WHY KAREN EXISTS
Yelp tells you if the food was good. Google tells you the place is open. Neither tells you whether the kitchen has a rodent infestation, was shut down last month, or has been written up four times for the same temperature violation.
Health departments publish that data. Karen reads it for you.

• 80–100: Looking Good
• 60–79: Sketchy
• 40–59: Yikes
• Below 40: Nope
The score blends recency, severity, repeat violations, and pest activity. Cleaner record = higher score. The methodology is transparent inside the app.
KAREN IS FREE
No ads. No paywall. No tracking pixels selling your lunch plans to a data broker. The app exists because public health records should actually be readable by the public.
KAREN IS HONEST
Every score links back to the source health department record. If you disagree with Karen, you can read the underlying inspection yourself and make your own call.
If Karen has saved you from a sketchy meal, the only marketing she has is your review. Leave one.
This little app has transformed the way I choose restaurants. It’s even more useful to me than Yelp. After being sick from foodborne illness more than a few times, I am mindful of where I eat. It’s great having an ally in the search for healthy and safe dining options. It’s great to have a resource that goes way beyond health department scores for a fuller picture of the situation.

Feels slow can’t find some places

I think this can be helpful sometimes. I don’t understand their scoring thing yet. But easy to understand the reports and why the way they grade them. Some places I looked didn’t come up and I think food trucks aren’t here. I hope they add them.
