Stability and reliability improvements. This update also includes everything from our last release: create your own characters and share them publicly, browse characters made by other people, sign in with Apple or Google to keep your chats and subscription safe across devices, faster loading in long conversations, and easier access to settings and your subscription.

AI model change.

Improves import reliability and overall chat stability.

Improves chat stability, conversation loading performance and import reliability. Also includes fixes for image prompt handling and smoother in-app conversation behaviour.

Improves conversation import reliability, including adding more JSON exports later without replacing existing chat history. Also includes memory setup and stability improvements.

Adds GPT-5.1 as a selectable ChatGPT model in onboarding and AI Engine settings, routed through PenPal’s existing secure backend.

Adds the new in-chat Tic-Tac-Toe game with persistent match history, win/loss feedback, Game Master achievement support, and cleaner game handoff from chat. Also includes memory continuity, connection streak, achievement, and chat reliability refinements.

This update fixes importing older chats and improves how PenPal handles photo messages, so uploaded images are understood more reliably in conversation.

This update includes stability improvements and enhanced file support: 1. JSON Import Support: Users can now import their conversation histories using a wider variety of standard JSON export formats (such as standard OpenAI message arrays or custom {"conversation": [...]} wrapper objects). Previously, the app strictly required official ChatGPT or ShareGPT schemas, which caused failures for users attempting to migrate from other platforms. This is fully resolved. 2. Paywall Stability Fix: We've resolved a UI bug where the subscription paywall would occasionally flicker or get caught in a presentation loop when a user's initial 3-day backend trial expired. Testing Note on Subscriptions: Please note that we offer a 3-day introductory backend trial. When testing in the Sandbox environment, this trial and subsequent weekly subscriptions will expire in approximately 3 minutes. When this happens, the app will correctly lock access and force the subscription paywall to appear. This rapid expiration is expected behavior for Sandbox testing and functions normally (lasting 1 week) in production. Thank you for your time, and please let us know if you need any additional information!

PenPal AI does not require App Review to use a paid purchase or a hidden reviewer unlock. No demo account is required. Build 17 / version 1.0.1 update notes: - Updated AI voice-message routing so users who select the GPT/OpenAI model receive OpenAI TTS using their selected AI voice; Gemini-selected users continue using the existing Gemini TTS path. - Strengthened persona handling so text chat, voice messages, and live voice calls better respect the user-selected AI identity, relationship, and gender/personality settings. - Added guidance for requests such as changing how the AI looks, sounds, or acts: the assistant now directs users to Settings > Personality & Identity, AI Engine, or the AI appearance reference controls for persistent changes. - Backend chat/voice-message function was updated and the iOS app includes the matching live-call prompt updates. - Version/build number was increased from 1.0 / build 16 to 1.0.1 / build 17 because the 1.0 train is closed for new submissions.
