Instant, seamless launch. The app now opens straight into a branded loading screen with no black flash on iPhone, and the map is ready to use faster than before. Rebuilt native startup so the launch screen matches the app exactly Smoother, more responsive time slider and zoom Dynamic top row: city, live temperature and clock now scale correctly on every iPhone size Side controls no longer overlap on smaller screens, and location can be toggled on and off reliably Search results are now fully readable and sit above the filter row Sun cone scales with zoom and shows the exact times the sun arrives and leaves Lighter, cleaner map style with clearer clusters when zoomed out Weather is always live: temperature in the clock, overlay optional Continued accuracy work across all cities: verified outdoor seating, opening hours, terrain and tree shade

Faster launch and smoother map. The app now preloads sun and venue data before the map appears, so panning, zooming and the time slider stay fluid. Over 1,000 verified venues each in New York, London, Paris and Los Angeles, plus a big expansion across Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, Amsterdam and Stockholm. More accurate sun. Shadow calculations now include terrain and tree canopy, so hillside and tree-lined spots are no longer marked sunnier than they are. Sun timelines match the map markers exactly. Local weather. Cloud cover is interpolated per neighbourhood, so a cloudy district and a sunny one are shown separately, and each venue tells you whether the sun is direct or filtered. Cleaner map at low zoom with grouped markers, a redesigned bottom bar, and a new app icon.

Thousands of new places and a sharper sun engine. Big city expansions: Copenhagen, Berlin, Stockholm and Gothenburg now cover hundreds of verified outdoor spots each, with new venues across Oslo, Paris and Amsterdam as well. Every new place is checked against real building data, so markers sit on the actual terrace and never in the water. Deeper, more realistic building shadows on the map, so you can see at a glance which side of the street is in sun. The map now opens slightly more zoomed out, giving you the full shadow pattern of the neighbourhood right away. Smoother time scrubbing: dragging the sun timeline is faster and no longer flickers sun-hour numbers. More local weather: cloud cover is interpolated per area, so one part of town can be cloudy while another is sunny. Refreshed interface with a dark frosted-glass look, cleaner filters and better spacing on small screens. Beer prices and happy hour info for Oslo, plus opening hours corrections across several cities. Many fixes: duplicate venues removed, selected places always stay on top, and improved performance on older devices.

Speed and smoothness Rebuilt the map engine: venues now group into clusters when you zoom out and render individually as you zoom in, cutting the number of live elements by up to 20x. Timeline scrubbing is dramatically faster. Sun hours update instantly instead of stuttering. Zoom and pan are smoother on older devices, including iPhone 12, with lighter animations and reused map markers. Cleaner interface Removed the side zoom slider. Pinch and double-tap now handle zoom, leaving more room for the map. Control buttons never overlap the venue card or timeline, at any screen size. Frosted glass surfaces with a warm tint throughout. Sun accuracy Continued Theory of Everything recalibration across Oslo, including Bjørvika, Sørenga, Aker Brygge and Grünerløkka. Local cloud shadows drift across the map with real wind data, so sun conditions differ between neighborhoods. Shadow forecasting is limited to 10 days, where weather data is reliable. Venues Corrected placement, opening hours and sun windows for hundreds of venues. Added Festningen, Barra, Vinkassen and more. Updated beer prices and happy hour details for Oslo.

This update is all about precision and a calmer map. Local weather: cloud shadows now follow the actual wind direction and update live as you drag the timeline. New frosted glass design across all controls. New zoom slider beside the map, and all controls now stay clear of the venue card on small screens. Stable map: every venue stays visible while you zoom, pan and select. Over 1,000 venues recalibrated against real building geometry. Oslo: 100+ new outdoor terraces plus updated prices and placements (Mano, Freddy Fuego, Blå, Vaaghals). Faster, smoother timeline scrubbing.

Performance and accuracy update. Smoother timeline scrubbing: sun direction and shade now follow your drag in real time, with lower load on older iPhones. Faster map when zoomed out: cloud shadows and lighting are calculated more efficiently without losing detail. More precise venue placement: hundreds of outdoor seating anchors re-verified against real building footprints and quaysides, so sun hours match what you actually get. Corrected sun profiles for venues that were shaded by nearby facades in error. Events now show only the coming seven days, with no outdated listings. Beer prices shown once, from a single verified source. The weather layer now always starts off, so the map opens clean and light. Improved layout on smaller screens: header, clock and date planner never overlap.

SunMap answers one simple question: where can I sit in the sun right now? Most weather apps tell you if the sun is up. SunMap tells you whether it actually reaches your table. Every outdoor seat in the app is placed on the real facade line, verified against official map data, and evaluated against the true 3D geometry of the buildings around it. Narrow alleys, tall corner blocks, courtyards, waterfront quays, rooftops and hillside terraces all behave differently, and the app models each of them individually. What makes SunMap different Real shadow math, not guesswork. The sun engine calculates the position of the sun for your exact latitude, date and minute, then traces it against surrounding building heights and orientations. A terrace on the north side of a street and one on the south side of the same street get completely different answers, exactly as in real life. Hyper-local clouds. Weather is not uniform across a city. It can be overcast in one neighbourhood and bright sunshine fifteen minutes away. SunMap samples the forecast across a fine local grid and draws cloud shadows that drift over the map with real wind data. When a cloud passes over a venue, that venue goes into shade in the app too. A timeline you can scrub. Drag through the day and watch shadows sweep across streets in real time. See when the sun arrives at a table, how long it stays, and when it disappears behind the building opposite. Each venue shows its full sun window for the day. Planning ahead. Pick any date within the next ten days and the whole map recalculates: sun angles for that date, forecast clouds and rain, and sun windows for every seat. Ideal for booking a birthday lunch, an after-work beer or a slow Sunday brunch with a realistic expectation of the light. Built for real cities. 27 cities, around 100 hand-checked outdoor venues each: Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim, Bodø, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, Nice, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Palma, Lisbon, Porto, Rome, Florence, Venice, Athens, Split, Dubrovnik, New York and Los Angeles. Only places with genuine outdoor seating are included. Practical details. Filter by category, show only venues that have sun right now, search across every city at once, and get recommendations for the sunniest spots nearest to you. Opening hours, websites and local tips are included, and for Oslo you also get beer prices and happy hour information. Recent improvements Substantially faster on older phones, with smoother timeline scrubbing, panning and zooming. More accurate localised cloud and rain rendering with softer, more natural shadow edges. Now available on Android with native icons and a full edge-to-edge layout. Interface language follows your phone settings rather than the selected city. Hundreds of venue positions re-verified against official map data. Find the light, then find a seat.

Performance is the focus of this release. Dragging the time slider, panning and zooming the map are now noticeably smoother, especially on older iPhones. Rebuilt the time-scrubbing engine: sun positions, shadows and venue status are precomputed in the background so results appear instantly while you drag Smarter device tiering: newer iPhones keep live shadows, markers and cloud rendering while scrubbing, while older devices switch to a lighter mode automatically Reduced rendering work during map gestures for faster pan and zoom More accurate local weather: cloud shadows now drift with real wind data and match conditions street by street, not just city-wide Venue sun status accounts for cloud cover, not only building shadows Refined map visuals with softer cloud edges and better readability in shaded areas New frosted glass interface across search, filters and the time slider Oslo venues updated with current beer prices and happy hour information Added Barra, Vinkassen and Little Wolf; St. Pauli Biergarten is now Rikkes Hage Expanded venue coverage to 100 verified spots per city with corrected positions and building orientations Numerous fixes for flickering values, misplaced markers and stale weather when switching cities
