance
• Floating desktop widget with three display modes: Tracker, Net, or Stats dashboard
• Menubar always shows your current net cost in color (+$X.XX or −$X.XX)
• Six color themes so the menubar is readable on any display
Widget Modes:
Tracker: shows the active app name, live session cost, and time elapsed
Net: a minimal pill showing your running net as +$X.XX or −$X.XX
Stats: a three-column dashboard: Wasted / Net / Earned, always visible
Your Privacy:
Spent never records your screen. It never reads what you type. It only checks which app is in focus — that's literally one piece of data. Everything stays on your Mac. No cloud, no account, no ads, no tracking.
Weekly Reports:
Every Monday morning Spent sends you a summary notification of last week's distraction cost and which app hurt you the most.
Launch at login:
Set it once and forget it. Spent runs quietly in the menubar, no Dock icon, and starts watching the moment you log in.

Cool, and needs some work

good concept with a few catches that make it not work for me - not every app is shown in the list I can select from - fusion360 for instance. since I spend a lot of paid time in that app it’s important it is tracked. There’s also a little bug in app switch that caused all my distracting apps to get listed under paid apps
Finally staying productive

I really like how it attaches a dollar sign to my distractions because seeing exactly how much money I am losing in real time makes it way easier to get back to work.
