Easiest calorie tracker I’ve ever used

As a former personal trainer and current strength and conditioning coach food logs and calorie tracking is not new to me. But making it simple and accessible is. This app is the easiest and most intuitive I have used ever. Works like it says easy tracking, builds a plan that helps you reach your goals really enjoying it so far.

This app is the easiest and most intuitive I have used ever. Works like it says easy tracking, builds a plan that helps you reach your goals really enjoying it so far.

Great Potential, but Still Feels Unfinished

I really want to like Gravl Macros, especially because I already like Gravl Workouts and would prefer to keep everything in one ecosystem. The adaptive expenditure and weekly check-in features are promising, but right now the app still feels noticeably less polished and complete than the competition.One of the biggest omissions on iPhone is the lack of Lock Screen widgets. There are Home Screen widgets, which are nice, but being able to quickly see calories, protein, and remaining macros directly from the Lock Screen would be far more useful throughout the day.There also desperately needs to be an Apple Watch app for Gravl Macros. Gravl Workouts already has a good Apple Watch experience, so it feels strange that the nutrition side of the same ecosystem is iPhone-only. I would love to be able to check my remaining calories/macros, log a weigh-in, or quickly add food from my wrist.My biggest issue, though, is barcode accuracy. I have scanned multiple foods where the calories or macros in Gravl do not match the nutrition label on the actual package. Even worse, the serving size in grams is frequently wrong. Gravl often seems to default barcode-scanned foods to 100 grams instead of using the actual serving size printed on the package, which makes no sense for a barcode scanner.For example, if a product’s actual serving is 28 g, 40 g, or one specific packaged serving, the app should identify that correctly rather than defaulting to 100 g and making me manually fix it. This creates unnecessary extra work and makes it much easier to accidentally log the wrong number of calories and macros.A barcode scanner is supposed to make logging faster and more accurate. If I have to compare every scan against the package, fix the serving size, and sometimes correct the nutrition information too, it defeats much of the purpose of having the feature.The nutrition-label scanner is a useful fallback, but I shouldn’t regularly need to scan the label or manually correct an item after the barcode already identified the product.Gravl Macros has a lot of potential, and I like the overall direction of the app, but I would really like to see:• Lock Screen widgets• A full Apple Watch app• Much better barcode/database accuracy• Correct serving sizes instead of defaulting everything to 100 g• Better verification of calories and macros against current product labels• Continued improvements to the overall polish and reliability of food loggingIf Gravl fixes these areas, I could easily see myself using the full Gravl bundle long term. Right now, though, the nutrition app still feels a generation behind the workout app.
