GroundPin: Utility Locator
Map services before you dig
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
GroundPin is the utility-mapping app built for the crew in the trench, not the office.
Drop a pin the moment you expose a service. Record the utility type, depth, condition and risk. Attach photos with annotations. Share it with the rest of the crew instantly so nobody hits the unknown later.
WHY TEAMS USE GROUNDPIN
Fewer cable strikes — Every exposed service is logged the second it’s seen, with photos and GPS coordinates accurate enough to relocate.
Honest records — No more lost paper notebooks or drawings that don’t match what’s actually in the ground. Your as-builts come straight out of the app, not out of someone’s memory.
Real collaboration — Site managers, engineers, surveyors and subcontractors all work from the same live pin map. Verify each other’s finds and flag what’s changed since the last visit.
Works where the job is — Download a site for offline use before you lose signal. All pins, photos and notes stay usable in a lay-by, in a trench, or forty metres up a pylon.
BUILT FOR UK UTILITIES WORK
UK NJUG colour-coded service categories out of the box (electric, water, gas, telecoms, fibre, sewage, and more).
HSG47-friendly photo categories (access, ground conditions, existing services, before/after, safety).
Risk levels (low / medium / high / critical) and condition tracking (good / damaged / abandoned).
Multi-site support for contractors running parallel jobs — keep Farringdon’s Crossrail works separate from your highway scheme in Cambridgeshire.

OS grid references and photo captions
• Every pin now shows an approximate Ordnance Survey grid reference next to its GPS position, and your Contractor Pack includes it. Positions come from the phone's GPS, so treat them as approximate, not survey-grade.
• Add, edit or clear a caption on any pin photo, including offline. Captions appear under the photo in your Contractor Pack.
• Contractor Packs now include every photo by default (up to four per pin) and say plainly if anything was left out.
• Pin sheets in the pack show your notes and who checked each pin on site.
• Small fixes and improvements.
