Support for Text & Config files have been added. Mandrill is a fast, native macOS app for reading and editing Markdown; beautifully. Whether you're scanning a README, reviewing notes, or writing your next post, Mandrill renders Markdown the way it's meant to look on a Mac. No accounts. No telemetry. No network calls. Your files never leave your device. A reader you'll actually enjoy using Mandrill turns plain .md files into clean, typographically polished pages. Headings, lists, blockquotes, fenced code blocks, tables, horizontal rules, inline code, bold, italic, and strikethrough — all rendered with care, in the theme you love. Open a folder, see everything inside Built for Vibe Coders and solopreneurs who work with lots of Markdown files. Open any folder and Mandrill shows all your .md files in a sidebar — browse, switch, and stay in flow without ever touching Finder. GitHub integration. Your notes, version-controlled Open a folder that's backed by a Git repository and Mandrill detects it automatically. Modified files are flagged in the sidebar so you always know what's changed. When you're ready, push all your changes to GitHub in a single action. No Terminal, no context switch. Your notes and your Git workflow finally live in the same place. Split-view editing Write on one side, read on the other. Mandrill's split view shows your raw Markdown alongside a live rendered preview, updating as you type. It's the fastest way to polish a document without constantly toggling modes. Multi-tab browsing Open as many Markdown files as you like in a single, tidy window. Switch between them with familiar macOS shortcuts, close individual tabs with ⌘W or the × button, and keep your desktop clutter-free. A real editor when you need one Toggle into edit mode and Mandrill becomes a live Markdown editor. Type, format, and watch your document render in real time with the theme applied. A formatting bar puts headings, bold, italic, lists, code, links, and tables one click away. Tables, done right Markdown tables now render properly in both reader and editor with correct alignment, theming, and zero fuss. Quick to open, quick to find Recent files appear right on the launch screen, so you can pick up where you left off in a single click. The same list is available from File ▸ Open Recent, with a Clear option whenever you'd like a fresh slate. Fast, even on huge files Markdown parsing and syntax highlighting run on a background thread, so the UI stays responsive on long documents that would lock up other readers. Native preferences Press ⌘, to open a real macOS preferences window. Switch themes and tweak behavior the way every Mac app should let you. Private by design Mandrill operates entirely offline. It has no network access, no analytics, no third-party SDKs, and no account system. The only thing it stores is your local preferences. Read the full privacy policy on our website. New Features - Text and config files (Mac, iPhone and iPad): open .txt, .yml, .yaml and .config files from the sidebar, the Open panel or by dragging them in. They open in a plain editor without markdown formatting. - YAML and .config files use a monospaced font with syntax colors. For a .config file, Mndrll reads the contents to tell whether it's YAML, XML, JSON or INI, and the colors update as you edit. - Tab inserts two spaces in YAML files, because YAML doesn't allow tabs. - File names show their extension everywhere, so notes.md and notes.txt are easy to tell apart. - GitHub repos show the .github folder, so you can edit workflow files. Improvements - Code blocks tagged yaml, xml or ini color their keys, tags and sections. - Lists have a little more room between the bullet or number and the text. - In Single Editor, the page no longer jumps when the cursor moves into or out of a blockquote or table. - Files that aren't UTF-8 text, or are over 10 MB, show a message explaining why they can't open. - Saving keeps a file's original line endings, so a Windows-style file doesn't show every line as changed in git. - Default commit messages include the file extension.
